  • Patent number: 8509146
Abstract: A communication system (100) is provided that comprises a Radio Access Network (110) having a Radio Network Controller (RNC) (114) coupled to each of a cellular Node B (112) and a Digital Broadcasting Video-Handhelds (DVB-H) Node B (120). When the communication system delivers low rate Multimedia Broadcast/Multicast Service (MBMS) user information, the user information is conveyed via the cellular Node B and a low data rate channel. When the communication system delivers high rate MBMS user information, the user information is conveyed via the DVB-H Node B and a high data rate channel. Thus the communication system provides high rate MBMS data services without imposing the system capacity constraints resulting from the employment of HSDPA by a cellular Node B.

  • Patent number: 8467800
Abstract: Parameters for the propagation channels between each mobile terminal (14, 14A, 14B) and several fixed transceivers (13) are measured and a report message transmitted to a radio network controller (12), indicating at least one part of the measured parameters. The radio network controller processes the report messages. The parameters measured for each fixed transceiver are a propagation profile, including at least one propagation path associated with a reception energy and the parameters given in the report messages for at least one transceiver, comprise data on the energetic distribution in the propagation profile, taken into account by the radio network controller in processing.

  • Publication number: 20120140779
Abstract: A method equalizing sizes of data packets by blocks of a multimedia stream including a succession of data packets of variable sizes. The method includes: storing a group of N (a predefined integer) data packets in a buffer memory; computing average size Tm of a packet from the different sizes of the N packets; generating a base stream including N data packets to be transmitted, wherein each has a size equal either to the rounded-down integer part [Tm], or to the rounded-up integer part [Tm] of the average size, and at least one additional stream including N redundant data packets computed from the base stream packets, having same size as the base stream packets, and intended to enable a receiver to restore any lost packets if the loss rate is greater than a predefined threshold; and transmitting the base stream and the additional stream(s) to the receivers.

  • Patent number: 7773513
Abstract: A heterogeneous communication system comprises a plurality of heterogeneous access networks and a core network connecting the heterogeneous access networks. An admission server of the core network receives resource indications indicative of an estimated resource usage for a given communication service and a given access point of an access network. The admission server furthermore determines and stores current resource availability indications for access points. When a communication session request comprising a communication service indication and an access point identification is received, the admission server determines an estimated resource requirement for the communication sessions based on the resource indications. The admission server then determines whether to allow the communication session dependent on the resource availability for the access point and the estimated resource requirement for the communication service.

  • Patent number: 7725717
Abstract: The invention provides for secure end-to-end user authentication by a remote server communicating with a communication device. The communication device further communicates with an authentication device, which provides a user authentication message to the communication device for forwarding to the remote server. The authentication device comprises a data store for storing user authentication credentials. A user authentication processor performs a local authentication of a user of the authentication device in response to a user input. An authentication processor generates the authentication message if the user authentication is valid. The authentication processor implements a cryptographic function based on the user authentication credentials. A transmitter then transmits the authentication message to the at least one communication device.

  • Publication number: 20090097476
Abstract: An apparatus comprises two processors (105, 107) for supporting a remote terminal in a packet and circuit switched mode of operation respectively as well as two interfaces (113, 117) for interfacing to an external circuit and packet switched network (111, 115) respectively. A first selector (109) can select a remote terminal communication link as a packet switched mode communication link or a circuit switched mode communication link and a second selector (119) can select an external voice communication link as a voice communication link of the external circuit switched network (111) or a voice communication link of the external packet switched network (115) in response to an identity of the other party involved in the call. A conversion processor (121) can support the voice communication by conveying voice data between the selected remote terminal communication link and the selected external voice communication link.

  • Publication number: 20080311866
Abstract: A radio communication system (100) transmits performance requirement notifications defining performance requirements for the operation of a radio equipment (101). The performance requirements are received from a regulation body responsible for certifying the operation of the communication system (100). The reconfigurable radio equipment (101) comprises a reconfigurable radio element (303) and a secure certification processor (301). The secure certification processor (301) comprises a monitoring processor (325) which monitors compliance of the reconfigurable radio element (303) with a set of performance requirements. A validation processor (321) verifies the performance requirement notification and a requirements processor (323) updates the performance requirements in response to the notifications if these are valid.
