  • Patent number: 6337985
Abstract: This invention relates to a method of modifying a current transmitted power distribution used by at least two base stations transmitting a signal to a mobile station on the macro-diversity principle. A mobile station using this method is also disclosed. According to the invention, the method consists substituting the current transmitted power distribution by a new transmitted power distribution, selected among several hypothetical transmitted power distributions, under the condition that this new transmitted power distribution provides a better quality of service at the mobile station than the current one.

  • Patent number: 6195396
Abstract: The invention provides a block-encoded modulation scheme using multi-level partitioning techniques. This scheme is made transparent to phase ambiguities of ±&pgr;/2 and of &pgr;, by means of differential encoding and appropriate mapping, it is applicable to 16-QAM modulation, and it has theoretical encoding gain that is optimal for the rate of the code. The decoder associated with this scheme uses the Wagner algorithm which is much less complicated to implement than the Viterbi algorithm or than the Reed-Solomon algorithm.

  • Patent number: 6028888
Abstract: Coherent demodulation is effected in single-channel and multi-channel coherent demodulation devices without any knowledge of the transmitted signal (i.e. without any pilot signal). The phase shift is estimated by applying a predetermined function to produce a signed value from the argument of a summed signal, the summed signal being itself obtained from the received signal (by quadrature demodulation, complex despreading and summing over N samples). The phase shift estimate is used in a phase-locked loop so that the system converges towards a null error. The residual static phase ambiguity introduced by application of the predetermined function is resolved. A plurality of such single-channel and multi-channel coherent demodulation devices is used in a receiving system using a plurality of diversity paths.

  • Patent number: 5979891
Abstract: A device for selecting cut paperboard blanks has two series of drive belts detining two paths tor the blanks, namely an upper path and a lower path each of which is defined between drive belts. The upper and lower paths diverge from each other in the device. A flap that is disposed where the paths diverge from each other is pivotally mounted about a downstream shaft and is capable of occupying two positions, namely, a lower position in which the blanks are fed to the upper path and an upper position in which the blanks are fed to the lower path. Each of the paths has an upstream portion from the flap and a downstream portion from the flap and each of the paths is more steeply inclined relative to the horizontal in one of its upstream and downstream portions than in the other of its upstream and downstream portions.

  • Patent number: 5830141
Abstract: An image processing method for automatic detection of regions of a predetermined type of cancer in an intensity image of a part of a human or animal body, includes, for a number of points of a part of said image, the determination of a set (referred to as a vector) of components formed by characteristic values derived from the intensity distribution around each point in said part of the image, and the use of a classification system for determining the probability of the point associated with said vector belonging to a region of said part of the image which corresponds to the predetermined type of cancer or to another region. • Patent number: 4923142
Abstract: Disclosed is a device used to bend the end of the trajectory of a rocket in the desired plane without making costly and complicated servo-control mechanisms necessary. A cardan type assembly is formed by a section of the projectile and an internal frame, a gyrostat being mounted in the internal frame. The section carries the control instrument. The device can thus be used to keep the control instrument in a stable roll position throughout the trajectory. It is thus possible to bend the trajectory in a defined direction so as to attack targets from the top with high precision. The device can be adapted to infantry rockets, aeronautical rockets and in general, to short-range projectiles.
