  • Publication number: 20060051212
Abstract: A turbine blade includes a platform having a top surface, a bottom surface, and a peripheral sidewall between the top and bottom surfaces. An airfoil protrudes from the top surface of the platform. A blade mount extends from the bottom surface of the platform for attaching the turbine blade to a turbine wheel. • Patent number: 6996771
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for the dynamic modification of parameters existing within computing systems are described. An application program runs a Graphical User Interface (GUI) having a navigator panel 152 and an edit panel 154. An XML textual file 160 is written to the application GUI 150 by Java™ code. The navigator panel 152 represents the XML file in a tree structure having groups of parameters. When a particular parameter is selected, it is caused to appear in the edit panel 154, where its attributes (textual) can be added or modified. The modified parameter is then persisted to a database 170.

  • Publication number: 20060022412
Abstract: A pair of pivoting parts are held together with a pin, with a first part, such as a rod end of a hydraulic actuator, positioned between two flanges of a bracket, with the flanges having surfaces mating with sides surfaces of the rod end. A seal is placed in each of a pair of recesses on the opposite side surfaces of the rod end to provide an annular seal around the surface of the pin as the parts pivot, and also having a flange forming a side seal that seats on one of the mating surfaces of the bracket at a location spaced outwardly from the pin and extending annularly around the pin. The seal portion engaging the pin is spaced inwardly from the respective side surface of the bracket, and the outer annular lip seals a space surrounding the pin to form a pocket to receive grease that is used to lubricate the pin relative to the rod end.

  • Publication number: 20050239850
Abstract: A method of using quaternary ammonium compounds for inhibiting attachment of and removing a broad spectrum of foodborne microbial contamination from food products. The method uses quaternary ammonium compounds for inhibiting attachment of and removing microorganisms such as, Staphylococcus, Campylobacter, Arcobacter, Listeria, Aeromonas, Bacillus, Salmonella, non-toxin-producing Escherichia, and pathogenic toxin-producing Escherichia, such as 0157:H7; fungi, such as Aspergillus flavus and Penicillium chrysogenum; and parasites, such as Entameba histolytica from a broad range of food. The foods that can be treated by this method are meat, seafood, vegetables, and fruit. • Publication number: 20050158757
Abstract: The disclosed nucleic acid primer sets, used in combination with quantitative amplification (PCR) of tissue cDNA, can indicate the presence of specific proteases in a tissue sample. Specifically, the present invention relates to expression of PUMP-1 protease (matrix metalloprotease 7). The detected proteases are themselves specifically over-expressed in certain cancers, and their presence may serve for early detection of associated ovarian and other malignancies, and for the design of interactive therapies for cancer treatment.

  • Publication number: 20050040071
Abstract: A block molded from a polymeric material has a through passageway to contain a percussive shock wave. Angularly related channels communicate with the containment passageway for receiving arcuate segments of detonation cord. Alignment of a plurality of blocks provides a convenient packaging setup for the cord. A percussive signal traveling along the cord can be short-circuited in the packaging setup. A diode version of the block can react to the signal in a given direction of travel.

  • Publication number: 20040127401
Abstract: The CA125 gene has been cloned and multiple repeat sequences as well as the carboxy terminus have been identified. The CA125 molecule comprises three major domains: an extracellular amino terminal domain (Domain 1); a large multiple repeat domain (Domain 2); and a carboxy terminal domain (Domain 3) which includes a transmembrane anchor with a short cytoplasmic domain. The amino terminal domain is assembled by combining five genomic exons, four very short amino terminal sequences and one extraordinarily large exon. This domain is dominated by its capacity for O-glycosylation and its resultant richness in serine and threonine residues. Additionally, an amino terminal extension is present, which comprises four genomic exons. The amino acid composition of the amino terminal extension was found to be consistent with the amino acid composition of the amino terminal domain. The molecular structure is dominated by a repeat domain comprising 156 amino acid repeat units, which encompass the epitope binding sites.

  • Publication number: 20030068318
Abstract: The present invention provides method of treating uterine serous papillary carcinoma in an individual in need of such treatment, comprising the step of administering to said individual a therapeutically effective dose of a HER-2/neu antibody. Also provided is a method of differentiating primary uterine serous papillary carcinoma from serous papillary ovarian tumors in an individual, comprising the step of measuring the expression of HER-2/neu in said tissue, wherein the presence of an increased and constitutive expression pattern in said tissue indicates that said tumor is a uterine serous papillary carcinoma. Further provided is a method of treating uterine serous papillary carcinoma in an individual in need of such treatment, comprising the step of administering to said individual a therapeutically effective dose of a HER-2/neu antibody and a therapeutically effective dose of interleukin-2.

  • Patent number: 6260115
Abstract: A method for detecting and remembering multiple sequential access patterns made from a host to a memory system having one or more logical storage devices. Once a sequential access pattern is detected, one or more tracks are requested to be prestaged ahead of the current access request. The number of tracks requested to be prestaged ahead may be responsive to the amount of storage available in the cache memory. One list is provided for each logical storage device. Each list has multiple entries and is logically divided into two parts. A sequential part contains entries for access streams which the system has determined are sequential and for which the system may have prestaged one or more tracks into cache. A candidate part contains information about recent host accesses which have not as yet been determined to be sequential. The entries within each of the two parts of the list are logically ordered in a most-recently-used fashion.

  • Patent number: 6141771
Abstract: A system and method for providing a trusted machine state in a data processing system is disclosed. The data processing system includes a memory. The trusted machine state is stored in a first portion of the memory. The method and system include saving the trusted machine state in a second portion of the memory and reinitializing a portion of the memory. The portion of memory is separate from the second of memory. The method and system further include restoring the trusted machine state in the memory. According to the method and system disclosed herein, the data processing system may recover from failures and resume operation. Moreover, a non-disruptive code load, in which a new program can be loaded without disrupting system operations, may be performed.

  • Patent number: 6038639
Abstract: The present data file storage management system for snapshot copy operations maintains a two level mapping table which enables the data files to be copied using the snapshot copy process and only having to update a single corresponding mapping table entry when the physical location of the data file is changed. The snapshot copy updates to the contents of the first level of the two level mapping table are stored on the backend data storage devices to provide a record of the snapshot copy operation which can be used to recover the correct contents of the mapping table. This record of the snapshot copy operations remains valid even though the physical location of a copied data file instance is subsequently changed. Furthermore, the physical storage space holding the updated portions of the first level of the two level mapping table can be managed using techniques like those used to manage the physical storage space holding data file instances.
