    Abstract: To provide an aluminum nitride powder and an aluminum nitride sintered body which satisfy both high thermal conductivity of an aluminum nitride sintered body and reduction in the shrinkage factor at the time of sintering. An aluminum nitride powder characterized in that it has local maximum values in size in regions of from 3 to 15 ?m, from 0.5 to 1.5 ?m and 0.3 ?m or less, the proportions of particles in the respective regions are from 40 to 70%, from 25 to 40% and from 0.5 to 20% on the volume basis, and it has an oxygen amount of from 0.5 to 1.5 mass %. An aluminum nitride sintered body which is a sintered body of a powder mixture containing the above aluminum nitride powder and a sintering aid, characterized by having a thermal conductivity of at least 190 W/m·K and a shrinkage factor represented by the percentage of {(dimensions of the molded body before sintering)?(dimensions of the sintered body after sintering)}/(dimensions of the molded body before sintering) of at most 15%.

    Abstract: A liquid crystal display device includes a panel having pixel electrodes arranged at intersections of a plurality of signal lines via switching elements for transmitting display data and a plurality of scanning lines for transmitting control signals, and a control circuit for controlling the panel. The liquid crystal panel is divided into first pixel regions and second pixel regions adjacent to the first pixel regions. The control circuit carries out impulse driving in which the control signals transmitted to each of the scanning lines are activated two times in one frame period for displaying an image. The control circuit writes the display data in either one of the pixel regions and writes reset data in the other pixel regions when the control signals are activated once of the two times. By writing the reset data in the pixel regions, the display data written in an immediately preceding frame are reset.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a light source device including discharge tubes that emit light by discharging in a thin atmosphere, a method of producing the light source device, and a display apparatus in which the light source device is employed. This light source device includes discharge tubes and a heat conductive member that is brought into contact with the neighboring area of the electrodes of the discharge tubes so as to locally cool down the neighboring area of the electrodes. In the light source device, a low heat conductivity member having lower heat conductivity than the heat conductive member is interposed between the heat conductive member and the discharge tubes. With such a structure, the luminance in the entire light source device can be increased and made uniform, and the reliability of the light source device can be increased accordingly.

The color display dots in each picture element are arranged in the vertical relationship and in the order of wavelength of the light. A green light component of diffracted light of the first order is made incident normal to the liquid crystal panel, and the diffracted light of the zeroth order passes through the liquid crystal panel at a greater angle relative to the normal to the liquid crystal panel.
