Abstract: A litter-based flush toilet for cats based on a modified flushing rim commercial service sink made of vitreous china equipped with an added moveable drain plug. The sink tramway is modified to lower the water level below the level of the drain plug, resulting in a dry bowl between flushes. The plug prevents flushable biodegradable litter from prematurely entering the drain and provides a safety factor for inquisitive digging cats. The commercial plumbing version has a conventional commercial flushing valve and lever, either hand or foot operated. The residential version has an oversized conventional toilet tank complete with flush handle and flapper valve. To flush, the pet owner activates the actuator to dislodge the cover from the drain and flushes the pet waste and absorbent material down the drain. The user then replaces the plug and refills the bowl with about an inch of fresh litter.

Abstract: A feces and urine disposal device for cats includes a support structure having parallel, vertically extending wall members, a bottom chamber, and an elevated relief area between the opposing wall members and above the bottom chamber. The relief area includes a pair of longitudinal channels disposed in spaced, parallel relation to one another and an open longitudinal gap between the channels and communicating with the bottom chamber. In use, a cat stands in the relief area with the left paws in one channel and the right paws in the opposite channel so that the cat is straddling the gap. When the cat relieves itself, feces and urine pass through the gap and into a removable trough positioned in the bottom chamber or directly into a toilet bowl. Cat litter or another odor absorbing or containing substance can be placed in the trough, as well as the relief area.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a reusable outer sleeve that is made of durable material for the purpose of protecting the sidewalls and corners of a fully-disposable pet toilet unit that incorporates living grass as an absorbent material for the bodily waste of pets. The sleeve eliminates or minimizes damage that can be caused by pets who engage in biting, chewing, gnawing, clawing, pecking, ripping and/or tearing of the apparatus. When the cover of a disposable pet toilet unit is removed by the user following the unit's delivery, the bottom of said unit is placed within the sleeve before the pet uses the toilet for the first time. The bottom of the unit is removed from the sleeve when it is time to discard the disposable pet toilet. The sleeve is retained for future use with other disposable pet toilet units that fit within the sleeve.

Abstract: A training toilet design that can be adapted for either a dog or a cat or other animal and even for a young human child is disclosed. A space or enclosure receives the trainee and upon receipt a switch is actuated. The switch can either be a pressure actuated mechanical switch or a motion detector switch. In response to the switch changing state, a microcontroller is actuated to provide any one of a number of responses. Responses include an audible encouraging comment when the trainee exits the toilet and when the trainee enters the toilet. A timing lapse programmed into the microprocessor can ensure that the exit message is played only when there has been a predetermined lapse time between the entrance and exit of the trainee. Modes that are provided by different combinations of these features are determined by a mode switch that is operable by the user.
