  • Patent number: 7578048
Abstract: According to embodiments of the present invention, a method for manufacturing a pattern of conductive elements on a substrate is provided. The method includes depositing in a vacuum deposition chamber an electrically conductive material onto the substrate to form a base layer. Then, the method includes selectively applying an electric insulating agent on selective areas of the base layer. Then, areas of the base layer that are not covered with the insulating material are electroplated with a second electrically conductive layer. The electric insulating agent is then removed from the substrate and the base layer is chemically etched thus removing the base layer that was covered with the insulating material and selectively exposing the substrate to create the pattern of conductive objects on the substrate.

  • Patent number: 7578049
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a write pole for a perpendicular magnetic write head. The method includes forming a mask structure over a full film layer of magnetic write pole material. A layer of hard mask material such as conformally deposited alumina is then deposited full film over the mask and write pole material. An ion mill, such as in an Ar or CHF3 chemistry is then used to preferentially remove horizontally disposed portions of the alumina layer (hard mask layer), thereby forming vertical hard mask walls at the sides of the mask structure. An ion mill is then used to form the write pole, with the alumna side walls providing excellent masking for forming well defined write pole edges. A relatively gentle clean up process can then be performed to remove the remaining mask material and side walls.

  • Patent number: 7578050
Abstract: A switch to be used mainly for controlling a variety of electronic devices in automobiles, and a method of manufacturing the same switch are disclosed for providing a switch free from positional deviation in its display section and easy to manufacture. Operating units having no display sections are mounted to a housing, then the shapes of each one of the operating units are recognized by a control circuit. An upper jig and a lower jig are moved for a laser beam device to remove a non-translucent section and expose parts of a translucent section, thereby forming the display sections. This structure allows eliminating positional deviation of the display sections and also requiring no visual checks done for confirming the display sections in manufacturing.

  • Patent number: 7578051
Abstract: A press machine for press fit assembly of a torsion bar to a pinion gear of a power steering system includes a controller and a support structure. A first holder supports a pinion gear, and a second holder supports a torsion bar of a spool-valve assembly of a power steering system. The press machine also includes a sensor adapted to determine a position of a torsion bar in the second holder relative to a pinion gear in the first holder. At least one powered actuator is connected to the support structure and the first or second holders. The powered actuator provides controlled translational and rotational motion to press fit a pinion gear to a torsion bar. The controller causes the powered actuator to rotate one of the holders relative to the other of the holders based, at least in part, upon the position of the torsion bar relative to the pinion gear to thereby provide proper alignment of the torsion bar and pinion gear upon completion of the press fit operation.

  • Patent number: 7578054
Abstract: In a linear driving mechanism for electronic component mounting apparatus that performs mounting operation for mounting an electronic component on a substrate and linearly drives a transfer beam 8 in a Y direction using a linear motor, an object to be driven and the linear motor are disposed such that a position P of thrust generated by the linear motor for driving the transfer beam 8 in the Y direction approximately corresponds to a central position D1 of inertial resistance of the object to be driven comprising movable portions such as transfer beam 8, loading head 9, and transfer plate 12. Accordingly, twisting moment applied to the transfer beam 8 due to inertial force is eliminated in acceleration/deceleration, and loading position accuracy is ensured and a component life can be lengthened.

  • Patent number: 7578063
Abstract: A self-contained vacuum circular saw is presented. The vacuum saw has a casing around the saw blade that includes an accordion type lower section attached to the lower platform of the saw. A number of vacuum tubes, preferably four, are attached to the side of the circular saw opposite the blade. The armature of the circular saw that turns the blade also turns the vacuum impeller on the side opposite the blade. An impeller vacuum chamber pulls in the dust and debris created by the saw blade and discharges the dust and debris into a disposable and removable vacuum bag. An important aspect of this device is that the motor that turns the saw blade also turns the impeller, thus making the self-contained vacuum saw moveable from site to site.

Abstract: An article of footwear has ventilation and shock absorption provided by a mechanism which may be constructed within or added to the footwear. A first chamber beneath the heel draws external air through a conduit which includes a one-way valve. As a wearer walks, the heel compresses the first chamber, forcing the air through a special second valve causing directional airflow to a second chamber in a controlled manner thereby absorbing the shock of the heel strike in the same manner a shock absorber functions in an automobile. As weight is transferred from the heel to the ball of the foot, further cushioning is provided by the second chamber. Specifically designed vents connected to the second chamber allow air to be forced into the region of the shoe around the foot. Expansion of the air from these vents affects cooling and drying of the foot through evaporation and convection.

Abstract: A shoe is described having a removable heel, removable platform, and in some embodiments one or more removable straps. The removable shoe provides for flexibility in design with the same sole by allowing for replacement of one type of heel with another and in some shoes replacement of the strap or straps by alternate styles or colors of straps. The replaceability or modularity of the heel and straps allows for compact storage as well, which is desirable during travel. The removeability of the platform enables the shoe to adjust to different heights. Additionally, some embodiments have one or more hinges formed in the sole to allow the shoe to collapse to an even smaller size for storage or travel.

Abstract: A shoe sole construction adapted to absorb and store impact energy and including a shoe sole that has a heel portion and a forefoot portion. The forefoot portion includes the toe of the sole. The shoe sole includes a base member and at least one pressure plate for receiving a wearer's foot. A first pivot is disposed between the base member and the pressure plate. The first pivot is disposed at the toe of the sole. A bladder is provided to receive and store impact energy delivered thereto, and is disposed at the heel portion of the shoe sole and positioned to be compressed under the impact energy imposed thereupon by the pressure plate. A locking mechanism is disposed at the forefoot portion, between the base member and pressure plate. The locking mechanism is responsive to a compression of the bladder and released during the propulsive phase of the wearer's gait to return stored energy for release during the propulsive phase.
