  • Publication number: 20180203143
Abstract: A method and system for mapping fractures in a subterranean formation by generating micro-seismic events within fractures using energetic fracturing fluid. The micro-seismic events may be generated by injecting reactive particles and explosive particles into the fractures. A triggering event may occur that allows the reactive particles to come into contact with a fluid within the fractures, causing energetic reactions. The explosive particles may detonate from the energy generated by the reactions.

  • Patent number: 9906172
Abstract: A novel multiple induction electric motor system that separately produces synchronized variable frequency alternating current control signals and using multiple induction electric motors, produces synchronized rotating magnetic fields responsive to the control signals, induces magnetic fields around a conductor in inductive rotors responsive to the rotating magnetic fields, and applies rotational forces between the rotating magnetic fields and the induced magnetic fields to a common shaft of the multiple motors. The common shaft sums the rotational forces and transmits the rotational forces to a drive wheel. Such a system can be implemented using two, three or more synchronized induction electric motors, and respective elements thereof, wherein the stator and rotor laminations can be arranged, stacked and/or otherwise configured such that the multiple induction electric motors operate at lower temperatures and at higher efficiencies.

  • Patent number: 9806587
Abstract: A system and method to reduce core loss in the stator of an electric motor by first preparing laminations of the stator and/or rotor in a water jetting operation, punching or stamping operation, laser cutting operation, or similar manufacturing operation, and then subjecting the laminations to a temperature treatment in a manner such that, upon assembly into a stator and/or rotor of an electric motor and operated within expected parameters, core loss is reduced. The system and method subjects the laminations to a cold bath preferably consisting of liquid nitrogen, after stamping but preferably prior to assembly, and then stacking the laminations together for assembly as a stator and/or rotor of an electric motor.

  • Patent number: 9778168
Abstract: The coating monitoring system is based on electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The system consists of one or more compact and rugged mini-potentiostat modules coupled to one or more electrodes mounted on top of the paint coating of the structure being monitored. The electrodes and modules can be coated with a topcoat if desired. Alternatively, they may be mounted only temporarily to the structure for spot inspection. They periodically report to a laptop. Communications may be implemented using a wireless protocol. The units may be battery powered with an estimated battery lifetime of up to ten years, depending on the frequency of measurement and interrogation Alternative power supplies may be used to replace or supplement the battery to allow extended battery lifetime. Moisture, humidity, or other sensors may be incorporated into the coating monitor.

  • Publication number: 20170044458
Abstract: Disclosed is a lubricant for use in cold forming of a metal. The lubricant comprises a mixture of at least one lubricating compound and at least one starch. The starch adheres the lubricating compound to the metal surface. The present lubricant completely removes the need to pre-coat the metal with a zinc phosphate coating to adhere the lubricating compound to the metal. The present lubricant eliminates several steps required in processes that utilize zinc phosphate pre-coatings. In addition, the lubricant of the present invention is easily removed after the cold forming operations unlike zinc phosphate coatings.

  • Patent number: 9568121
Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for preventing excavation damage to buried infrastructure. A plurality of excavation-sensing modules is buried near the buried infrastructure. The buried infrastructure excavation-sensing modules protect and detect buried infrastructure by emitting dense clouds of visible gas when the excavation-sensing modules are activated by impact with excavation equipment. In most instances, the visible gas will be brightly colored and it may also have a strong odor. In addition to the gas released by the modules, a loud sound may also be produced by the activated excavation-sensing module. This alerts construction crews or other workers that their excavation is nearing a protected underground structure. Once installed, no maintenance or active monitoring is required.

  • Publication number: 20160252083
Abstract: A turbomachine that can be operated as a motor and as a pump, having an axially fixedly mounted shaft, including a power section with rotating inlet and outlet and an associated controller. Because the axial forces (Fgx) have been made independent of the sense of rotation the turbomachine is significantly more reliable, and because the sealing forces have been adjusted it has significantly greater reliability (?) in both running directions. It can be operated with fluids and gases. The turbomachine can be extended by adding a control device and a drive for the control device so as to provide a freewheel function, a braking function and/or blocking function, and so as to shift, modify and optimize the characteristic curves across the entire control range. In both the clockwise and anticlockwise directions the turbomachine has in principle the same properties, although these can be modified and optimized by the control device.

  • Patent number: 9285060
Abstract: A coupling for joining plan end pipe having a housing made from a casting with a pocket disposed in the casting. The pockets holds an insert that engages the plain end pipe, and the insert is secured to the housing without the use of machined features on the housing or the use of additional components or adhesives to secure the insert to the housing. In a preferred embodiment, each insert is disposed in a pocket on the inner surface of the coupling assembly, with projections extending from the inner surface disposed within cavities on opposing sides of each insert to retain the insert within the pocket by obstructing the opening to the pocket. A preferred device and method of forming the projections is a press that deforms the projections to retain the inserts in the pockets.
