  • Patent number: H1731
Abstract: The present invention provides a portable, disposable article for repelling insects. The article includes a fibrous substrate which can be impregnated with the insect repellent. In one embodiment, the fibrous substrate is disposed intermediate a porous cover and a barrier layer, and comprises fibers having external capillary channels. The porous cover can comprise an apertured plastic film having tapered apertures. The insect repellent can be contained in a breakable packet, such that when the breakable packet is broken, the insect repellent is directed through the fibrous substrate for release through the apertured film.

  • Patent number: RE35813
Abstract: A circuit for adding a resonance tone to a tone signal to be generated is provided. When a damper operator is not operated, the resonance tone is not added but an ordinary tone signal is generated. When the damper operator has been operated, the resonance tone is added so that a tone signal including the resonance tone is generated. An effect of a damper operator, i.e., loud pedal, in a piano, a natural musical instrument, is thereby simulated with high fidelity. The resonance tone may be produced by passing an ordinary tone signal through a filter. Alternatively, data obtained by sampling an actually produced tone of a piano, a natural musical instrument, when a damper operator, i.e., loud pedal, is ON may be stored in a memory and a resonance tone may be generated by reading out the stored data from the memory. The signal of the generated resonance tone may be sounded by itself or after mixing with an ordinary tone signal at a suitable mixing ratio.

  • Patent number: RE35815
Abstract: Preheated diluent and steam are introduced into a container containing waste material typically comprised of a sludge mixture of liquid and solid material including hydrocarbons. The material is thereby heated and its viscosity reduced to form a pumpable slurry. The slurry is pumped out of the container and its viscosity is adjusted to the optimum for separating the solids and liquids. The solids are then separated from the liquid, any valuable material in either the solids and the liquid are recovered and the rest disposed of.

  • Patent number: RE35816
Abstract: This method and apparatus optically samples numerous points on the surface of an object to remotely sense its shape utilizing two stages. The first stage employs a moveable non-contact scanner, which in normal operation sweeps a narrow beam of light across the object, illuminating a single point of the object at any given instant in time. The location of that point relative to the scanner is sensed by multiple linear photodetector arrays behind lenses in the scanner. These sense the location by measuring the relative angular parallax of the point. The second stage employs multiple fixed but widely separated photoelectronic sensors, similar to those in the scanner, to detect the locations of several light sources affixed to the scanner, thereby defining the absolute spatial positions and orientations of the scanner. Individual light sources are distinguished by time-multiplexing their on-off states.

  • Patent number: RE35818
Abstract: A non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery has a negative electrode, a positive electrode and a non-aqueous electrolyte with lithium ion conductivity. A composite oxide produced from a metal or a metalloid and lithium represented by composition formula Li.sub.x MO (where M represents metals or metalloids other than alkali metals, and x satisifies 0.ltoreq.x) is used as an active material of one or both of the negative electrode and the positive electrode. The battery exhibits a large charging/discharging capacity and a high energy density together with smaller polarization (internal resistance) on charging and discharging which facilitates a large current charging and discharging with a long cycle life and reduces deterioration due to excess charging and excess discharging.

  • Patent number: 5758377
Abstract: A clothes washing machine is provided with a wash tub and a perforated drum arranged therein. A recirculating pump pumps liquid contained in a conduit provided with a pressure switch in its lower portion, arranged under the tub, and directed again toward the interior of the drum. The machine is capable, at least in a rinse cycle, of filling a predetermined amount of water into the tub, to let the recirculating pump operate for a definite period of time so as to enable the water to be fully pumped into the drum. At the same time, the drum is caused to rotate at a low speed. A signal starting spin-extraction for a pre-defined period of time enables a lower water level to be restored in the tub. The initially filled-in water is let into the tub in such an amount that the upper edge of the liquid in the tub eventually remains constantly below the lower edge of the drum, such an alternate sequence of recirculation and spin-extraction phases being repeated several times.

Abstract: A machine for washing eggs (1) has a washing section with spray nozzles (23) and with a brush frame (12) carrying brushes facing down towards the conveyor and having an underside profiled according to the egg shape. The brush frame is suspended in a stationary machine frame and may be actuated by a drive (30,38) for reciprocating movement in both the longitudinal and the transverse directions of the conveyor so that the brushes are moved in a curved movement in relation to the conveyor and thus also in relation to the eggs, which results in a thorough cleansing of, particularly, the end areas of the eggs.

  • Patent number: 5758382
Abstract: An interdental toothbrush handle for holding a twisted wire brush includes a handle with a locking retainer connected thereto by a living hinge. The handle has two opposing side walls which extend perpendicularly from the handle and are adjacent to the living hinge. At least one of the walls includes a V-shaped gap for receiving the stem of a twisted wire brush. The handle also preferably has an indentation between the two opposing side walls and the locking retainer preferably includes a protrusion in communication with the indentation. A nub on the protrusion prevents the locking retainer from opening more than about 30.degree. to 40.degree.. The stem of a twisted wire brush is inserted into the V-shaped gap when the locking retainer is open. As the locking retainer is closed, the stem of the twisted wire brush is captured between the handle and locking retainer.

  • Patent number: 5758383
Abstract: A toothbrush having two head sections, the sections being normally biased to assume an angle with respect to each other, to thereby define a generally concave bristle tip configuration. The two sections of the head have facing ends joined by a thin bridge section integral with the two heads. In one embodiment, there is one bridge section near the lower surface of the head. In another embodiment, there are two longitudinally spaced bridge sections each near the lower head surface. In a third embodiment, the bridge section is a thin integral connection between facing ends of the two sections. In other embodiments, the two head sections are normally aligned and are also joined by a thin, integral bridge section, with the bristles of the head section most remote from the handle being of uniformly different lengths. The space between the two facing ends is filled with an elastomer, typically Santoprene (brand). The two head sections define an articulated head.

Abstract: The invention relates to a denture brush having a flat handle which projects substantially perpendicularly from the plane of the brush head. Finger grips are located on each side of the handle. In addition, the plane of the handle is offset 90.degree. from the plane of the bristles. This alignment allows the brush to be easily grasped while facilitating the brushing motion in alternate lateral directions in the plane of the bristles and parallel to the internal surface of the denture. The orientation of the finger grips with the bristles also facilitates the ease of applying brushing force directly downward through the brushing head to the denture surface.

  • Patent number: 5758385
Abstract: A cap for a broom has a shroud that simulates the appearance of the head of a straw broom and has front, rear, end and top walls defining an internal cavity. A cylindrical socket extends inwardly of the cavity from the top wall and may be threaded to receive the threaded end of a broom handle. A collar upstanding from the top wall provides additional support for the handle. An integrally moulded post projects into the cavity from the bottom of the socket and a nut, preferably a wing nut, is threadably secured to the post. The shroud can be filled with straws and a curable mass poured into the cavity to bind the straws together. The nut will be embedded within the curable mass as it cures and will prevent the mass and straws from coming out of the shroud during use.
