  • Patent number: 5735064
Abstract: A handle slide control for a push implement that includes a cable running in a tubular handle. The tubular handle includes a slot and a knob slideably engaged in the slot. The cable, running generally in a loop, is fixed at a proximal end portion to an interior portion of the knob and is further fixed at a distal end portion to a component of the push implement. One preferred implement is a snowthrower and a preferred component is a snow directional chute. The tubular handle is hinged and may be folded with the cable to its compact form for storage. Pulley wheels direct the cable from the tubular handle to the body of the push implement. In operation, a sliding of the cable by the knob to an infinite number of positions in turn permits a wide variety of options for the component. Operation of the sliding cable is easily accomplished, even while squeezing the elongate kill bar switch.

  • Patent number: 5735067
Abstract: A Snubber is used to damp the swing of the door on an excavator bucket to prevent the door form being damaged by repeatedly slamming shut. The snubber has housing which mounts to an excavator bucket and a shaft pivotally mounted in the housing and connected to an excavator door. The shaft turns when the excavator door opens. The housing has a cylindrical cavity around the shaft. The cavity is divided into two volumes by a dam and a wiper arm on the shaft. The wiper arm forces hydraulic fluid to flow through an orifice between the volumes as the shaft turns. The wiper arm has end seals which seal against end walls of the cavity. The end seals are forced outwardly by hydraulic pressure when the door is closing. A one-way valve allows hydraulic fluid to bypass the orifice while the door is opening. The snubber requires less maintenance than previous friction snubbers.

  • Patent number: 5735069
Abstract: A frame assembly has a backing board and elongate frame members positioned end-to-end around the periphery of the backing board. Each frame number has an edge member, with a pair of limbs positioned on opposite sides of the edge of the backing board, and clamp elements. Each clamp element has a formation which urges the limbs apart to induce a stress in the edge member which, in turn, urges the clamp elements towards the backing board. The formations of the clamp elements and the complementary edge portions of the edge member define retaining formations which retain the clamp elements captive between the edge member and the board and permit pivotal displacement of the clamp elements. The clamp elements have gripping formations configured to facilitate displacement of the clamp elements from their closed positions towards their open positions.

Abstract: An improved log siding system capable of providing an improved water-shed between the individual log siding members as attached to a building. A moisture seal junction and a flex gap are formed between each adjacently disposed log siding member. Each moisture seal junction extends from the lower longitudinal edge of the exterior surface of each log siding member upward (vertically or angled inward) toward the respective flex gap, which extends therefrom toward the interior surface of the log siding members. The interspacing of each flex gap, in conjunction with a release cut formed in the interior surface of each log siding member, varies in response to structural deformations experienced by the log siding members due to variations in moisture content and/or temperature so as to maintain flush seal of each moisture seal junction. This effectively thwarts the ingress of moisture behind the log siding members so as to reduce the likelihood of swelling, rotting, and cracking over time.

Abstract: A tape applicator having a displaceable front contact roller movable from an extended position to a retracted position and a detector positioned on the tape applicator so that movement of the tape with the front roller relatively positions the detector and tape in sensing position wherein the detector may detect the presence or absence of a tape along a tape path leading to the front roller. The detector is only activated when the tape and detector are in the sensing positions permitting detection of the tape. This is preferably accomplished in a conventional tape applicator with a cutoff knife by mounting the detector on the cutoff mechanism so that both the detector and the tape are moved toward each other to assume the required relative positions wherein the detector can detect the tape and activate a warning system in the event no tape is detected. Also disclosed is a tape applicator having a detector to sense when the tape cutter has failed to cut the tape.

  • Patent number: 5735106
Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, products are contained within a continuous cylindrical sleeve in a low- or no-tension condition. Products are captured within the sleeve during its formation. The sleeve forms a continuous path encircling the product(s) in at least one plane through the products and package, defining an axial direction normal to the plane and a circumferential direction around the product(s) within the plane. One or more axially-extending pleats are unitarily formed from the material comprising the cylindrical wall of the sleeve, such that the circumference of the cylindrical sleeve is reduced. By reducing the circumference of the cylinder the interior volume of the sleeve, and thus the finished package, is reduced, thus subjecting the products within the package to a compressive force. The compressive force is imparted by a uniform reduction in circumference resulting in a uniform inwardly-directed product compression.
