  • Publication number: 20140072071
Abstract: A method and system for supporting MIMO technologies which can require the transport of multiple spatial streams on a traditional Distributed Antenna System (DAS). According to the invention, at one end of the DAS, each spatial stream is shifted in frequency to a pre-assigned band (such as a band at a frequency lower than the native frequency) that does not overlap the band assigned to other spatial streams (or the band of any other services being carried by the DAS). Each of the spatial streams can be combined and transmitted as a combined signal over a common coaxial cable. At the other “end” of the DAS, the different streams are shifted back to their original (overlapping) frequencies but retain their individual “identities” by being radiated through physically separate antenna elements.

  • Publication number: 20130329825
Abstract: Distributed antenna systems and more particularly to methods and systems for improving uplink communications are disclosed. In one embodiment, Aggregation Point Noise Blocking provides for blocking or filtering of the noise contributed by one or more of the branches coupled to an aggregation point that are not carrying the signal from a particular terminal. Signal activity from a given terminal on a particular branch can be identified and that information can be used to selectively block or filter the signal noise contributed by the other branches to an aggregation point. The selective blocking or filtering can also include an attenuation function to attenuate the signal and provide dynamic range smoothing.

  • Patent number: 8594133
Abstract: A high frequency signal is down-converted into an intermediate frequency signal, transmitted over a limited bandwidth medium from a master unit to a remote unit and up-converted back into its original high frequency at the remote unit. The up-conversion is aided by reconstruction of a reference signal embedded at the master unit as a carrier for a management signal which is transmitted to the remote unit through the same limited bandwidth medium together with the intermediate frequency signal. The reference signal is reconstructed using a phase locked loop which includes a charge pump and is kept stable during intervals between bits and messages by a charge pump shutter.

  • Publication number: 20130295980
Abstract: Determining noise levels in frequency band(s) for communications paths in distributed antenna systems. Noise may be induced in communications paths in distributed antenna system as a result of electromagnetic interference from communications media located in close proximity and/or from other electronic devices. Noise induced on communications media may not be evenly distributed across the frequency spectrum, but instead concentrated in certain portions of the frequency spectrum. The frequency band(s) of communication signals distributed in the distributed antenna systems may be adjusted to be provided outside of frequency band(s) having unacceptable noise levels. In this manner, the communications performance (e.g., the signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio) of communications signals communicated in the distributed antenna systems may be improved.

  • Publication number: 20120281622
Abstract: A system for supporting multiple time division duplexed (TDD) based wireless services or frequency division duplexed (FDD) wireless services on a Distributed Antenna System (DAS). TDD based services use a common clock signal to synchronize the components of the DAS for transmission and reception of TDD signals. The DAS includes a GPS receiver which extracts a timing signal from a GPS signal and distribute the timing signal to components of the DAS to enable synchronization of the components for transmitting and receiving TDD signals. The GPS receiver can be part of the interface that connects a TDD based service to the DAS. The DAS distributes a reference clock signal to the DAS components to maintain zero frequency shift while manipulating with the carrier frequencies of the various wireless services carried by the DAS.

  • Patent number: 8121646
Abstract: The invention is directed to a method and system for equalizing the signal losses over cable runs in a Distributed Antenna System (DAS). In a DAS, two or more antennae are connected to the system by cable runs that can vary widely in length. As a result, the signal loss over a given cable run can also vary widely which can impact the design and deployment of the DAS and reduce antenna spacing. In addition, for a broadband DAS that supports many frequency bands or ranges using a common antenna unit, the signal losses vary with respect to frequency further making it difficult to equalize the cable losses. According to one embodiment of the invention, the method and system provide for measuring and adjusting the signal losses of each cable run to be a predefined value.

  • Publication number: 20110130163
Abstract: The invention is directed to a method and system for supporting wireless RF services over a wired digital data network infrastructure, such as an Ethernet network. The system includes a control unit that can be connected to a base station that supports one or more wireless RF services. The control unit converts the wireless RF signals to an intermediate frequency (IF) that does not interfere with the data network signals and combines the IF signals onto the cable run to a remote network device on the digital data network. The remote network device includes a multiplexer or a low pass filter and a high pass filter that separates the IF signals from the digital data signals on the downlink and combines the IF signals with digital data signals on the uplink over the cable run. The IF signals can be input to an RF module connected to the remote network device which converts the IF signals back to the original RF signals for transmission by a transceiver to wireless devices.

  • Patent number: 7840190
Abstract: A system and method for ensuring proper synchronization of a plurality of frequency sources used in reception diversity-based radio reception. The frequency sources are concatenated in a synchronization loop, through which one frequency source having a high performance oscillator is configured as a master source. Through its oscillator, the master provides an internal synchronization signal that synchronizes all other sources, which have lower performance oscillators and are configured as slaves. Upon a failure in the master oscillator or in the synchronization loop, a slave source takes over as an alternative master source and provides its internal oscillator signal as an alternative synchronization signal to all other frequency sources.
