Running Length Work Patents (Class 118/405)
  • Patent number: 11300749
Abstract: Before pulling a leading end of a fiber optic cable through a duct in order to splice the cable fibers to other fibers located at a far end of the duct, the outer jacket of the cable and elements surrounding the cable fibers are removed to expose the fibers. The exposed fibers are prepared by (a) removing coatings on the fibers, (b) cleaving the ends of the fibers, and (c) placing the cleaved fibers into one or more protective covers. A cable grip or sock is dimensioned and formed to envelop the leading end of the cable including the protective covers, up to and including the outer jacket. The grip together with the cable are pulled through the duct, and the grip and the protective covers are removed at the far end of the duct to expose the cleaved fibers for splicing to the other fibers at the far end.

  • Patent number: 10888894
Abstract: A method of applying a coating liquid to an optical fiber is described. An optical fiber is drawn through a guide die into a pressurized coating chamber and through the pressurized coating chamber to a sizing die. The pressurized coating chamber contains a coating liquid. The method includes directing coating liquid in a direction transverse to the processing pathway of the optical fiber in the pressurized coating chamber. The transverse flow of coating liquid counteracts detrimental effects associated with gyres that form in the pressurized coating chamber during the draw process. Benefits of the transverse flow include removal of bubbles, reduction in the temperature of the gyre, improved wetting, homogenization of the properties of the coating liquid in the pressurized coating chamber, and stabilization of the meniscus.

  • Patent number: 10676845
Abstract: A composite rod for use in various applications, such as electrical cables (e.g., high voltage transmission cables), power umbilicals, tethers, ropes, and a wide variety of other structural members, is provided. The rod includes a core that is formed from a plurality of unidirectionally aligned fiber rovings embedded within a thermoplastic polymer matrix. The present inventors have discovered that the degree to which the rovings are impregnated with the thermoplastic polymer matrix can be significantly improved through selective control over the impregnation process, and also through control over the degree of compression imparted to the rovings during formation and shaping of the rod, as well as the calibration of the final rod geometry. Such a well impregnated rod has a very small void fraction, which leads to excellent strength properties. Notably, the desired strength properties may be achieved without the need for different fiber types in the rod.

The adhesive component is activated by an agent or medium that is associated with the applicator tool. The line becomes non-tacky after it is attached to the target surface.

  • Patent number: 8402913
Abstract: A drywall hopper assembly that contains a double blade that can apply drywall mud to both interior and exterior drywall corners with no blade change. A zigzag blade can contain two grooves, one for interior corners and one for exterior corners. With this blade arrangement, an operator can quickly move from one type of corner to another without using multiple tools, multiple blades or hand application methods to apply mud. The present invention can contain a pliable release port to present mud equally to an interior or an exterior corner. There can be such a port on both the top and bottom of the blade so that mud is smoothly applied as trim moves through the hopper or the hopper is moved along the trim.
