  • Patent number: 6110592
Abstract: Method for the preparation of a polymeric mixture for cable insulators and coatings and sheaths for optic fiber cables; polymeric mixture thus produced and the cables containing it.The method is characterized in that one completely mixes, up to the obtainment of a homogeneous composition, (i) from 50 to 80 parts (w/w) of a first thermoplastic polymer which is amorphous, highly resistant to flames and combustion, and consists of an aromatic polyester of isophthalic and terephthalic acid with bisphenol A, and (ii) from 20 to 50 parts (w/w) of at least a second thermoplastic polymer consisting of an elastomeric polyether-ester block copolymer, having a Shore D hardness greater than 50 and a Vicat softening point greater than 170.degree. C., for a mixing time less than 10 minutes.

  • Patent number: 5972138
Abstract: The process of the invention to make miniaturized multipolar cables includes the steps of combining together a plurality of individually insulated conductors, inserting a filling in a pasty state and containing mineral fillers into the gaps existing between the conductors, partly hardening the filling and disposing the other cable components, in particular the sheath, around the conductors-filling assembly, and letting the filling become completely hard within the produced cable.

  • Patent number: 5910365
Abstract: A self-extinguishing cable releasing low quantities of toxic and corrosive smokes and gases for optical or electrical applications, comprises a self-extinguishing coating (3), releasing low quantities of toxic and corrosive fumes and gases, comprising:a) a polymer base including from 30 to 60 parts of a thermoplastic polyester and from 40 to 70 parts of a silicone-polyimide polymer;b) at least 0.5 parts of an anti-hydrolysis agent of the thermoplastic polyester and at least 0.25 parts of a selected antioxidant agent per each 100 parts by weight of the polymer base.Advantageously, the antioxidant agent is so selected that the coating (3) has a value of percent elongation at break not lower than 80% of the starting value and in any case not lower than 250%, after a 10-day aging at 175.degree. C. in a hot air oven.

  • Patent number: 5644105
Abstract: A cable, self-extinguishing and releasing low quantities of toxic and corrosive smokes and gases, for optical or electrical applications, comprises a coating (3) including an outer layer (5) consisting of a polymeric mixture including 50 to 80 parts (w/w) of an aromatic polyester of the isophthalic and terephthalic acids, with bisphenol A and 20 to 50 parts (w/w) of a polyether-polyester block elastomer copolymer having a Shore hardness D greater than 50 and a Vicat softening point higher than 170.degree. C., as well as a coaxial inner (4) layer comprising an polyester thermoplastic elastomer including a quantity of aromatic groups such that its Shore hardness D is equal to at least 45 and such that the delamination shear force necessary to separate said layers (4, 5) from one another is equal to at least 2,000 g. after ageing in oil ASTM Nr. 3 for 2 hours at 100.degree. C.

  • Patent number: 5437930
Abstract: In a cable in accordance with the invention, capable of working at operating temperatures of 150.degree. C., a conductor coating made of a mixture of a polyphenylsulfide and a silicone ether imide block copolymer is provided. The invention also refers to the mixture in itself and to a method of producing said cable.
