Publication number: 20230237170Abstract: Examples described herein are generally directed towards file server access controls, and more specifically towards a mechanism to create consistent access control lists for local users across different file servers in a distributed file server environment. In operation, a local user system SID (e.g., external SID) may be generated for a first user of a first file server. A global ID based on attributes associated with the user of the first file server may also be generated. The global ID for the user may be stored in metadata associated with an access control list (ACL) for a file accessible through the first file server. Data, including the file may be migrated to a second file server. Based on receiving an access request at the second file server associated with the user based on the external ID, the external ID for the user may be translated into the global ID, and used to determine access to the file.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 24, 2022Publication date: July 27, 2023Applicant: NUTANIX, INC.Inventors: Hemantha Kumar Thummala, Manoj Premanand Naik, Saji Kumar Vijaya Kumari Rajendran Nair, Srikrishan Malik

Patent number: 10824455Abstract: Examples described herein include virtualized file servers which may include load balancing. For example, a recommendation engine may estimate a load associated with each of a plurality of file server virtual machines in a cluster. Based on the load, the recommendation engine may recommend changing ownership of one or more volume groups, scaling up the virtualized file server, scaling down the virtualized file server, scaling in the virtualized file server, scaling out the virtualized file server, or combinations thereof.Type: GrantFiled: December 1, 2017Date of Patent: November 3, 2020Assignee: Nutanix, Inc.Inventors: Durga Mahesh Arikatla, Manoj Naik, Rashmi Gupta, Veerraju Tammineedi, Yifeng Huang, Shyamsunder Prayagchand Rathi, Sravan Kumar Muthyala, Mausumi Ranasingh, Hemanth Kumar Thummala, Manish Gupta, Saji Kumar Vijaya Kumari Rajendran Nair

Patent number: 10255236Abstract: Techniques for notifying clients whose locks did not persist about a loss of lock state after a failover event are disclosed herein. According to one embodiment, a storage node of a high availability cluster constructs a lock data structure based on a mirrored lock data structure for a lock on a data container. The storage node receives a data operation request permitted by the lock from a client to operate on the data container. The storage node instructs to terminate a connection with the client if the lock data structure for the lock on the data container has been recently reconstructed. Accordingly, the client revokes the connection and refrains from committing the locally cached operations to the data container stored in the storage node. The client has an option to reconnect with the cluster and regain the data container privilege controlled by the lock.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 2016Date of Patent: April 9, 2019Assignee: NETAPP, INC.Inventors: William Zumach, Omprakaash C. Thoppai, Wesley R. Witte, Raghavendra C. Maddipatla, Saji Kumar Vijaya Kuman Rajendran Nair Rajendran

Patent number: 9996422Abstract: Methods and systems for a copy-offload operation are provided. A soft range lock is placed for a data container for generating a token for a copy-offload operation for copying the data container from a source location to a destination location, where presence of the soft range lock indicates that content of the data container has not changed during the copy-offload operation. A token for the copy-offload operation represents the content of data container and includes information regarding the soft range lock. The token with the soft range lock information is provided to the client that requests the copy-offload operation. If the soft range lock exists, then the data container is copied without using a point in time copy of the data container.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 2016Date of Patent: June 12, 2018Assignee: NETAPP, INC.Inventors: Saji Kumar Vijayakumari Rajendran Nair, John Meneghini, Arun Kumar Rajendran, Frederick Knight

Patent number: 9692823Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for performing inter-protocol copy offload operations are provided. In one embodiment, a method includes receiving a request in a first interface protocol from a host device. The request is a request to copy a data set from a source data storage location to a destination data storage location. The request includes a token, representing the data set, to be copied that was created using a second interface protocol that is different from the first interface protocol. The method also includes transferring the data set, in response to receiving the request, from the source data storage location to the destination data storage location without transferring the data set to the host device.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 2015Date of Patent: June 27, 2017Assignee: NETAPP, INC.Inventors: Frederick E. Patent number: 9582206Abstract: Methods and systems for executing a copy-offload operation are provided. The method includes determining if content of a source data container can be changed, after the source data container is opened for a copy-offload operation to copy the source data container from a source location to a destination location. The method further includes using a direct copy mode for generating a token for the copy-offload operation, without taking a point in time image of the source data container, when the content cannot be changed based on a mode in which the source data container is opened; and selecting a point in time copy mode by taking the point in time image of the source data container for generating the token, when the content can be changed.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 2014Date of Patent: February 28, 2017Assignee: NETAPP, INC.Inventors: Saji Kumar Vijayakumari Rajendran Nair, Mudit Aggarwal
