Abstract: A pad is designed to form a collar for supporting the neck of an animal. The pad is formed from a resilient, trimmable, and washable material having a top surface and a bottom surface separated by a pad thickness t. The pad is preferably substantially rectangular, having a pair of free ends which embrace the mandible and scapula of the animal, and a pair of engaging ends which overlap. The pad has a pad length L.sub.p between the engaging ends, and a pad width W.sub.p between the free ends. Preferably, the ratio of L.sub.p /W.sub.p is such that 3<L.sub.p /W.sub.p <6. The pad is preferably fabricated from a closed-cell polymer foam, and the top and bottom surfaces preferably form soil-resistant layers. Cross-linked polyethylene foam having a density of between about 2 and 6 lbs/cu.ft. with the thickness t being about 1/4 inch has been found effective. To form a collar, one or more inelastic bands secure the pad about the neck.

Abstract: A resilient safety dog collar including a bungee cord with a first male end and a second female end with a first aperture formed through the first end and a second aperture formed through the second end. Also included is an outside sleeve which has a male first end and a female second end with a central extent therebetween. A coupling is included along the length thereof for the majority of its extent to form a tubular opening. The second female end of the outside sleeve has a short planar extent terminating at a point with a plurality of holes therethrough in alignment with the axis of the outside sleeve. The outside sleeve has the bungee cord centrally located therewithin. Also included is an intermediate cylindrical sleeve having a first male end and a second female end located within the outside sleeve and encompassing the bungee cord and extending from within the first male end of the outside sleeve and extending therebeyond with the bungee cord also extending therebeyond.

Abstract: The Combination Collar is worn around the neck of a dog [or other animal] that one desires to control with the use of a leash attached to the collar. The collar being of a design such that the surface geometry of the inner surface of the collar, [surface of the collar facing the neck of the animal] having a plurality of posts or protruding elements that are substantially surrounded by a compressible, resilient material that, temporarily changes from a surface that is generally smooth, to a surface having protruding pressure points. This temporary change in surface geometry occurs in direct response to tension between the leash and the collar, as when the animal attempts to pull away from the attached leash. The inner surface of the collar returns to its original [generally smooth] surface geometry when the tension is absent.

Abstract: A strain reducing dog harness which comprises a single strap including a movable member disposed relative to the strap to define a single body loop of variable size. The strap is sized and arranged such that when mounted on the dog, the single body loop includes left and right strap portions which extend forwardly from the dog's shoulders, downwardly over the dog's chest, rearwardly under the respective left and right foreleg pits, and upwardly behind the dog's forelegs and over the dog's back. When the dog strains against a leash attached to the harness, a distributed pressure is applied to the chest, foreleg pits and back, to encourage the dog to relax to decrease the pressure. In another embodiment a single strap includes a first movable member and a second movable member which define a body loop and a neck loop.

Abstract: A veterinary recovery collar prevents an animal from licking or biting wounds, sores or stitches on its body and scratching its head with its paws. The collar has the shape of a round pillow with a central aperture. A shawl extends into the central aperture and has a drawstring. The collar is placed over the animal's head and is retained in place by drawing, or pulling, the drawstring that is laced through the shawl. The resulting collar creates a substantive barrier, preventing the animal from reaching its body with its head, or reaching its head with its paws. The collar is soft, comfortable and affords the animal freedom of mobility, an unimpaired field of vision, and the ability to carry on most normal activities.

Abstract: A device for holding a payload to a marine animal having a body with a fin and having a body surface where the device is to be attached having a shape comprising a pack having an inner surface and outer surface, the inner surface having a shape corresponding to the body surface and a holding means for holding the pack to the body surface and wherein the device has a front and a back and further comprises a front opening a rear opening allowing the water to move between the pack inner surface and body surface and wherein pack further comprises a body portion fitting over the body and a fin pack fitting around the fin and wherein body portion and fin pack are joined by a hinge means.

Abstract: A child restraint harness system comprising a first harness assembly securable about the legs and shoulders of a child and including a semi rigid child seat frame having harness retention clips securable to a second harness assembly worn by an adult. The restraint harness is particularly suitable for restraining a child in the lap of an adult while riding in an airplane.

Abstract: An anti-abduction device for preventing or discouraging the unlawful abduction of a child or person. The anti-abduction device comprises a pair of bracelets with each bracelet being adapted to fit around the arm of a person. More particularly, the bracelets include an interconnecting structure that enables the bracelets to be interconnected. In use the bracelets are disposed about the arms of a child or person. In an abduction threat the child or person places his or her arms around an object. Because the bracelets assume an interconnected mode after the arms have been extended around the object, it follows that the child or person is effectively tied to the object and this will serve to frustrate the abduction attempt.

Abstract: A dog halter which includes interconnected neck, side, and cheek straps. The nose and neck straps are substantially independent such that, when desired, the force exerted by the dog handler is independently transmitted to the nose strap for effectively maintaining the dog's mouth in closed condition. The various components are preferably formed of a flexible material, such as a braided fabric, and includes a size adjustment means for adapting the halter to various size dogs.

Abstract: An improved harness for restraining cats and small animals comfortably and safely by means of an L-shaped fabric portion (16), an upper girth strap (28) and a lower girth strap (26). The L-shaped fabric portion (16) curves gently around one side and underneath the cat's stomach thereby creating a soft but strong restraint. The collar portion (10) when adjusted properly prevents the cat from backing out of the walking jacket and thereby prevents escape.

Abstract: A harness for a dog such as a sled dog is fabricated of strap segments which provide a neck yoke of adjustable size having upper and lower V-shaped junctures, a longitudinal cushioned panel configured to reside against the underside of the dog, and paired oblique back and side segments which permit adjustability to the length of the dog.

Abstract: An interlockable pet collar for preventing an animal from biting or licking the affected injured areas of its body. The interlockable pet collar comprises a multiplicity of open frame structures which can be interconnected to each other to provide an unlimited length of the pet collar. Each open frame structure has three side legs which are integrally formed with a top and bottom legs. One of the three sides legs has two apertures remote from each other. Another one of the three sides legs has two fasteners which are located remote from each and has a distance which is approximately equal to the distance between the two apertures. Each one of the open frames structures is attached to each other by inserting a respective one of the two fasteners to a respective one of the two apertures of another open frame structure, and etc, thereby forming a tubular or cylindrical shaped collar to accommodate an animal's neck.

Abstract: A non-choking pet restraint which applies restraining pressure to an animals shoulder's and chest and not to the neck and throat area. The device has a chest/belly panel, which also serves as a brush protective guard for dogs in the field, and two shoulder panels attached to it and to a back strap. Flank straps attach to the chest/belly panel, and to a back strap. A leach attachment ring is part of the back strap. The leash attachment ring rests on a dog behind his shoulder blades and rib cage, and in front of his hips. The device includes a convenient way to restrain a pet in a car seat using the car seat belt.

Abstract: A supporting appliance for animals having a weak back includes a harness for encircling the animal's shoulder, a brace that extends the length of the animal's back and a girth that encircles the animal's body. The brace provides support for the animal's back so that the animal may undertake normal movements otherwise difficult or prevented due to insufficient back strength. Alternately, the brace may be oriented on the halter and girth so that when the appliance is secured to the animal, the brace lies along and provides support for the animal's stomach. A second brace may also be attached to the halter and girth such that when the appliance is secured to the animal, a combination of support to the animal's back and stomach is provided. The appliance may include a plurality of girths or a single girth in the form of a unitary band that extends essentially the length of the animal's back.

Abstract: A dog harness having a collar mounted on a dog's neck, a girth passing around the dog's body, the girth having a first end fastened to the metal ring at the collar and a second end passing around the dog's body and then inserted through the metal ring at the collar, a retainer moved on the girth between the second end of the girth and the metal ring at the collar and secured at the desired location, a drag rope connected to the second end of the girth, and a belt connected between the collar and the girth and retained between the two front legs of the dog.

Abstract: A kit for forming multiple decorative dog collars has two flexible collar end sections and at least two different, decorative, flexible collar intermediate sections. Any one of the intermediate sections can be connected to the end sections to form a decorative collar. Abstract: This invention relates to an animal collar that is non-irritating and tangle resistant. The collar comprises a flexible collar portion, a lower collar portion, a device for connecting together the ends of the flexible collar portion, and a device for attaching a leash to the flexible collar portion. The permanent shape of the lower collar portion maintains an open configuration to the collar such that forces on the animal's neck are distributed around the neck thus reducing irritation to the animal.

Abstract: A safety restraint for pets, utilized with an existing vehicular seat belt system, and method for constructing the restraint are disclosed. The restraint includes a harness made of a single length of webbing attached at its ends to form an endless belt, the belt having first and second closed loops formed therein by intermediate securement of one side of the belt with the opposite side of the belt. A connecting strap and tether are connected to different ones of the loops to thereby releasably associate the loops and releasably associate the harness with the seat belt system. Strap sets are utilized to associate opposite sides of the loops to provide securement and fit adjustment on the pet at each loop.

Abstract: An improved restrictive pet collar comprising a base (12) of strong semi-rigid material, such as leather or heavy plastic, which is adjustable attached to a pet by a fastener (14), together with a plurality of restraining members (16) projecting radially outward from the base (12) attached with attachment screws (18) at numerous locations about the side and upper portions of the base. The pet restrictive collar is oriented to preclude a pet from passing through narrow openings, from burrowing under fencing, or from chewing or scratching areas under medical treatment while allowing good pet mobility, visibility, and comfort.

Abstract: An animal collar, more specifically a dog collar for use with large and powerful dogs, has a rigid handle securely affixed to its center so that the handler maintains complete control over the dog at all times and there is excellent communication between dog and handler. The handle is angled such that the correct orientation is maintained whether the handler is on the right or left side of the dog. The collar also is fitted with rings to accomodate a standard leash. A curved steel reinforcing plate within the layers of the collar prevents the handle from coming dislodged. The collar is wide enough so as not to pinch or cut off the windpipe of the dog even under strain.

Abstract: An animal harness having a rectangularly shaped slotted plate for resting on the back of the animal rearwardly of its forward shoulders and a single control strap adapted to be attached to a leash and for cooperating with pairs of rings for defining right and left foreleg slip loops. Abstract: A dog harness has a collar having a front ring and rings at each of its free ends. A releasable buckle functions to releasably couple the collar free ends. A cord passes through the rings and forms a pair of loops for disposition in the foreleg pits of a dog. A ring and fastener at the cord free ends releasably couples these ends with the ring and is also adapted to be coupled with a leash. A strain on the leash and harness caused by the dog will exert pressure to the foreleg pits which will result in the dog reacting to decrease this pressure.

An arrangement is thus provided which is useful for a variety of activities involving guiding a dog.
