  • Patent number: 9324354
Abstract: Magnetic storage media that include a multilayer structure are described. In general, the magnetic storage media include a substrate, an underlayer that includes a plurality of underlayer particles formed over the substrate, and a magnetic layer that includes a plurality of magnetic particles formed over the underlayer. The magnetic layer may define a saturated magnetization and thickness product less than or equal to approximately 1.00 memu per square centimeter, and the magnetic particles may be selected from the group consisting of magnetic platelet-shaped particles and magnetic particles with an aspect ratio less than or equal to approximately 1.5. In addition, the described magnetic storage media may exhibit minimal interlayer diffusion between the underlayer and magnetic layer. Reduced interlayer diffusion between different layers of a magnetic recording medium may result in an improved magnetic recording surface for recording and storing data.

  • Publication number: 20150286386
Abstract: Progressive functionality command and object access for object and other content insertion and modification are provided. In a software application user interface, when a given command is selected, where the command is a parent command having one or more child commands, a subset of all available child commands under the selected parent command may be provided in the user interface in proximity to the selected parent command. If a user needs more or different commands than are presented in the subset, a contextual pane may be selectively presented in the user interface having a number of additional available commands for selection by the user. Once the contextual pane is displayed, it may stay displayed until it is manually or automatically dismissed.

  • Publication number: 20150286533
Abstract: Save and synchronization status information is provided. The save and synchronization status information may be concise yet informative to a user and may provide an indication of the current save state of the document: “saved,” “dirty,” or “saving.” The indication of the current save state may be displayed in a consistent and reliable spot such that the user may reliably know where to look to find the document's save status. Other save states may be included, such as offline or error. The indication may be selectable, such that when selected, the user may see additional save and synchronization status detail, and may be enabled to rename the document.

  • Publication number: 20150124583
Abstract: The present invention includes various novel systems and methods for communication in a network. A System Environment Monitor is employed in some embodiments to extract from the network both real-time and historical Network Metrics at the Infrastructure Layer, as well as Application Metadata at the Application Layer. Network analytics facilitate decisions based upon the differing characteristics of Application Components and lower-level hardware components across multiple DTTs. In response, an SDN Controller generates modified sets of SDN Flows, and implements them in real time across a mixed technology (multi-DTT) network in a manner that avoids disrupting existing SDN Flows and other real-time network traffic.

  • Publication number: 20140193154
Abstract: The present invention includes various novel systems and methods for dynamically modifying WDM transmission and receive steps (individually or in combination), including encoding client signals, mapping them to subchannels within or across ITU channels, modulating them onto subcarrier frequencies, and multiplexing them together for optical transmission. By dynamically modifying one or more of these processing steps over time (as well as encrypting underlying client signals), additional security is provided at the physical (optical) layer of an optical network, thereby greatly enhancing overall network security. Tunable lasers are employed to generate respective subcarrier frequencies, which represent subchannels of an ITU channel to which client signals are mapped.

  • Patent number: 8359739
Abstract: In one embodiment, a meta-module having circuitry for two or more modules is formed on a substrate, which is preferably a laminated substrate. The circuitry for the different modules is initially formed on the single meta-module. Each module will have one or more component areas in which the circuitry is formed. A metallic structure is formed on or in the substrate for each component area to be shielded. A single body, such as an overmold body, is then formed over all of the modules on the meta-module. At least a portion of the metallic structure for each component area to be shielded is then exposed through the body by a cutting, drilling, or like operation. Next, an electromagnetic shield material is applied to the exterior surface of the body of each of the component areas to be shielded and in contact with the exposed portion of the metallic structures.
