Publication number: 20010029821Abstract: A novel method and apparatus for producing an endless flexible seamed belt using templates is disclosed. A first form of the template is a mask template with a template aperture in the form of a puzzle cut pattern to be used in combination with an excimer laser. The template is placed between the excimer laser source and the belt material to be cut. As the excimer laser traverses the width of the belt, the laser forms a puzzle cut pattern on the belt. A second form of the template is a punch and die having patterned edges in the form of a puzzle cut pattern with extremely small nodes and kerfs. The cutting tolerances of the patterned edges make it necessary to fix the punch with respect to the die so that there is no misalignment of the punch and die between cutting operations. This is accomplished by resiliently fixing the punch to the die, rather than having the punch attached to the force generating assembly as in normal punch and die assemblies.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 29, 2001Publication date: October 18, 2001Applicant: Xerox CorporationInventors: Robert C. U. Yu, William A. Hammond, Edward L. Schlueter, Constance J. Thornton

Publication number: 20010029822Abstract: A novel method and apparatus for producing an endless flexible seamed belt using a punch and die is disclosed. The punch and die have patterned edges in the form of a puzzle cut pattern with extremely small nodes and kerfs. The cutting tolerances of the patterned edges make it necessary to fix the punch with respect to the die so that there is no misalignment of the punch and die between cutting operations. This is accomplished by resiliently fixing the punch to the die, rather than having the punch attached to the force generating assembly as in normal punch and die assemblies. Belt material is positioned between a stock gap between the punch and die and the force generating assembly is activated to provide the cutting force. Once the belt material is cut, the cutting force is removed and the force generating assembly returns to its retracted position. There are two cutting edges on the punch and die so that a first end of one belt and a second end of another belt are formed in a single cutting operation.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 7, 2001Publication date: October 18, 2001Applicant: Xerox CorporationInventors: Edward L. Publication number: 20010029827Abstract: In a novel fret system for stringed musical instruments, the fret bar can be fabricated from standard square metal stock, typically of stainless steel. Each fret bar is retained in a corresponding transverse channel machined in the fingerboard surface region of the neck/fingerboard with a conforming cross-sectional shape that locates the main portion of the fret bar recessed into the neck/fingerboard with one corner portion extending through the channel opening in the fingerboard surface, thus forming a fret tip of desired height at the apex of a 90 degree angle. The fret bar is inserted endwise into its channel in the neck/fingerboard where it is retained securely. This system has proven beneficial both for the “feel” of playing the instrument in tapping and conventional modes and for precision and uniformity in manufacture.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 18, 2000Publication date: October 18, 2001Inventor: Emmett H. Publication number: 20010029844Abstract: A system and a method for recovering energy from a low temperature factory exhaust gas are disclosed. In the system, a heat exchanger is added between a wet scrubber and a cooling tower such that a low temperature scrubber exhaust gas can be utilized to decrease the temperature of a heat transfer medium used in the cooling tower. The lower temperature cooling tower water therefore increases the efficiency of cooling in a chiller connected to the cooling tower. Furthermore, the increased scrubber exhaust gas temperature reduces its opacity to fulfill requirement of environmental protection regulations. The lower water temperature in the cooling tower further reduces water evaporation rate and therefore reduces water consumption due to evaporation.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 11, 2001Publication date: October 18, 2001Applicant: Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., Ltd.Inventor: Chin-Hsien Chung
