Abstract: A system and method for separating bias instability of MEMS inertial instruments such as gyroscopes or accelerometers from the instrument signal, in which the inertial measurement instrument has an input axis and an output signal, and the bias instability has a frequency. The instrument is rotated about a rotation axis that is orthogonal to the input axis, at a frequency that is greater than the bias instability frequency. The instrument output signal is detected, and demodulated with a phase-sensitive detection method referenced to the instrument rotation.

Abstract: A piezoelectric acceleration sensor comprises a piezoelectric element, a metallic sheet and a circuit board. The piezoelectric element is polarized in a predetermined direction. The circuit board includes a circuit portion and a roughly flat shaped base portion. The base portion protrudes from an end portion of the circuit portion. One of surfaces of the metallic sheet is fixed to and supported by a surface of the base portion. The piezoelectric element is fixed to and supported by a remaining one of the surfaces of the metallic sheet in a manner that the piezoelectric element and the base portion do not overlap each other in the predetermined direction.

Abstract: A rig for studying a component has a component support for mounting the component. A speaker applies sound energy to airfoils in the component. A vibrometer studies the effect of the applied sound on the airfoils. At least two of the vibrometer, the component support, and the speaker are rotatable relative to each other. In a separate feature, a vibrometer for studying the effect of sound energy on airfoils in a component is provided with a vision system. The vision system is operable to identify the exact location at which the laser is studying the effect on the airfoil. Methods are also disclosed.
