  • Publication number: 20070129079
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the allocation and release of channels in a communication system. A first session is established associated with the first mobile node via a radio node and a call control node to a conversation state. The establishment of a second session associated with a second mobile node is started in the same cell. The lack of available channels in the cell is determined in association with the second session. The first session is selected for dropping based on information on the session within the cell. The first session is released in response to the selection. Thereupon, the channel thus made available is allocated for the second session in the radio node.

  • Patent number: 7197318
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for controlling a connection transfer in a cellular network having at least two systems, such as a GSM system and a WCDMA system. Based on a load determination, a service-based inter-system or inter-frequency handover of the connection to another system or to another carrier of the same system is initiated if the determined is below a threshold and service priorities are indicating it. If it exceeds the threshold, an additional load-based inter-system or inter-frequency handover can be initiated. If the load of the target cell is not known, a load estimation based on a learning process can be used to derive a probability of success of an interfrequency or inter-system handover, which may be used for deciding on the initiation of the inter-system handover. The learning process may be performed by evaluating preceding interfrequency or inter-system handovers to the target cell or preceding interfrequency or inter-system handovers from the target cell.

  • Publication number: 20070043558
Abstract: The present invention relates to a resource allocation method, network controller device and a switching control device allocating resources to a subscriber of a communication network, wherein at least one allowed codec type is selected for the subscriber based on a relative priority information received from the communication network, e.g., from the switching control device (40). The selected at least one allowed codec type is signaled towards a terminal device (10) of the subscriber. Thereby, priority-based user differentiation can be introduced to provide different quality of service based on the allocated relative priority. This allows maintaining high quality services even in high load or low signal strength environments.

  • Patent number: 7167709
Abstract: An inter-frequency handover of a UE connection is performed in which the frequency of the uplink connection from the UE to a base station remains the same and the frequency of the downlink connection from the base station to the UE changes from a first downlink frequency to a second downlink frequency. A request for the handover is transmitted from the base station. The request containing information indicating the second downlink frequency and information indicating that the uplink frequency remains the same. In response to the request, the physical layer of the uplink connection is maintained while changing the downlink frequency from the first downlink frequency to the second downlink frequency.

Abstract: There is proposed a mechanism for controlling a communication connection of a user equipment in a communication network. The communication network comprises at least a core network subsystem having at least one core network control element, and a first access network subsystem and at least a second access network subsystem. On one hand, when it is detected that at least one connection parameter of a communication connection of the user equipment can not be maintained by the first access network subsystem, a connection modification message is sent to the core network control element. The core network control element responds with an acknowledgement message the acknowledgement message comprising an instruction parameter for instructing that the communication connection of the user equipment is to be changed to the second access network subsystem being determined to having the capability to provide the connection parameter.

  • Publication number: 20060171359
Abstract: A method for transferring user equipment from a current cell during an ongoing communication is disclosed. The current cell belongs to a first network. In the method capability information for at least one available cell of a second network is determined in a controller of the current cell, where after at least one cell of the second network is selected based on the capability information to prepare a transfer of the user equipment from the current cell. • Publication number: 20060171376
Abstract: In a method for providing a further service for user equipment provided with a circuit switched service in a first communication system a request for a packet data service is first received in the first communication system. The user equipment is then transferred to a second communication system before establishing a data connection for the requested packet data service in the first communication system. A request for the packet data service is processed in the second communication system, where after the requested packet data service is provided for the user equipment by the second communication system.

  • Publication number: 20060111110
Abstract: The invention relates to a radio resource control method, a mobile communications system and a network element implementing the method. According to the invention, the cell change procedures performed by the user equipment in an idle state are controlled dynamically with control information that is adjusted according to a predetermined time pattern. • Patent number: 6859642
Abstract: Signal strength measurements for different frequencies in different cells are calibrated in a cellular communications system. The signal strength of first and second frequencies in at least one cell of a plurality of cells is repeatedly measured. A measurement history is created for said first and second frequencies in at least the one cell. Each measurement history is based on the signal strength measurements of one of the first and second frequencies in the respective one cell. The measurement histories are stored. A respective correction factor is determined for each possible pair of first and second frequencies in at least the one cell. Each correction factor is based on the stored measurement history of the first and second frequencies in the pair. The respective correction factor for a pair of first and second frequencies cell is applied when comparing the signal strength measurements of the first and second frequencies in said pair.

  • Patent number: 6836471
Abstract: A method and system for inter-operator handover in a telecommunications network comprising a greenfield WCDMA operator and a GSM/WCDMA operator. When a mobile terminal of the greenfield operator is moving from the coverage area of the home network to the GSM/WCDMA area, a neighbor list of GSM cells is provided to the mobile terminal for handover to a GSM cell when the home network coverage is not available. When the mobile terminal is returning home from the GSM/WCDMA area, a neighbor list of the home cells is provided to the mobile terminal so that the greenfield mobile station is connected to its home network whenever there is coverage. Preferably, the neighbor lists are provided to the mobile terminal only in the connected mode.
