  • Patent number: RE40880
Abstract: A virtual data input device to optically interface with an operator to detect the position of objects within an input zone, i.e., an area defined as a “virtual keyboard” in which the operator may interact to enter character or other data into computing equipment. The input device includes a source of optical sensor light illuminating the input zone that reflects off the objects in a direction generally toward the input device. The device also includes an optical detector arranged to receive reflected sensor light as a light pattern, representing the position of the objects within the input zone, and converts the reflected light pattern to an electrical signal. A microprocessor then receives the electrical signal and correlates the electrical signal to character or other data. An image generator may be used to project an optical image that represents, for example, an image of a keyboard.

  • Patent number: RE40883
Abstract: A reconfigurable register file integrated in an instruction set architecture capable of extended precision operations, and also capable of parallel operation on lower precision data is described. A register file is composed of two separate files with each half containing half as many registers as the original. The halves are designated even or odd by virtue of the register addresses which they contain. Single width and double width operands are optimally supported without increasing the register file size and without increasing the number of register file ports. Separate extended registers are also employed to provide extended precision for operations such as multiply-accumulate operations.

  • Patent number: 7578010
Abstract: A recessed incrementally rotating nozzle assembly is located in a wall or bottom surface of a swimming pool in fluid communication through a conduit with a source of water under pressure from a valve, which valve periodically releases water into the conduit. Each time water flows, a nozzle housing is raised to eject a stream of water. As the nozzle housing rises, it is incrementally rotated by a pin engaging a saw tooth member of a cam ring. Upon cessation of flow, the nozzle housing is retracted and during retraction the nozzle housing is further incrementally rotated by the pin engaging another saw tooth member of the cam ring. After a predetermined degree of angular rotation, a cam reverser slidably reorients protrusions guiding the pin into and out of the saw tooth members to cause the pin to be guided by the opposite side of the saw tooth members and thereby cause reversal of the direction of rotation of the nozzle housing.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a door check mechanism providing infinite stable positions with applications more specifically in the area of motor vehicles, comprising on the one hand an articulated guiding arm (1), mounted to the vehicle body or to the door, and on the other hand a mechanism (9), mounted to the other part, either the door or the vehicle body, in such a way that guiding arm (1) penetrates through mechanism (9) with a relative displacement between these two parts, the wedging function resulting from a blocking of guiding arm (1) by mechanism (9). Mechanism (9) comprises a carriage device (2), including 2 braking-rollers (21) and (22), held against each other as well as against guiding arm (1), in order to ensure the wedging function.

  • Patent number: 7578030
Abstract: A hinge mechanism includes a shaft (1), a cam follower (12), a cam (2), an antifriction member (3), a washer (4) and an elastic member (5). The cam follower is fixed relative to the shaft and has a cam follower surface. The cam has a cam surface (24) and a cam hole defined therein. The cam is rotatable relative to the cam follower. The shaft runs through the cam, the washer and the elastic member, in turn. The antifriction member has one end touching the cam and an opposite end touching the washer. The cam surface abuts against the cam follower surface due to the elastic force of the elastic member. As the friction coefficient between the antifriction member and washer is smaller than that between the cam and the washer, the hinge mechanism generates a smaller friction therebetween, so the waste of energy is very small.

  • Patent number: 7578031
Abstract: A hinge structure includes a knuckle having inner and outer surfaces, the inner surface being punched to protrude outwardly thereby forming a working surface defining a working region and a locking surface defining a locking region in spatial communication with the working region. The knuckle further has a slot axially extending through the inner and outer surfaces at the working region to provide resiliency thereof. A pivot shaft extends into the working region, and has a locking section and a working section. A roller unit is disposed within the locking region in such a manner to contact the shaft. When the locking section is aligned with the roller unit, the shaft is locked to the knuckle due to biasing action of the locking surface. When the working section is aligned with the roller unit, the shaft possesses a torque due to biasing action of the knuckle.

  • Patent number: 7578032
Abstract: An angle-limiting hinge has a stationary leaf, a pivoting leaf, a pintle and a limiting element. The pintle is mounted statically in the stationary leaf and rotatably in the pivoting leaf, thereby allowing the leaves to rotate relative to each other and the pintle has a limit. The limit is C-shaped, formed diametrically around the pintle and comprises two ends being positive stops. The limiting element is mounted around the pintle and is secured to the pivoting leaf and has a limiting block mounted securely in the limiting element using riveting. The limiting block is disposed between the positive stops of the limit to limit relative rotational angles of the leaves. Accordingly, the angle-limiting hinge fastens and facilitates fabrication and is capable of limiting the rotational angle of the leaves.

  • Patent number: 7578034
Abstract: A collar stay perforating device for perforating a portion of a collar stay and a collar stay storage device for storing the perforated collar stay are provided. The collar stay perforating device comprises a base member having a punch hole and a guide to receive an end of a collar stay. A first lever member pivotally attached to the base member has a punch member that cooperates with the punch hole. A second lever member pivotally attached to the base member bears on the first lever member to bring the punch member into cooperation with the punch hole thereby perforating the collar stay. The perforated collar stay may then be stored on a collar stay storage device comprising an openable ring member having releaseably engageable arms for forming a closed loop. The ring is openable permitting one of the arms to be inserted through the perforated collar stay thereby providing ordered and compact storage of collar stays.

Abstract: In an elevator installation, an apparatus and a method use a support end connection for fastening a support device to an elevator car, a counterweight and/or a building. The support device has at least one cable or cable strand enclosed by a cable casing and is held in a wedge pocket by a wedge. The cable casing is formed of thermoplastic material or an elastomer and the cable or the cable strand is glued to, fused together with or mechanically connected with the cable casing in the region of the support end connection. A friction force transmitted from the support end connection to the cable casing can then be directly passed on to the load-bearing core of the support device, to the cables or to the cable strands. The tolerable tension force in the support device is increased. The support device is preferably a multiple cable.

  • Patent number: 7578037
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for fixing a tool (10, 22, 64), especially a shaft tool, in a clamping chuck (8, 18, 60), whereby the tool (10, 22, 64) is introduced into the clamping chuck (8, 18, 60) and fixed therein (8, 18, 60) upon reaching an axial nominal position. According to the invention, the tool (10, 22, 64) is brought against an abutment (42, 70) and the position of a characteristic element of the tool (10, 22, 64) is measured. The tool (10, 22, 64) is positioned in the axial nominal position by moving the abutment (42, 70) along a positioning section (Z1) calculated from the measurement.
