  • Publication number: 20020087569
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and system for computerized synchronization of an audio stream having a first synchronized textual representation usable for subtitling of the audio stream in the original language, with a second synchronized textual representation which can be used as an alternative subtitle including a transcription of the original language into another language. Time synchronous links can be built between the audio stream and, for instance, the textual representations of the words spoken in the audio stream. More particularly, the second representation can inherit the synchronization between the audio stream and the first representation using structure association information determined between the first and the second representation.

  • Publication number: 20020085818
Abstract: An optical device assembly includes an optical device. The optical device has an optical fiber led from the device with an anti-kink protector, and also a transmitting and/or receiving module having such an optical device. The anti-kink protector is made of a material and/or the anti-kink protector is sheathed with a material that is electrically conductive or highly absorbent to electromagnetic waves. The transmitting and/or receiving module is constructed in such a way that the anti-kink protector is disposed in the area of an opening of the module housing and at the same time is coupled electrically to the module housing. The electrical coupling of the electrically conductive anti-kink protector to the module housing results in a considerable reduction in the interference radiation that emerges.

  • Publication number: 20020070493
Abstract: In a device for reducing the frictional force between a guiding or carrying element for sheets in a sheet-processing machine, in particular rotary printing machines, guiding and carrying elements acted upon by throttled blowing air include a sheet surface, orifices fluidically connected to a hollow interior, and a throttle disposed in the hollow interior. The elements are to be connected to an air source for blowing air out through the orifices and for generating an air cushion between a sheet and the sheet surface. Each of the orifices is preceded by the throttle with respect to a direction of air from the air source.

  • Publication number: 20020063379
Abstract: The invention relates to a device (1) for generating an offset (2) of transported flexible sheet material (3), especially sheets of paper, with a feeding and a discharging transport path section (5 and 7) and a transport path section (6) which is assigned to the offset generating means (10). These devices of the prior art often require a control, resetting of the offset generating means after each sheet of material (3) or they do not operate independently of format. The invention affords relief by the offset generating means (10) having at least two deflections (8, 9 or 8, 8′, 9, 9′) which are parallel, which work in opposite directions, and which can be moved to an angle (gamma) to the transport direction (4); this angle is measured in the plane of the feeding transport path section (5) and is not equal to 90° projected onto this plane.

  • Publication number: 20020012037
Abstract: The invention concerns a device for transport of stock for a printing unit. The stock, in the form of paper or film, is taken up in different feeds (1, 2, 3). Inputs (26, 27, 28) are connected to them to introduce the stock into the stock feed path (7). The stock passes through a number of processing stations (6, 8, 11, 14, 22) along its stock feed path (7). The stock feed path (7, 13) contains a number of shunts (10, 17, 24) for the stock, with which unprinted stock passes through individual processing stations (6, 8, 11, 14, 29) or can be transported past them, can be fed to different delivery sites (18, 19) and/or already printed stock can be reintroduced to the stock feed sequence via a turning (22).

  • Publication number: 20010038576
Abstract: The static mixer comprises profiled layers (1, 2) which are arranged in a ring space (3) and which contain mutually crossing flow channels (14, 24) which are inclined relative to a central axis (z). A fluid mixture (4) is to be transported in the axial direction in the presence of a mixing action. Each layer extends over a surface which forms a closed or largely closed periphery transverse to the axis (z). Each layer comprises equivalent channels (14, 14′, 24 and 24′ respectively) which extend on an inner or outer side of the layer over at least approximately equally long distances from a first to a second cross-section of the ring space, so that each channel imposes an azimuthal velocity component (40, 41) onto the fluid mixture which flows through it which is substantially equally large for all equivalent channels.

  • Publication number: 20010005823
Abstract: A characteristic identifier for digital data is generated. Thereby, the information contained in a digital data set is reduced such that the resulting identifier is made comparable to another identifier made in the same manner. The generated identifiers are used for detecting identical digital data or to determine inexact copies of digital data. In one embodiment of the invention, the digital data is a digital audio signal and the characteristic identifier is called an audio signature. The comparison of identical audio data according to the invention can be carried out without a person actually listening to the audio data. The present invention can be used to establish automated processes to find potential unauthorized copies of audio data, e.g., music recordings, and therefore enables a better enforcement of copyrights in the audio industry.

  • Patent number: 6032698
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for lining a pipe through a sealing internal lining by using a flexible tube including adhesive, which is introduced into said pipe in turning inside out manner and is kept dimensionally stable until the adhesive is cured. To reduce the frictional force during the introducing operation a strip additive is deposited onto the outside of the flexible tube prior to the turning up operation. A strip additive having a gel-like consistence is used to minimize the frictional force. For a uniformly wetting the flexible tube with the strip additive, this is transferred into a liquid condition by heating prior to depositing. After depositing, it quickly cools down to the ambient temperature such that the required gel-like consistence is ensured for the introducing operation. Thereby it is possible to line pipes or ducts comprising several pipe bends an angles within the line course.

  • Patent number: 6028469
Abstract: An electric circuit having a switchable feedback branch switchable between a first feedback state, in which the circuit arrangement has a frequency response that is stable with respect to an oscillation tendency, and a second feedback state, in which the circuit arrangement has a frequency response that is unstable with respect to an oscillation tendency. The circuit includes a switchable frequency response compensation circuit which during the first feedback state of the feedback branch can be controlled to an ineffective state and during the second feedback state of the feedback branch can be controlled to an effective state, and in the effective state causes such compensation of the frequency response of the circuit arrangement in the second feedback state that the circuit arrangement in the second feedback state remains stable with respect to an oscillation tendency.

  • Patent number: 5656770
Abstract: A method for testing a spark-ignited internal combustion engine is proposed, wherein a pulse-shaped signal derived from the ignition system is made available which signal allocates a pulse (34, 34a, 34b) to each switching process occurring in the ignition system. A first pulse (34) of a pulse group (32, 33) of the signal respectively starts a retriggerable timer (16) which, during its active phase (T.sub.A, T'.sub.A), suppresses the pulses (34a, 34b) of the pulse group (32, 33) following the first pulse (34). The time to be predetermined for the retriggerable timer (16) must be predetermined such that it is longer than the maximum interval (T.sub.1, T.sub.2) between the pulses (34, 34a, 34b) of a pulse group (32, 33). The method according to the invention is particularly suitable for testing a spark-ignited internal combustion engine which is provided with an ignition system comprising a spark band ignition.

  • Patent number: 5327320
Abstract: An apparatus for suppression of individual ignition events in an ignition system includes a short-circuit switch, connected in parallel to the primary winding of the ignition coil. The short-circuit switch is controlled by a control switch. In order to avoid having to provide a separate power supply to furnish triggering energy to the control switch, this energy is derived from the energy stored in the ignition coil during a closing phase of the ignition switch. This requires fewer components than prior art circuits designed for the same purpose.
