  • Publication number: 20150366185
Abstract: The invention is a new product where the chitin or demineralised dehydrated chitinaceous/crustacean exoskeleton acts as a substrate for the microbes and also induces the production of chitinase/protease enzymes. The enzymes will act on the chitinaceous exoskeleton of pathogenic insects and fungus providing pesticidal activity. This invention also brings out a novel product which comprises of chitin or demineralised dehydrated chitinaceous/crustacean exoskeleton with chitinase/protease enzymes along with microbes that produce chitnase/protease enzymes.

  • Publication number: 20150155546
Abstract: A battery electrode composition is provided that comprises composite particles. Each composite particle may comprise, for example, active fluoride material and a nanoporous, electrically-conductive scaffolding matrix within which the active fluoride material is disposed. The active fluoride material is provided to store and release ions during battery operation. The storing and releasing of the ions may cause a substantial change in volume of the active material. The scaffolding matrix structurally supports the active material, electrically interconnects the active material, and accommodates the changes in volume of the active material.

  • Publication number: 20150064568
Abstract: Metal-ion battery cells are provided that take advantage of the disclosed “doping” process. The cells may be fabricated from anode and cathode electrodes, a separator, and an electrolyte. A metal-ion additive may be incorporated into (i) one or more of the electrodes, (ii) the separator, or (iii) the electrolyte. The metal-ion additive provides additional donor ions corresponding to the metal ions stored and released by anode and cathode active material particles. An activation potential may then be applied to the anode and cathode electrodes to release the additional donor ions into the battery cell.

  • Patent number: 8932764
Abstract: A battery electrode composition is provided comprising core-shell composites. Each of the composites may comprise a sulfur-based core and a multi-functional shell. The sulfur-based core is provided to electrochemically react with metal ions during battery operation to store the metal ions in the form of a corresponding metal-sulfide during discharging or charging of the battery and to release the metal ions from the corresponding metal-sulfide during charging or discharging of the battery. The multi-functional shell at least partially encases the sulfur-based core and is formed from a material that is (i) substantially permeable to the metal ions of the corresponding metal-sulfide and (ii) substantially impermeable to electrolyte solvent molecules and metal polysulfides.

  • Patent number: 8894054
Abstract: The invention is a clamping plate used to stiffen and hold a large, thin workpiece having low inherent stiffness. The clamping plate has a back layer, an intermediate layer and a contact layer. A plurality of grooves, which serve as air channels, is provided in the contact layer and the intermediate layer impart flexibility to the clamping plate. The clamping plate has sufficient flexibility to adapt to the specified contour of the workpiece. The contact layer is placed against the workpiece and vacuum apparatus provides suction through the air channels, which are in flow communication with each other between the two layers, to hold the workpiece against the clamping plate. One or more seals defines a holding area on the contact layer and prevent loss of suction.

  • Publication number: 20140212890
Abstract: Embodiments herein provide methods, apparatuses, and systems for detecting, monitoring, measuring, and/or characterizing the activity of phosphoproteins, such as tyrosine kinases (TKs) and downstream proteins in TK signal transduction pathways (e.g., TK pathway proteins). In various embodiments, the methods, apparatuses, and systems may use nanoparticles, such as quantum dots (QD), to detect and/or characterize the abnormally overactive TK signaling pathways that underlie tumorgenesis and tumor progression. In various embodiments, the QD-based methods, apparatuses, and systems may have a sufficiently high degree of sensitivity to enable the identification of new TK signaling pathway markers, for example for use in diagnosing, staging, monitoring, and/or prognosing cancers, or in evaluating the efficacy of cancer therapeutics.

  • Patent number: 8791780
Abstract: The invention relates to a hydraulic transmission valve with a magnetizable housing which is integrally configured in one piece with a pole core cone. The transmission valve according to the invention facilitates comfortably coupling in particular startup clutches, shifting clutches or synchronization clutches in a friction locking manner. Still using a transmission valve of this type is facilitated for fewer to no transmission oil changes. Furthermore a transmission valve of this type can also be used in countries with inferior transmission oil quality. The housing includes a connection. The connection defines an anchor stroke and a concentric arrangement between the pole core cone and a pole tube. Thus, the pole tube is fixated the magnetizable pole flange. An anchor that is exclusively supported in the pole tube is magnetically separated from the pole tube through a separation layer with a thickness of 0.01 mm to 0.06 mm.

  • Publication number: 20140057179
Abstract: A battery electrode composition is provided comprising composite particles, with each composite particle comprising active material and a scaffolding matrix. The active material is provided to store and release ions during battery operation. For certain active materials of interest, the storing and releasing of the ions causes a substantial change in volume of the active material. The scaffolding matrix is provided as a porous, electrically-conductive scaffolding matrix within which the active material is disposed. In this way, the scaffolding matrix structurally supports the active material, electrically interconnects the active material, and accommodates the changes in volume of the active material.
