  • Publication number: 20050233297
Abstract: A remote learning system combines on-line service information and remote user information with a television signal designed to be received by students using multimedia personal computers. The combined signal is then transmitted to all of the students at their personal computers. At each personal computer, the received signal is separated into its component parts by a VBI modem for display or control on/of the personal computers. Each personal computer is capable of communicating back to a main server over a network such as a public telephone network. A broadcasting facility integrates the information transmitted over the network from a single student with the television signal.

  • Publication number: 20050179231
Abstract: A boat trailer comprising two side beams positioned adjacent to each other, wherein each of the side beams has a forward tongue forming portion converging toward the other side beam. The side beams can be connected to a towing vehicle and the side beams may also have a trailing boat-supporting portion. The trailer also includes at least one cross bar member extending between the boat-supporting portion of one of the side beams and the boat-supporting portion of the other side beam. The various members of the trailer may be punched with holes in a standard pattern.

  • Publication number: 20050179200
Abstract: A game including a playing area divided into a plurality of spaces, and sets of game pieces with each set associated with different players or teams. The players or teams execute strategically selected instructions, such as move, stack and flip, to position their game pieces in the spaces. The first player or team to place their game pieces on spaces such that top game pieces of stacks form a predetermined design, such as a vertical, horizontal or diagonal row, wins the game. The game allows players flexibility to select rules to adjust the skill level of the game.

  • Patent number: 6724780
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for conveying information over a communication network such as a Digital Loop Carrier (DLC) network free of in-band signaling information for at least a portion of an established communication between at least two users so as to reduce the information error rate associated with the established communication. For communication links that support robbed-bit signaling (RBS), the RBS signaling is disabled to allow the communication link to be operated in a clear channel mode. When appropriate, operations can be switch from the clear channel mode back to the RBS mode. Embodiments are described for one-stage DLC systems having a local digital switch (LDS) connected to a remote terminal (RT) by a communication link conforming to either the TR-303 protocol or the TR-008 protocol. In addition, embodiments are described for two-stage DLC systems that also have a distance terminal (DT) connected to the RT by a second communication link.

  • Patent number: 6669048
Abstract: A multi-compartment bottle is provided, the bottle comprising a body defining a plurality of compartments, with each compartment being adapted to contain an amount of a liquid. A neck finish, integral with the body, has an outer surface which defines an opening for and in communication with each respective compartment. Each opening is adapted to allow dispensing of the respective liquid therethrough. The outer surface of the neck finish defines a groove configured to discretely separate the openings such that the groove prevents liquid dispensed from one opening from entering another opening. The openings are further arranged so as to collectively define a substantially circular outer periphery for the neck finish. A closure system for the bottle comprises a plug for and configured to be separably engageable with each respective opening.

  • Patent number: 6559046
Abstract: An insulator for covering an interconnection wiring level in a surface thereof on a semiconductor substrate containing semiconductor devices formed by curing a flowable oxide layer and annealing. The annealing is carried out in the presence of hydrogen and aluminum to obtain a dielectric constant of the oxide layer to a value below 3.2. Also provided is electrical insulation between neighboring devices using the flowable oxide which is cured and annealed. In this case, the annealing can be carried out in hydrogen with or without the presence of aluminum.

  • Patent number: 6370238
Abstract: An improved prompting system for accessing specified functions. According to one embodiment, a particular user may identify himself to the system and thereafter preprogram one or more paths that lead directly to a desired function within the hierarchical menu prompting system. The next time the user needs to access the system the user can navigate directly to the desired function by pressing a predetermined key or sequence of keys on his or her Touch-Tone dial. Alternatively, the prompting system may present as an option a direct path to the desired function.

  • Patent number: 6291703
Abstract: Substituted hydroxyhydrocinnamate esters of the formula (I) where R is alkyl, n is 0 to 2, m is 1 to 4 and A is alkyl, interrupted or uninterrupted alkylene, alkanetriyl or pentaerythrityl, are prepared by continuous transesterification of the corresponding lower alkyl mono-ester with an alkanol or polyol of the formula A-(OH)m. This novel process comprises continuously introducing into and reacting the reactants in a heated distillation column reactor having a reaction zone which contains a solid, heterogeneous transesterification catalyst to form the compound of formula (I) and the corresponding lower alkanol; separating the products so formed based on their difference in volatility; and continuously removing said products from the distillation column at a steady rate, thereby preventing the reaction mixture from reaching chemical equilibrium.

  • Patent number: 6138512
Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining source location for acoustic or other waveform energy in a conducting medium. The method includes simultaneously detecting and transducing the source energy at a plurality of points in the medium into a composite signal representative of the source energy, as sensed at each point. Dispersional modes of propagation of the energy, if more than one, are isolated from each other, preferably by Fourier transform spatially and temporally. Generalized cross correlation is performed on selected isolated modes, resulting in identification of a value from which source location can be located. The apparatus can include an array of spaced apart transducers which are configured to be minimally interfering with source energy propagation through the medium. An multi-channel data acquisition device, including A/D converters for each transducer, captures and digitizes the output of each transducer simultaneously.
