  • Patent number: 7946245
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for the hot-dip coating of a metal strip (1), more particularly of a steel band, in which the metal strip (1) is guided vertically through a container (3) containing the molten coating metal (2) and through an upstream guide channel (6), in the vicinity of which, on both sides of the metal strip (1), are arranged at least two inductors (8) for generating an electromagnetic field for holding the coating metal (2) in the container (3), a furnace chamber (9), which contains guide means and has a protective gas atmosphere, being located upstream of the guide channel (6). In order to ensure a good, durable seal between the guide channel (6) and the furnace chamber (9) under the established conditions, the invention proposes that a gas-tight, heat-resistant and flexible seal (13) be arranged between the furnace chamber (9) and the guide channel (6).

  • Patent number: 7926442
Abstract: A container is provided having a periphery and a base, which enclose a cavity. The periphery and the base are connected together, the periphery upwardly extending from the base. The periphery has a first slot and a substantially opposing second slot. Each of the first and second slots is sized to permit a first end of a tape located on a roll to be slid through it. A tape holder may be connected to the container so that the tape holder lies outside of the cavity of the container. The roll of tape can be placed on the tape holder so when the tape is pulled through the “mud box”, the tape is thereby unwound. As the tape is manually pulled through the “mud box”, joint compound is thinly applied to one side of the tape. As this is done, the joint compound begins to “adhere” to the tape, conditioning the tape for excellent wall adhesion.

  • Patent number: 7361224
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for hot dip coating metal strands (1), particularly strip steel, in which the metal strand (1) can be vertically guided through a reservoir (3), which accommodates the molten coating metal (2), and though a guide channel (4) connected upstream therefrom. An electromagnetic inductor (5) is mounted in the area of the guide channel (4) and in order to retain the coating metal (2) inside the reservoir (3), can induce induction currents in the coating metal (2) by means of an electromagnetic blocking field. While interacting with the electromagnetic blocking field, said induction currents exert an electromagnetic force. In particular, a mains frequency of 50 Hz is intended.

The nozzle lips are surrounded to 80% of their total length—starting from the nozzle opening (15, 15a)—by the sump (6, 6a).

The coating dies and the take-up mechanisms are rotatably displaced relative to each other about a longitudinal axis through the centerline of the curing zone so that the fibers at an intermediate location between the coating dies and the take-up mechanisms define a cylindrical volume having a diameter less than the diameter of the tube so that the multiple fibers can pass simultaneously through the tube.

Abstract: An applicator for the deposition of size and other coating compositions onto the surfaces of reinforcing fibers, such as glass. The device may be used to apply aqueous or non-aqueous size to continuously formed fiber materials in a high speed forming process. The applicator may include an atomizing spray pre-applicator in combination with a slide-die applicator. The atomizing spray pre-applicator can be connected to a vacuum source, which increases contact of the spray with the fibers, and thereby improves coating coverage. The slide-die applicator may include a slide-die configuration that reduces leakage of the liquid coating. The process of using the invention can provide a more uniform thin film coating, higher coating efficiency, and better coating coverage than size applicators otherwise known in the art.

Abstract: An improvement to a corner-box drywall taping tool. It uses a housing similar to the existing tools. This housing has a quick release spring-loaded one-way valve attached to the mud area of the tool. One a roll of tape is installed; the unit is attached to a mud pump by the quick release fitting. A pump then fills the housing with mud in about 20 seconds. To prevent the case from opening under the pressure of the pump, additional latches are required to seal the housing. When the mud is exhausted with this device, the operator returns to the mud pump, attaches the fitting to the pump and in another 20 seconds is ready to go. This process can be repeated until the tape supply is exhausted. In this way, the device saves a lot of time during the filling process.

  • Patent number: 6342102
Abstract: In a dip forming process the core material to be coated is introduced directly into a source block of coating material eliminating the need for a bushing entrance component. The process containment vessel or crucible is heated so that only a portion of the coating material becomes molten, leaving a solid portion of material as the entrance port of, and seal around, the core material. The crucible can contain molten and solid metals and is especially useful when coating core material with reactive metals. The source block of coating material has been machined to include a close tolerance hole of a size and shape to closely fit the core material. The core material moves first through the solid portion of the source block of coating material where the close tolerance hole has been machined, then through a solid/molten interface, and finally through the molten phase where the diameter of the core material is increased.
