Abstract: A method and apparatus for forming rivet joints with a desired amount of clearance to allow pivotal motion of the parts interconnected by such joints. Parts to be riveted together are aligned with each other, and a rivet is placed into aligned holes. A parts clamp urges the parts and a preformed head of the rivet against a rivet support anvil to establish an initial condition. A parts support anvil is placed in a required position with respect to the rivet support anvil prior to formation of the second head on the opposite end of the rivet, to provide the desired amount of clearance. The parts support anvil is moved by pushing against a set of arched leaf springs to adjust their effective length, using a hydraulic motor controlled in response to an electrical signal from a transducer that measures movement of parts by the parts support anvil.

The structured surfaces can be applied on many automobile components with frictional surfaces. The composite structure settles the usual conflicts between surface functions and stresses. Two sets of multiple-step processes are introduced to achieve high production efficiency and low cost. Unlike traditional surface technologies that generate single and uniform layers on the whole part surface, the new technology processes the part surface selectively for more effective surfaces with versatile functions.

Abstract: The invention relates to a web-guiding device comprising at least one directing element (10) for guiding a web in a contactless manner in a machine that is used for producing and/or treating a moved web of material (1), especially a paper or cardboard web. Said directing element (10) is provided with a directing surface (12) that is made at least in part of air-permeable porous material (14) which can be impinged upon by compressed air so as to form an air cushion (18) between the directing surface (12) and the moved web of material (1) via the air (16) flowing through said porous material (14). The directing surface (12) is divided into at least one web transfer zone (2, 4) and a web-guiding zone (3) along the direction of movement (2) of the web of material. Said zones (2, 4; 3) are embodied so as to allow for a different air throughput.

Abstract: A heat exchanger for a dryer includes a plurality of tube units configured to conduct warm humid air and a plurality of fin units configured to conduct a flow of ambient air. The tube units and fin units are alternately stacked to form a core. The fin units includes a plurality of air channels formed by repeatedly bending a flat metal plate in a zigzag fashion and a plurality of fins formed on surfaces of the air channels. The tube units have a duct form with both ends opened. The tube units may be formed by extrusion. A plurality of channel walls can be formed inside the tube units. A plurality of grooves or fins can also be formed inside the tube units. A plurality of channel walls can also be vertically formed inside the tube units. In this case, the grooves or fins can be formed on the channel walls. The grooves or fins can also be formed in a spiral form on the inner surfaces of the tube units.

Abstract: An automatic clothes dryer comprises a cabinet defining an interior space in which is rotatably mounted a drum that defines a drying chamber, a heater assembly having a heating element for heating air, and a motor for rotating the drum. A blower is mounted within the interior space and is fluidly coupled to the drying chamber for moving heated air through the drying chamber. A first temperature sensor is mounted upstream of the heating element. A second temperature sensor is mounted downstream of the blower. Outputs from the temperature sensors are utilized with one or more methods to determine the air flow characteristics through the dryer.

Abstract: A paper web drying apparatus is described as comprising a device for controlling an injection of air in a drying pocket of the drying apparatus. The web drying apparatus generally comprises at least three substantially axially parallel rotatable drying cylinders, first and third cylinders being vertically offset from a second cylinder and the web being consecutively trained thereover defining the pocket therebetween. The apparatus may define a traditional pocket, an offset pocket, or other such pocket configurations known in the art. The device comprises an elongated structure longitudinally mounted adjacent and substantially parallel to the first cylinder and between the first and the third cylinders.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method and system for ensuring that cavities used to store radioactive elements are adequately dried without intrusive measuring. In one aspect the invention is a system for drying a cavity loaded with radioactive elements, the loaded cavity having a free volume (VF), a starting vapor pressure (vPS), and a cavity pressure (PC), the system comprising: a non-reactive gas source adapted to supply a non-reactive gas to the system; means to cool a non-reactive gas to a temperature (TC) thereby drying the non-reactive gas; means to flow the dry non-reactive gas to the cavity, the flow means adapted to introduce the dry non-reactive gas to the cavity at a flow rate R for a period of time (t); and means to remove wet non-reactive gas from the cavity; wherein the non-reactive gas source, the cooling means, the flow means, the removal means, and the cavity are fluidly coupled; wherein TC and R are controlled to achieve a desired vapor pressure (vPD) in the cavity in time t.
