Abstract: A washing machine includes a laundry drum which is rotatably mounted inside a tub. The tub is connected in a fixed manner within a surrounding housing. The axis of rotation of the laundry drum is variable in height with respect to the tub. Elastic elements are positioned outside the tub to suspend the laundry drum together with a drive unit within the housing in an oscillating manner. The presence of a relatively high water consumption of the washing machine can be avoided and the relative position of the laundry drum with respect to the tub can be adjusted by providing a position-adjusting device, by which the height and/or the angle of the axis of rotation can be adjusted within limits, and which engages with a part that is connected in a fixed manner to the bearing for the drive shaft of the laundry drum.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a sample introducing apparatus which is designed such that the analytical flow path runs from the needle to the separation column without the flow path switching means placed at the downstream side of the needle. This design reduces dead volume, which in turn reduces the diffusion of the sample injected into the analytical flow path. Moreover, the absence of the flow path switching means at the downstream side of the needle to inject a sample into the analytical flow path eliminates connection of the pipe with the flow path switching means. This prevents the sample from remaining in the connecting part, thereby reducing sample carry-over and improving the accuracy of analysis.

Abstract: A method of detecting activity with a MEMS accelerometer stores a value of acceleration, then measures acceleration at a later time, calculates a change in acceleration using the measured acceleration and the stored acceleration, and compares the change in acceleration to an activity threshold to detect activity. A method of detecting inactivity uses a similar technique along with a timer. The method of detecting inactivity with a MEMS accelerometer stores an acceleration value, then measures acceleration at a later time, calculates a change in acceleration using the measured acceleration and the stored acceleration, and compares the change in acceleration to an inactivity threshold. If the change in acceleration is less than the inactivity threshold and, if a predetermined period of time has elapsed, then inactivity is detected.
