  • Publication number: 20040129100
Abstract: A transmission system including a shift mechanism for operating and controlling the transmission system. To automatically detect geometric characteristic values of the transmission system or of the shifting device a selector motor and a shift motor actuate a selector finger that is displaceably mounted in a selection-shift-passageway layout. Starting from an initial position whose coordinates within the selection-shift-passageway layout are unknown, the selector finger is displaced in the directions of shifting and in the directions of selection in order to detect paths of movement in the direction of selection or shifting. The selector finger is repeatedly displaced to establish the maximum paths of movement until the predetermined transmission geometric characteristic values are completely detected. Also disclosed are a control device for controlling a transmission system that includes a shift mechanism, and a method for controlling such a transmission system.

  • Publication number: 20040127329
Abstract: In a method and apparatus for diagnosing a malfunction in a clutch actuator of a motor vehicle, the actual position of the clutch actuator is measured by a position sensor. Simultaneously, an estimated position of the clutch actuator is calculated by an emulation unit that emulates the function of the clutch actuator. Malfunctions of the clutch-actuator are diagnosed by comparing the actual, measured position to the estimated position.

  • Publication number: 20040077457
Abstract: In a motor vehicle transmission, gears representing different transmission ratios are engaged by applying a force to an actuator output element that couples a selected gear to a rotary shaft. A synchronizing device blocks the coupling of the gear to the shaft until at least an approximate synchronization of rpm-rates has been achieved. A synchronization threshold position corresponding to the blocked condition of the actuator element is stored in a memory of a controller device. The controller device periodically performs an automatic adaptation of the stored value for the synchronization threshold position.

  • Patent number: 6722219
Abstract: A motor vehicle transmission is shiftable in a track pattern with a selector track and shift tracks. A shifter element moves along the tracks when the transmission is shifted from one gear ratio to another. The shifts are directed by a control device sending command signals to an actuator device which, in turn, applies an actuating force to the transmission. A main position-detecting device detects the position of the shifter element relative to the selector track and shift tracks, and a redundant position-detecting device performs an additional, redundant determination of the shifter-element position.

  • Publication number: 20040014564
Abstract: The comfort level of a gear shift in a motor vehicle with an automated gear-shifting transmission is determined by shift parameters which are dependent on driving parameters and on a shift program mode that is either driver-selected or automatically determined. The shift program mode is identified through a characteristic parameter which can vary in a range of parameter values corresponding to a range of shift program modes.

  • Patent number: 6676561
Abstract: A torque transfer system of a motor vehicle has a clutch, a transmission, a control device, and a traction load detecting device. The traction load is the variable resistance that a vehicle has to overcome to start or to keep moving, e.g., going uphill or downhill, with a heavy or light load, with or without a trailer or a roof load. The control device controls the torque transfer system, in particular the clutch, dependent on input signals received from the traction load detecting device.

  • Patent number: 6516255
Abstract: A method of operating a motor vehicle that is equipped with sensors to detect the rpm-rates of the driven wheels includes the steps of: a) determining current rpm-rates of one or more driven wheels; b) examining the current rpm-rates for potential errors; c) detecting whether a command for a gear shift has been initiated; and d) in case an error was found in step b), taking protective measures so that the engine cannot be forced to run at rpm-rates detrimental to the safe operation of the vehicle as a consequence of executing and completing the gear shift.

  • Patent number: 6510931
Abstract: A torque transfer system, particularly an automated shift transmission of a motor vehicle, has a movable shifter element that is subject to a position-dependent force. The gear positions of the transmission correspond to minima of potential energy of the position-dependent force, so that the movable element will have a tendency to fall into the nearest one of the shift positions. To perform a gear shift, the movable shifter element is moved into the vicinity of the targeted gear position by means of a control device directing a shift actuator. When the movable shifter element has stopped moving within a given tolerance band of the targeted position, the control device generates a stall-releasing signal, e.g., a series of pulses of alternating polarity to overcome a holding force or holding torque of the movable element, so that the latter will seek a position of minimum potential energy and thus move towards the targeted gear-shift position.
