Abstract: A printing press includes a plate cylinder, a plate making unit, and a detection unit. The plate cylinder is rotatably supported by a frame and has an outer surface on which a plate is mounted. The plate making unit is supported to be movable between an operative position where plate making is performed and a wait position to escape from the operative position to perform plate making for the plate. The plate making unit has an exposure unit and a support mechanism for supporting the exposure unit to be movable in an axial direction of the plate cylinder. The exposure unit has a head which irradiates the plate with a laser beam to print an image on the plate. The detection unit detects a position of the exposure unit with reference to the frame.

Abstract: A multi-color offset printing apparatus includes first and second plate cylinders 11 and 12 each having a plate mounted peripherally thereof, the plate defining two image areas, first and second blanket cylinders 13 and 14 equal in diameter to the first and second plate cylinders 11 and 12 and rotatable in contact with the first aid second plate cylinders 11 and 12, respectively, and an impression cylinder 15 having a gripper 83 disposed peripherally thereof for holding a forward end of printing paper, the impression cylinder 15 being rotatable in contact with the first and second blanket cylinders 13 and 14. In this multi-color offset printing apparatus, the impression cylinder 15 is rotated at least four times, with the printing paper held in place by the gripper 83, before starting a printing operation. This step creates a state of ink saturation on the first and second blanket cylinders 13 and 14 prior to the printing operation.

Also included is at least a pair of alignment designators that are positioned on the template of the sheet for marking the material. The markings facilitate alignment of the material in a support frame that is adapted for use when embroidering the pattern on the material.

Abstract: A surfboard-based powered water craft is propelled by gas or electric power plant. A water jet pump supplies water under pressure, which is exhausted through a steering nozzle. A steering shaft, carried by the surfboard-based body, pivots in response to movement of a steering arm. The steering arm pivots about a vertical axis and a horizontal axis. The weight of the power plant is carried forward the center, whereby a rider on top of the surfboard based body tends to balance the weight of the power plant.

Abstract: A method for forming low defect density epitaxial layers on lattice-mismatched substrates includes confining dislocations through interactions between the dislocations and the stress field in the epitaxial layer. This method is applicable to any heteroepitaxial material systems with any degree of lattice mismatch. The method includes choosing the desired epilayer and the top substrate layer for epitaxial growth, determining the lattice constant and thermal expansion coefficient of the final epilayer and the top substrate layer, bonding an additional substrate layer under the top substrate layer to form a composite substrate so that the desired epilayer has negative (positive) or zero thermal mismatch to the composite substrate if the lattice mismatch between the epilayer and the top substrate layer is positive (negative), and choosing a buffer layer to be deposited before the desired epilayer which is lattice matched to the epilayer.

Abstract: A first step models a hot zone in a pulling apparatus of a single crystal as a mesh structure, and a second step inputs physical property values of each member corresponding to meshes combined for each member of the hot zone into a computer. A third step obtains the surface temperature distribution of each member on the basis of the calorific power of a heater and the emissivity of each member, and a fourth step obtains the internal temperature distribution of each member on the basis of the surface temperature distribution and the thermal conductivity of each member, and then further obtains the internal temperature distribution of a molten liquid being in consideration of convection. A fifth step obtains the shape of the solid-liquid interface between the single crystal and the molten liquid in accordance with an isothermal line including a tri-junction of the single crystal. A sixth step repeats said third to fifth steps until the tri-junction becomes the melting point of the single crystal.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods for spray coating selected areas of a circuit board with a liquid coating material without coating regions of the circuit board to be left uncoated. In one mode of operation, a bead of liquid coating material dispensed from an elongated nozzle tip is atomized by directing jets of air pressurized against the bead to form a conical, swirling spray pattern which is sprayed on selected areas of a circuit board. In a second mode of operation, the non-atomized bead of liquid coating material dispensed through the elongated nozzle tip is applied on selected areas of the circuit board. In a third mode of operation, jets of pressurized air are directed against the bead of liquid coating material to create a soft swirl pattern, without atomizing the bead of coating materia. In a second embodiment of the invention, the bead of liquid coating material is dispensed from a nozzle without the elongated nozzle tip.
