  • Publication number: 20040129706
Abstract: A fuel cap has a torque member that is attached to a casing body in a freely rotatable manner. A tether mechanism is attached to the torque member and functions to link the fuel cap with a fuel lid. The tether mechanism includes a tether rotation support that is set on the torque member in a freely rotatable manner, and a connector member. The torque member is mainly composed of a resin material, for example, polyacetal, whereas the tether rotation support is mainly composed of a thermoplastic elastomer (TPEE). The resin material of the torque member has a liquid swelling property substantially equal to or less than that of the tether rotation support. This structure of the invention ensures the good operation ability of the fuel cap even in wet weather.

  • Patent number: 6745914
Abstract: A fuel cap 10 maintains high sealing even when subjected to external force; is easy to operate; and requires minimal space for accommodation. The cap device comprises a casing body 20 for closing the filler opening FNb in a sealed condition, a cover 40, a handle 45, a clutch mechanism 60 and a torque transmission mechanism 80. By upraising the handle to the handling position and applying rotational torque, rotational torque is transmitted to the casing body 20 via the clutch mechanism 60 and the torque transmission mechanism 80, closing the filler opening FNb. The handle 45 lowers back to the retracted position when released, whereupon the clutch mechanism 60 assumes non-transmission mode wherein the cover 40 and the handle 45 rotate freely if subjected to external force such as in a collision.

  • Publication number: 20040094200
Abstract: Disclosed is a valve being attached to a fuel tank, the valve permitting a vaporized fuel to flow out and inhibiting a liquid fuel from flowing out. The valve includes a cover and a case. For example, the cover is bonded to an upper portion of a fuel tank, is independent of the fuel tank, and includes a connecting surface to be connected to the fuel tank and a flow-out passage in which a vaporized fuel flows out. The connecting surface has a connector portion formed of a resin exhibiting a good bondability to the fuel tank. The case is screwed to the cover, and includes an evaporator opening and a floating valve. The evaporator opening communicates with the flow-out passage. The floating valve opens or closes the evaporator opening.

  • Patent number: 6705483
Abstract: A fuel tank fueling device for feeding fuel through the fuel passage of an inlet pipe into a tank main body is provided. The fueling device is easier to manipulate when the fuel cap is opened and closed, and also has better fuel tank sealing properties against the outside air. The fueling device includes a handle provided on a casing main body, operated to open and close the fuel passage; a sealing component interposed between the casing main body and the seat surface of the fuel inlet pipe; a spring disposed so as to urge the sealing component against the seat surface; and a cam mechanism whereby the operating force of the handle in the closing direction is converted via the spring into the sealing force of the sealing component pressing against the seat surface.

  • Patent number: 6681817
Abstract: The fueling device includes a casing main body with an inlet opening. The casing main body is mountable in the fuel passage of the fuel filler pipe. A cap main body for opening and closing the inlet opening is engageable with the casing main body. A shutter is disposed in the fuel passage on the fuel tank side and is urged closed by a biasing member. A seal ring is mounted on the shutter, which is seated on a seat surface of the casing main body so as to seal the interior of the fuel tank in an air-tight manner against the outside by compression of the seal ring between the shutter and the seat surface. Engagement catches that fasten the cap main body to the casing main body operate to connect the cap main body and the shutter in such a manner that rotational force of the cap main body is converted into force in the direction in which the seal component is pressed to the seat surface to compress the sealing ring therebetween.

  • Publication number: 20030173362
Abstract: A fuel cap 20 includes a casing 21, a handle 22 mounted on an upper portion of the casing 21 composed of a non-conductive resin material, and grounding mechanism composed of a conductive material. The grounding mechanism includes a contact member 31 that is attached to the handle 22 and is arranged at a position to be in contact with the handle 22 when the handle 22 is held with fingers, and a tether 34 that is linked with the contact member 31 and is used for connection with a fueling lid 12. When the user grasps an operating portion 23a of the handle 22, the user touches arches 31a,31a of the contact member 31 and the static electricity accumulated in the user is grounded through the tether 34. The fuel cap 20 of this simple structure does not require the high accuracy of dimensions to form the grounding means and attains the sufficient shock resistance.

  • Publication number: 20030102314
Abstract: A fuel cap (10) closes the fuel supply inlet (FNb) of a filler neck (FN) at a narrow operating angle (about 90°), improving the sealing properties of a gasket (GS). The fuel cap (10) has a cap engagement element (20a), which is brought into engagement with the opening engagement element (FNc) of the filler neck (FN), and seals the gap around the filler neck (FN) by means of the gasket (GS). The opening engagement element (FNc) is formed in an inclined state at a predetermined angle relative to the direction orthogonal to the axial direction for closing the cap. The cap engagement element (20a) has a guide surface (20b). This surface is aligned and brought into engagement with the opening engagement element (FNc) by the rotation of the fuel cap (10) in the closing direction while this element is inserted into the filler neck (FN).

  • Patent number: 6470911
Abstract: A check valve attached to an inner wall of a main body of a fuel tank ensures a sufficient seal of the main body from outside, without increasing the required number of parts. The check valve communicates with a fuel conduit of a fuel inlet pipe and functions to prevent liquid fuel and fuel vapor in the main body from flowing through the fuel inlet pipe and being released to the outside. The check valve is opened by a flow of fuel in the fuel inlet pipe and allows the flow of fuel to be introduced into the main body. The check valve includes a casing with a fuel outlet, a valve disc, and a fixation plate. The valve disc is movable between an open position and a closed position to open and close the fuel outlet of the casing. The fixation plate has one end inserted in an end of the casing and the other end welded to the main body. This arrangement enables the main body to be securely sealed from the outside.

  • Publication number: 20020139801
Abstract: A fuel cap is equipped with the torque mechanism 80. The torque mechanism 80 comprises the handle engagement element 46a formed on the cover 40; the torque plate 90, having the torque piece engagement element 94b; and a spring. When the cover 40 is rotated in the closing direction, the handle engagement element 46a disengages from torque piece engagement element 94b and the engagement gives the user a feeling of attachment by an audible click. At that time, elastic torque piece 94 elastically deforms so that the handle engagement vertical surface 46b is pushed in the radial direction by the engaging vertical surface 94d, a slot 94c. Conversely, when the cap is rotated in the opening direction, the engaging inclined surface 46c pushes the engaging inclined surface 94e and elastic torque piece 94 inclines with the support end 94a, and thus the cap transitions to a non-engaged state, and the cover 40 is returned to an initial position relative to the casing main body 20.

The fuel tank welding joint 10 a joint main body 20 and a barrier layer laminated on the surface of the joint main body 20. The joint main body 20 is formed of a first resin material weldable to the wall of the fuel tank FT, and the barrier layer 30 is formed of a second resin material that is adhesively and chemically reactive with the first resin material and that is more fuel-impermeable than the first resin material. An end portion 34 formed so as to be exposed to the outside at the end of a tube portion 24 is formed on the barrier layer 30. When the barrier layer 30 is injection molded on the surface of the joint main body 20, the end portion 34 is formed by the flow of the second resin material through the end of the tube portion 24 to increase the adhesive strength of the end face where the parts are joined.
