Abstract: The present apparatus and method relates in general to sealing a hole in a floor with a precast plug. A precast plug is created by pouring a wet aggregate mix into a form mold and thereafter inserting a pre bent rod into the uncured mixture, positioning it such that the center of the rod rests in the center of the form mold and the ends of the rod extend outward near the top of the form mold. The mix is then cured. The precast plug may then be transported to the hole that it is destined to fix. Grooves may be carved on either side of the hole to accommodate the rod's ends. The interior of the hole and the exterior of the plug may then be covered with a sealant, after which the plug may be inserted into the hole. Once the sealant cures, the hole is fully repaired.

Abstract: An exhaust treatment system for an engine includes a regeneration device being in receipt of exhaust from the engine and positioned upstream of a diesel particulate filter. A compressor provides a source of compressed air. An air/fuel nozzle is coupled to the regeneration device, in receipt of a fuel supply as well as the compressed air. The fuel and compressed air are forced through an orifice of the nozzle to atomize the fuel. A bypass line provides compressed air from the compressor to the regeneration device without passing through the orifice of the nozzle. A valve is operable to allow compressed air to flow through the bypass line when a predetermined condition exists.

Abstract: An internal combustion engine includes a particulate filter that is configured to treat exhaust gas. A method for monitoring the particulate filter includes employing a soot sensor to monitor the exhaust gas downstream of the particulate filter. A fault is detected in the particulate filter when accumulated soot mass indicated by the soot sensor exceeds a soot mass threshold over a course of engine operation between a first regeneration event and a second regeneration event of the particulate filter. A control module associated with operation of the internal combustion engine is notified of the fault.

Abstract: An object of the invention is to enhance the exhaust gas purification rate and to reduce the possibility of breakage of a heater element in an electric heating catalyst (EHC) by generating heat by the heater element in a improved manner. A pair of electrodes including surface electrodes 7a extending in the axial and circumferential directions of the heater element along the outer circumferential surface of said heater element are provided in such a way as to be opposed to each other on the heater element located therebetween. The surface electrodes 7a are adapted in such a way that current flowing between the surface electrodes 7a flows mainly on the outer circumferential surface of the heater element in a part of the heater element with respect to the axial direction and flows mainly in an inner portion of the heater element in another part of the heater element with respect to the axial direction.

Abstract: The present invention is intended to achieve improvement in an exhaust gas purification rate as well as suppression of breakage or damage of a heater element in an electric heating catalyst (EHC), by causing the heater element to generate heat in a more suitable manner. In an EHC according to the present invention, a pair of surface electrodes (7a) are formed in such a manner that they extend spirally from one end toward the other end of a heater element (3), which is formed into a cylindrical shape, along an outer circumferential surface of the heater element (3), and mutually cross each other while sandwiching the heater element (3) therebetween. Moreover, the width in each of the surface electrodes (7a) in the vicinity of their ends which are in contact with circumferences of end faces of the heater element (3) is enlarged.

Abstract: The invention relates to engine construction, in particular to systems for regulating internal combustion engines. The invention makes it possible to reduce the toxicity of exhaust gases. A four-stroke reciprocating internal combustion engine is equipped with a vacuum valve. During the discharging of the exhaust gases, a vacuum pump pumps combustion products out of the cylinder via the vacuum valve. First of all, a discharge valve is opened, and the vacuum valve is opened later, after complete (or partial) closing of the discharge valve, and the vacuum valve is closed later on or at the same time as an inlet valve opens. The vacuum valve is situated in the exhaust pipe, and an additional shut-off valve is mounted downstream of said vacuum valve, along the path of the exhaust gases, the shut-off valve connecting the exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold or disconnecting the exhaust pipe therefrom.
