  • Patent number: 6648389
Abstract: A microtool for manipulating components is proposed. A component is held with the microtool by at least one gripper arm having a gripping surface, the gripper being movable by an actuator structure. Also provided is a device for releasing the held component from the gripping surface, whereby an acceleration is induced in the gripper arm for at least a time, and the force of inertia resulting from the inertial mass of the held component and the exerted acceleration will be greater than any force of adhesion acting between the held component and the gripping surface. A process is also proposed for producing a microtool or a microtool part, in particular a microgripper by micropatterning.

  • Publication number: 20030161949
Abstract: Coatings of dialkylsilyloxy groups are applied to water-wettable surfaces by chemical vapor deposition using dihalodialkylsilanes with short-chain alkyl groups. Some of the surfaces which will benefit from the application of these coatings are hydroxyl-terminated silicon surfaces of microelectromechanical systems, nanoelectromechanical systems, and biomicroelectromechanical systems, while surfaces of other chemistries will benefit as well. When applied to a microstructure on an MEMS surface, the coating reduces stiction in the microstructure. The use of the vapor phase as a deposition medium facilitates the deposition process and permits close control over the reaction conditions and the characteristics of the resulting coating.

  • Patent number: 6592664
Abstract: A method for epitaxial deposition of atoms or molecules from a reactive gas on a deposition surface of a substrate is described. The method includes the following steps: a first amount of energy is supplied by heating at least the deposition surface; and an ionized inert gas is conducted, at least from time to time, onto the deposition surface in order to supply, at least from time to time, a second amount of energy through the effect of ions of the ionized inert gas on the deposition surface. The first amount of energy is less than the energy amount necessary for the epitaxial deposition of atoms or molecules of the reactive gas on the deposition surface. A sum of the first energy amount and the second energy equaling, at least from time to time, a total amount of energy that is sufficient for the epitaxial deposition of atoms or molecules of the reactive gas onto the deposition surface.

  • Patent number: 6555443
Abstract: A method for producing a thin film on a carrier substrate. For this purpose, a buried sacrificial layer is initially produced in the interior of a parent body, the buried sacrificial layer separating a layer from a residual body remaining from the parent body. After that, the carrier substrate is attached to the layer and the sacrificial layer is then removed. As a result, the thin film to be produced comes into being on the carrier substrate. The method is suitable for the production of electronic components or thin-film solar cells, the parent body being made up, for example, of monocrystalline silicon in which a sacrificial layer of porous silicon is produced.

  • Patent number: 6443008
Abstract: A gyroscope system including multiple rotating or oscillating disks filters out disturbance acceleration inputs such as vibrations or jarring while detecting and measuring external angular velocity. The gyroscope disks are decoupled from a substrate to decrease the impact of external vibrations on the gyroscope operation. The gyroscope disks are rotated in opposite directions or oscillated out of phase to decrease the impact of disturbance vibrations and jarring while more accurately measuring external angular velocities applied to the system.

  • Publication number: 20010055881
Abstract: A method for removing layers or layer systems from a substrate and subsequent application onto an alternative substrate. A porous breakaway layer is formed by anodization in hydrofluoric acid. Optionally, a stabilizing layer with lower porosity is previously produced on top of the breakaway layer. The oxide of the porous breakaway layer or the stabilizing layer is removed by brief contact with HF, and an epitaxial layer is applied on the porous breakaway layer or the stabilizing layer. The epitaxial layer or the layer system is then removed from the substrate, and the epitaxial layer or the layer system is applied onto an alternative substrate. Optionally, the stabilizing layer and/or residues of the breakaway layer are removed from the epitaxial layer.

  • Patent number: 6174746
Abstract: A method of producing an optical waveguide, in which a substrate of silicon is etched porously to a defined depth by anodic oxidation in an electrolyte containing hydrofluoric acid. The etched substrate is doped in a suitable dopant liquid containing cations. The doped layer of porous silicon is stabilized at an elevated temperature, and the stabilized layer is oxidized with a further increase in temperature. The oxidized porous layer is made to collapse at a temperature sufficient for partial melting. The surface of the collapsed silicon dioxide layer is covered in a pattern by a lithographic technique, and the cations are replaced by silver ions in the uncovered areas of the surface by bringing the surface in contact with a solution containing silver ions or silver complex ions.
