Publication number: 20150181973Abstract: The sole section of a shoe includes a midsole and an outsole which form a translucent sole section. The translucent midsole and translucent outsole are integrally molded with a translucent upper to create a fully translucent jelly footwear. An illumination system is located inside the translucent sole section, causing the jelly footwear to be internally illuminated when the illumination system is active. Due to the translucent nature of the midsole light from the illumination system reflects internally throughout the midsole, increasing illumination. The light will also illuminate the adjacent translucent outsole and translucent upper. Light from the illumination system can be blocked, such as by a colored mold injection, creating an illuminated design or logo. By blacking out or covering sections of the translucent outsole, shapes and letters of visible light can be created in the resulting negative space. This allows illuminated designs to easily be incorporated into footwear.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 5, 2015Publication date: July 2, 2015Inventor: Roy Robert Smith, III

Publication number: 20150164181Abstract: An illumination system is housed in a footwear, the footwear including a sole and an upper. An interfacing layer and a liner form inner interior layers connected to the upper. A plurality of illumination sources are electrically connected to a power source and positioned adjacent to the liner. The illumination sources are positioned between the liner and upper. The upper has a light diffusing section. The light emitted from the plurality of illumination sources is diffused as it passes through the light diffusing section of the upper. Aesthetic designs can be creating, either through the arrangement of the plurality of illumination sources or the provision of a light impermeable section on the upper. The light impermeable section, in combination with the light diffusion section, can be used to form or outline an aesthetic design. The result is an internally illuminated footwear with diffused light.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 26, 2015Publication date: June 18, 2015Inventor: Roy Robert Smith, III

Patent number: 9015965Abstract: The sole section of a shoe includes a midsole and an outsole, with the midsole being made from a translucent material. An illumination system is located inside the translucent midsole, causing the translucent midsole to be internally illuminated when the illumination system is active. Due to the translucent nature of the midsole light from the illumination system reflects internally throughout the midsole, increasing illumination. The light will also illuminate adjacent translucent components, such as the outsole if it is also made from a translucent material. Light from the illumination system can be blocked, such as by an opaque outsole or colored mold injection, and used to form an illuminated design or logo. By blacking out or covering sections of the translucent midsole, shapes and letters of visible light can be created in the negative space of the obstruction sections. This allows illuminated designs to easily be incorporated into footwear.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 2014Date of Patent: April 28, 2015Inventor: Roy Robert Smith, III

Publication number: 20140183071Abstract: A shoe box is specifically designed to display a light-up footwear. The shoe box has a base, a lateral section, and a cover which create a footwear receiving volume in which the light-up footwear is placed. A viewing port on the lateral section allows a consumer to view the interior of the container, allowing them to see the light-up footwear in a dark environment. A visual instruction on the lateral surface next to the viewing port provides instructions on how to use the shoe box. Shaking the shoe box causes vibration which is detected by a trigger system of the light-up footwear. The trigger system activates an illumination system of the light-up footwear, allowing a consumer to see the full effect of the light-up footwear in a dark environment by looking through the viewing port.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 30, 2013Publication date: July 3, 2014Inventor: Roy Robert Smith, III

Publication number: 20130285929Abstract: A control circuit detects an initial interaction between a touch-sensitive surface and a stylus and responsively automatically displays a corresponding fresh electronic ink writing façade. By one approach the initial interaction can comprise a non-touching interaction. The fresh electronic ink writing façade can comprise a representation of an unmarked sheet of paper. If desired, upon detecting the initial interaction, the control circuit can first determine whether an electronic ink writing façade already exists for the presently-displayed content. When true, the control circuit can automatically display at least a portion of the already existing electronic ink writing façade. Otherwise, the control circuit can provide the aforementioned fresh electronic ink writing façade.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 30, 2012Publication date: October 31, 2013Inventors: Wolfgang Michael THEIMER, Ilya Alexander ELIASHEVSKY, James Allen HYMEL, Mathias LEWIN, Roy Robert George WILSON

Patent number: 8327561Abstract: An internally illuminated footwear has a light source shining into a translucent component. Boundary sections are created in the translucent component and are arranged to create various visuals, such as designs and logos. The boundary sections are formed by cavities which cut into the translucent component. Abrasive surfaces may be added to the cavities, or replace the cavities and be added to the surface of the translucent component. The cavities may be filled with a boundary material. Bubbles can be formed within the boundary sections and the translucent component. Light waves originate at the light source and travel through the translucent component. Due to different refractive indices, a light wave will be refracted as it encounters cavities in the boundary sections. The refracting light wave will then appear to originate at the cavities. In this manner, the cavities will appear to have their own individual illuminating source.Type: GrantFiled: July 18, 2012Date of Patent: December 11, 2012Inventor: Roy Robert Smith, III

Publication number: 20120297216Abstract: Dynamically selecting active polling or timed waits by a server in a clustered system includes determining a load ratio of a processor of the server, which is determined by calculating a ratio of an instantaneous run queue occupancy to a number of cores of the processor. The processor is occupied by a first runnable thread that requires a message response. A determination may be made whether power management is enabled on the processor, an instantaneous state may be determined based on the load ratio and whether power management is enabled on the processor, and a state process corresponding to the instantaneous state may be executed.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 19, 2011Publication date: November 22, 2012Applicant: INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATIONInventors: Bret Ronald Olszewski, Kelvin Ho, Roy Robert Cecil

Patent number: 8056677Abstract: This lift system serves as a powered ladder having a small footprint. The system is divided into two subchasses with a mast fixedly attached to a first subchassis for support of a liftable platform which may carry a human operator. Maneuverability is accomplished by a virtual articulating joint between the two subchasses. The joint comprises hydraulic cylinders operating in conjunction with wheel struts to form a three-point support. Articulation enables the lift system to be adjusted on sloped or uneven terrain to maintain the mast in a vertical orientation. One use of the lift system is to carry a fruit picker into an orchard or vineyard and to position the picker to work efficiently. The lift system may carry a robot and may be controlled either locally or remotely.Type: GrantFiled: July 23, 2010Date of Patent: November 15, 2011Assignee: Roberts Equipment, Inc.Inventors: Roy Roberts, Fred K. Patent number: 7924999Abstract: A communication system is described that comprises a switching system, an SCP, and a customer premises. The customer premises includes a remote processor and a plurality of terminating devices. When in operation, the switching system receives a call. Because of the type of call, the switching system queries the SCP for routing information on where to route the call, and the SCP queries the remote processor in the customer premises. The remote processor processes the query to determine routing information to route the call to a terminating device in the customer premises. The remote processor generates a code that includes the routing information and transmits the code to the SCP. The SCP processes the code to identify the routing information determined by the remote processor. The SCP then transmits the routing information to the switching system to cause the switching system to route the call to the terminating device.Type: GrantFiled: October 13, 2004Date of Patent: April 12, 2011Assignee: Sprint Communications Company L.P.Inventor: Roy Robert Spillman, III
