Publication number: 20060288562Abstract: A method and apparatus for forming rivet joints with a desired amount of clearance to allow pivotal motion of the parts interconnected by such joints. Parts to be riveted together are aligned with each other, and a rivet is placed into aligned holes. A parts clamp urges the parts and a preformed head of the rivet against a rivet support anvil to establish an initial condition. A parts support anvil is placed in a required position with respect to the rivet support anvil prior to formation of the second head on the opposite end of the rivet, to provide the desired amount of clearance. The parts support anvil is moved by pushing against a set of arched leaf springs to adjust their effective length, using a hydraulic motor controlled in response to an electrical signal from a transducer that measures movement of parts by the parts support anvil.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 31, 2006Publication date: December 28, 2006Inventor: Edwin Thompson

Publication number: 20060288604Abstract: A method for analysis of solvent evaporation patterns includes: continuously evacuating the gas of a single-component or multicomponent solvent evaporated under desired evaporation conditions from an object containing the single-component or multicomponent solvent housed in an airtight container, with evacuation means from the airtight container to an exhaust path connected to an exhaust port of the evacuation means; sampling a gas at predetermined time intervals from a desired point between the airtight container and the outlet of the exhaust path with the continuous evacuation maintained; measuring the solvent gas contained in the sampled gas; and determining an evaporation pattern of the solvent from the object under the desired evaporation conditions, from results of the measurement.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 8, 2004Publication date: December 28, 2006Applicant: Astellas Pharma Inc.Inventors: Koji Mukai, Fujio Ito, Satoru Takahashi

Publication number: 20060288605Abstract: An automatic clothes dryer comprises a cabinet defining an interior space in which is rotatably mounted a drum that defines a drying chamber, a heater assembly having a heating element for heating air, and a motor for rotating the drum. A blower is mounted within the interior space and is fluidly coupled to the drying chamber for moving heated air through the drying chamber. A first temperature sensor is mounted upstream of the heating element. A second temperature sensor is mounted downstream of the blower. Outputs from the temperature sensors are utilized with one or more methods to determine the air flow characteristics through the dryer.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 24, 2005Publication date: December 28, 2006Inventors: James Carow, Mark Glotzbach

Publication number: 20060288606Abstract: A paper web drying apparatus is described as comprising a device for controlling an injection of air in a drying pocket of the drying apparatus. The web drying apparatus generally comprises at least three substantially axially parallel rotatable drying cylinders, first and third cylinders being vertically offset from a second cylinder and the web being consecutively trained thereover defining the pocket therebetween. The apparatus may define a traditional pocket, an offset pocket, or other such pocket configurations known in the art. The device comprises an elongated structure longitudinally mounted adjacent and substantially parallel to the first cylinder and between the first and the third cylinders.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 27, 2005Publication date: December 28, 2006Inventor: Dominique Thifault

Publication number: 20060288607Abstract: The present invention provides a method and system for ensuring that cavities used to store radioactive elements are adequately dried without intrusive measuring. In one aspect the invention is a system for drying a cavity loaded with radioactive elements, the loaded cavity having a free volume (VF), a starting vapor pressure (vPS), and a cavity pressure (PC), the system comprising: a non-reactive gas source adapted to supply a non-reactive gas to the system; means to cool a non-reactive gas to a temperature (TC) thereby drying the non-reactive gas; means to flow the dry non-reactive gas to the cavity, the flow means adapted to introduce the dry non-reactive gas to the cavity at a flow rate R for a period of time (t); and means to remove wet non-reactive gas from the cavity; wherein the non-reactive gas source, the cooling means, the flow means, the removal means, and the cavity are fluidly coupled; wherein TC and R are controlled to achieve a desired vapor pressure (vPD) in the cavity in time t.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 27, 2006Publication date: December 28, 2006Inventor: Krishna Singh

Publication number: 20060288610Abstract: A convertible sandal comprises a vamp extending over a forefoot portion of the wearer's foot and first and second connectors located along respective medial and lateral sides of the vamp adjacent a rear margin of the vamp. A strap is secured to the connectors and movable selectively between a first position, in which the strap extends behind a heel of the wearer's foot, and a second position, in which the strap extends over the wearer's forefoot. The connectors may include elongated eyelets through which first and second end sections of the strap are threaded and then folded back against the strap for securing the strap to the connectors. In some embodiments a holder is provided for securing the straps across the forefoot or for connecting the sandal to a second sandal or another item using the strap.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 19, 2005Publication date: December 28, 2006Applicant: Columbia Sportswear North America, Inc.Inventors: Daniel Laska, Nicholas Staub

Publication number: 20060288611Abstract: A shoe provides a suspended orthotic system that includes at least a contoured, three-dimensional chassis configured with a heel cup. The chassis provides the primary support and determines the shape and form of the shoe. The chassis receives a footbed, which includes a first material integrally formed with a second material, both materials operating to provide an orthotic benefit. A shoe sole includes a number of pods that are selectively arranged and coupled to the chassis to actively suspend the chassis and the footbed. The shoe can further include a dynamic arch support system that manually or automatically adjusts the arch region of the shoe. The shoe may be more comfortable, provide biomechanical advantages, be lighter, and be more stylish than traditional shoes.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 27, 2005Publication date: December 28, 2006Inventor: Patrick Hogan
