Abstract: A method of measuring the effectiveness of a surgical or medical treatment carried out on a patient population is provided. The method involves the steps of selecting a patient population, deriving pre-treatment score and post-treatment scores for each patient based on their questionnaire responses to quality of life-related criteria, deriving an adjusted score by subtracting the pre-treatment score from the post-treatment score, and analyzing the distribution of patients having each adjusted score to provide a measure of the effectiveness of the surgical or medical treatment. The population of patients may includes patients having different values of a variable affecting the effectiveness of the surgical treatment. The effect of these variables on the adjusted scores may be analyzed by a computerized statistical software program.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing a golf club head with an insert having a face plate is disclosed herein. The insert is disposed in a recess of the club head in which the recess has a depth that is greater than the thickness of the insert. The insert preferably has a plurality of tabs on its perimeter to engage the recess walls to allow the insert to essentially float within the recess. An adhesive is preferably disposed between the rear wall of the recess and an interior surface of the insert. Further, an adhesive is applied between the plurality of tabs, and preferably over the exterior surface of each of the plurality of tabs.

Abstract: A signal processing method is provided for sensing movement of an optical sensor relative to a surface. Generally, the method includes steps of: (i) generating sets of signals responsive to motion along each of a first, second, and third direction, the directions not necessarily all different, (ii) combining the sets of signals to generate a first complex signal for each direction at a first time; (iii) combining the sets of signals to generate a second complex signal for each direction at a second time subsequent to the first time; (iv) computing a third complex signal for each direction wherein each of the third complex signals is a predicted value for each of the second complex signals, the predicted signal depending on a number of values representing distance moved; and (v) determining optimum values of the values representing distance moved by minimizing differences between the second and third complex signals.
