  • Publication number: 20060099379
Abstract: A method of producing basic starting material for the manufacture of fastener tabs intended for joining the side portions of the front and rear parts of an absorbent article. The method includes stretching a first sheet of elastic material in a first direction; applying a second and third sheet of material onto respective opposite sides of the first sheet; fastening the three material sheets together in at least two mutually separated zones that extend parallel with each other in one direction perpendicular to the first direction; dividing the first sheet in each region between two zones along a line lying therebetween, whereby the first sheet contracts to a non-stretched state, and thereafter fastening the sheets together in each region between two zones. The invention also relates to an arrangement for carrying out the method, to starting material for producing fastener tabs, and to such a tab.

  • Patent number: 7037300
Abstract: A method of producing an elasticized member having two different degrees of stretch, to be used in an absorbent product. The method involves stretching an elastic member by a first amount and securing part of it in the stretched condition to an inelastic web, while a second portion of the elastic member is stretched by a second amount and secured in the stretched position to the first web or to a second web. Differentially stretched products produced by the method can be used to provide advantages in terms of material savings and elasticity effects in absorbent products.

  • Patent number: 6923798
Abstract: A disposable absorbent article includes first and second end portions, an intermediate crotch portion, and mechanical tape fasteners detachably interconnectable with at least one fastening parts disposed on the outer layer of the first end portion during a position of use. The tape fasteners are arranged on and joined to the inner layer of the second end portion via a producer's bonding face. A user's bonding face is arranged on an opposite user's end part of the tape fastener. Each tape fastener has an odd number of folds in a storage position. Producer's and user's bonding faces are turned towards the inner layer, the user end parts of the fasteners face one another, and the individual fold parts are joined to respective at least one other fold parts by means of a breakable bond in the storage position. The bond is breakable in order to establish the position of use.

  • Publication number: 20040124143
Abstract: A streamlined method for purifying alpha-1-antitrypsin (AAT) from an AAT-containing protein mixture, such as a Cohn fraction IV precipitate, is provided. In the method of the invention, contaminating proteins are destabilized by cleavage of disulfide bonds with a reducing reagent, such as a dithiol, which does not affect AAT. The destabilized proteins are then preferentially adsorbed on a solid protein-adsorbing material, without the addition of a salt as a precipitant. Separation of the solid adsorbent from the solution leaves a purified AAT solution that is directly suitable for chromatographic purification, without the need for extensive desalting as in prior art processes. A process incorporating this method, which provides pharmaceutical grade AAT in high yield on a commercial scale, is also described.

  • Publication number: 20030230378
Abstract: Starting from an elastic material web and an absorbent product web, the method includes removing a first material piece from the elastic material web to provide a second material piece with an aperture and applying the first piece to a first portion of the absorbent product web. The second piece is supplied to a second application station and a section of the second piece is stretched and applied to a second portion of the absorbent product web. In this way an absorbent product with elastic waist portions is manufactured efficiently and with a minimum of waste.

  • Patent number: 6534694
Abstract: A method of securing an elastic band between two material layers which are at least partially defined by meltable material includes forming perforations in the elastic band, placing the elastic band between two material layers, and bonding the material layers to one another through the perforations by heat fusion, wherein the perforations in the elastic band are formed at the same time as the material layers are fused together (i.e., the formation of the perforations in the elastic band is directly followed by bonding together, through the perforations, portions of the material layers). An elastic band secured between two material layers for inclusion in articles of one-time use includes the use of material layers that are at least partially defined by meltable material and an elastic band having perforations formed therein. The material layers are positioned on opposite sides of the elastic band and are joined together by heat fusion.
