Abstract: An anti-snoring device including detachably attachable upper and lower trays selectively fitting over a person's upper and lower teeth. The trays are formed of a rigid plastic outer shell and include an inner thermoplastic moldable portion. Tongues are integrally formed with the rigid outer shells and extend from each of the upper and lower trays forwardly from the central portions of the upper and lower trays. The tongues are selectively detachably attachable to one another in a plurality of positions and for shifting the lower tray and jaw slightly forward from its normal position. Depressions are formed in the lower and upper trays which align and form breathing openings between the upper and lower trays on each side of the trays central portions. The trays posterior portions terminate prior to the person's molars or at about the person's premolars.

  • Patent number: 6170486
Abstract: An improved head immobilizer comprises a head support position for placement beneath an injured patient's head, two head support blocks and a forehead strap. The head support cushion is located beneath the head of a patient on a backboard. After the head support cushion is optimally positioned in reference to the patient, an adhesive system is activated to affix the cushion to the backboard. The head support blocks are placed on either side of the patient's head to immobilize it and are held in position by a hook in loop fastening system. Finally, a forehead strap is stretched from on block to the other across the patient's forehead to more completely immobilize the patient. The strap also uses a hook in loop fastener to attach to the head support blocks.

  • Patent number: 6170508
Abstract: A valve for regulating the rate of flow and/or the pressure of oil flowing to a transmission or another consumer in the power train of a motor vehicle has a piston which defines with the valve housing a chamber for one or more springs and for oil being admitted through a first inlet by way of a first conduit containing a first throttle. A second inlet admits pressurized oil from a pump, and such oil can be admitted into the consumer by way of a first outlet and a second conduit containing a second throttle and supplying oil to the first conduit. A second outlet can deliver oil from the second inlet to the sump in response to shifting of the piston. A hydraulic seal is established between the piston and the housing intermediate the chamber and the second outlet to prevent leakage of oil from the chamber into the second outlet. Oil leaking from the chamber could adversely influence the characteristics of oil flowing into the consumer.

  • Patent number: 6170513
Abstract: An inflation nozzle structure of an infatable envelope. The inflatable envelope is formed by two envelope membranes the peripheries of which are adhered to each other. The inner membranes are adhered to an edge of the envelope membranes and inward extend from the edge. The two inner membranes are adhered to each other to define an air passage serving as the inflation nozzle. An isolating membrane is sandwiched between the inner membranes near an outer opening of the air passage. Two faces of the isolating membrane are formed by two kinds of membranes with different melting points. When thermally pressed, one face with lower melting point of the isolating membrane is thermally adhered to inner wall of the air passage, while the other face with higher melting point is not adhered. Abstract: A shut-off device for selectively stopping the flow of conveyed loose bulk materials in a conveyor conduit includes a housing (2) with a flow passage (3) therethrough, and at least one shut-off element (4, 5) movably arranged in the housing. The at least one shut-off element (4, 5) is driven by at least one drive (7, 8) and is arranged in such a manner that it moves between a first open position in which the flow passage (3) is completely open, and a second nearly closed position in which the flow passage (3) is nearly but not completely closed. Namely, a flow gap (6) preferably having a dimension on the order of the particle size of the goods to be conveyed, remains open even when the shut-off element (4, 5) is in its most-closed position. Particles of the conveyed material become caught on or in the gap (6) to effectively close off and stop the flow of conveyed materials.

Abstract: A fast-acting valve includes a valve body and a spool slidably mounted within the valve body between first and second limit positions. Both the spool and the valve body have a flow passage which come into alignment with the valve spool at a position intermediate the first and second limit positions and spaced therefrom by a given distance. That given distance allows the spool member to accelerate in travel from the first and second limit positions to the valve open position so that the opening of the valve (and closing) occurs quite quickly. Reciprocating movement of the valve spool relative to the valve body can be provided by springs mounted in opposing ends of the valve body bore in cooperation with solenoids mounted on opposing sides of the valve body. The fast-acting valve may be modified into the form of poppet valve or a cartridge valve.

Abstract: A piezoelectric actuated poppet valve is disclosed. The piezoelectric valve generally includes a valve body having multiple passages that provide fluid flow paths through the valve body. Flow through the flow paths is controlled by the position of a poppet valve that is slidably received in a fluid-tight manner in an interior space within the valve body. A piezoelectric actuator is secured to the valve body and contacts the poppet valve. Actuation of the piezoelectric actuator moves the poppet valve within the interior space. Movement of the poppet valve within the interior space controls flow through the fluid flow paths in the valve body.
