Abstract: Systems and methods are described which allow the detection of gaps in a set of data. These systems and methods may include defining streams of data from a network topology, associating incoming data with one or more of these streams, and processing these streams. A gap may be detected by comparing the times of events in the stream. If a gap is detected remedial action may be taken, and processing of the streams temporarily halted. Processing of the streams may continue when data for a certain stream is received, or after the lapse of a certain period of time.

Abstract: This is a method of automatically tracking and displaying “Search Histories” inline within the context of an Internet research project. Links to context specific history listings can be displayed contextually within a block diagram and/or within a list. This contextual view of histories facilitates finding and quickly returning to a previously visited web pages. The detailed information about these pages contained in the history pages further facilitates finding the web page of interest. These tools are particularly helpful in the context of an Internet research project.

Abstract: Methods and systems for monetizing editorial and user-generated content via conversion into affiliate marketing links. Aspects of the disclosure, for example, are directed to methods and systems configured to enable rewriting of URLs based on a synchronized database of merchants collected from a breadth of affiliate networks. In several embodiments, for example, upon posting of a URL to a user-generated website or on clicking of a URL on such a site by a user, the server system compares the domain name of the URL against a database of merchants synchronized across multiple affiliate networks. When a merchant's domain name is found, the server system may convert the URL using a deep linking syntax outlined in the merchant database so that the URL becomes an affiliate link that leads to the original URL via the corresponding affiliate network. User clicks on this converted URL may generate affiliate commissions.

Abstract: Managing diagram elements in a drawing becomes more challenging as the number of diagram elements increases. Placing a new diagram element in a drawing often requires manual movement of one or more other diagram elements within the drawing. Functionality can be implemented within a drawing application to automatically manage diagram elements in a drawing by applying layouts to sets of diagram elements. A drawing tool can associate a set of diagram elements and assigns them a exclusive area or region in the drawing space. Since a layout occupies an exclusive area, the drawing tool can manage the drawing space by automatically moving elements within a first layout when overlap with a second layout is detected. Managing drawing spaces with layouts reduces time spent adjusting diagram elements as a result of applying operations to other elements.

Abstract: Manually changing properties of each diagram element placed in a drawing becomes tedious. A significant amount of time is spent manually customizing diagram elements creating or editing a drawing. Functionality can be implemented within a drawing application to allow automatic diagram element customization based on a set of diagram element policies. Diagram policies specify conditions for customizing properties of a diagram element. Automatic customization of diagram elements reduces time spent creating drawings because diagram elements will be placed in a drawing in their desired configurations.

Abstract: A spreadsheet system stores objects and formulas in the cells of the spreadsheet, along with metadata tags. Each cell may contain multiple objects (such as a group of photos). Drag-and-drop user actions automatically change tags associated with the moved objects based on a formula stored in the target cell if a forcing semantics mode is active, or automatically change a formula stored in the target cell if a non-forcing semantics mode is active. A formula in a cell selects a set of objects and may include set operators such as union, intersection, and minus. The formula may also filter sets to select a subset based on specified tag attributes of objects. The display of the spreadsheet adaptively selects a subset of objects to render in a cell and appropriately scales photos for optimal viewing.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a network-based method and system for filtering a junk message. The method includes the following procedures: word-segmenting a target message to obtain characteristic elements within the target message; obtaining probabilities of the characteristic elements in the target message according to a predefined keyword library, the keyword library being updated periodically; and accumulating the probabilities of the characteristic elements in the target message, comparing accumulated probabilities with a predetermined threshold, and concluding the target message is a junk message if the result is greater than the predetermined threshold. Using a predefined keyword library for verification of a target message avoids time delay and system resource waste caused by massive and complicated computations during message verification in existing technologies, thus satisfying the requirement of real-time filtering of junk messages.

The user interface can be arranged to activate from a user's “home page” on the display, from an idle screen that is accessed after a timeout period expires, or any other appropriate mechanism that activates the preferred contact group centric experience. A user selects the preferred contact group from among an array of the user's contacts. Once the contact group is configured, a minimal number of navigation/selection features is necessary to activate any number of communication modes available to the contacts. The contact group is configured such that simple and quick navigation between the contact members is achieved. The contact group can be presented in 2D and 3D arrangements, in any number of list or geometric configurations. A pricing plan can optionally be tied to each member of the contact group.

Abstract: A system and method for interfacing a Web browser widget with social indexing is provided. Electronically-stored articles and a plurality of social indexes that are each associated with a social community are maintained. Each social index includes topics that each relate to at least one such article and a topic model for each topic. A widget remotely executing on a Web browser is interfaced and a request identifying one such social community is accepted. A Web page currently in view on the Web browser is identified and content included in the Web page is obtained. The social index for the social community is obtained. The topic models in the social index are evaluated against the content. Topically-relevant information based on the topics in the social index corresponding to those of the topic models matched to the content is selected. The topically-relevant information is provided to the widget arranged for presentation.

Abstract: An embodiment is directed to displaying information to a user of a communications device. The communications device receives a query including a social parameter, a temporal parameter and a spatial parameter relative to the user that are indicative of a desired visual representation of a set of data objects. The communications device determines degrees to which the social, temporal and spatial parameters of the query are related to each of the set of data objects in social, temporal and spatial dimensions, respectively. The communications device displaying a first visual representation of at least a portion of the set of data objects to the user based on whether the determined degrees of relation in the social dimension, temporal dimension and spatial dimension satisfy the respective parameters of the query.

Abstract: Methods for configuring website categorisation software, categorising websites and a method and system for controlling access to websites. A number of websites are selected, all of which relate to a single predetermined category of subject matter. In order to create a category profile, a website is selected from the set (3), the website markup language is read (5), page content information extracted (7) and then analysed (9). The system may then check whether it has analysed a sufficient number of websites to allow for a reliable categorisation of subsequent websites (13). Individual websites are categorised by extracting their page content information (45) and categorising (51) on the basis of the degree of similarity between the information and the category profile (55). To control access, the system compares a website identifier with the database of categorised identifiers.
