Abstract: A rope reel includes first circumferential wall portion that is erectly provided so as to surround outer circumference of recoil spring. A starter case includes second circumferential wall portion that is erectly provided so as to adjoin inner circumferential face or outer circumferential face of first circumferential wall portion. The first circumferential wall portion and the second circumferential wall portion are disposed so that end edges of the first circumferential wall portion and the second circumferential wall portion overlap each other when viewed in radial direction. A plate is disposed between starter case and recoil spring inside first circumferential wall portion. Thus, it is possible to provide structure which is realized in space-saving manner to make foreign substances difficult to intrude into starting device in order to prevent deformation or damage of recoil spring, and from which the foreign substances are easily discharged even if foreign substances have intruded.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for starting an internal combustion engine using a starting device, an ignition spark from a spark plug of an internal combustion engine being controllable by the starting device as a function of the speed of the crankshaft, a progressive rise of the advance of the ignition angle before top dead center already being performed as a function of the crankshaft speed at low speeds below the idle speed, which is followed at rising crankshaft speed by a sudden drop of the advance of the ignition angle to a plateau of the idle speed range.

Abstract: A pull-start engine includes a crankcase unit, a pull-start unit, a gearbox unit, and a lubricating unit. The crankcase unit includes a crankcase and a crankshaft. The gearbox unit includes a gearbox and a drive shaft. The pull-start unit is sleeved fixedly on the crankshaft. A surrounding wall of the pull-start unit has an inner wall surface formed with an annular inner slot communicated with a lubricant passage in the crankshaft, an outer wall surface formed with a through hole communicated with the inner slot, and two annular flanges flanking the through hole so as to define an annular outer slot therebetween. The lubricating unit includes an entrance passage formed in the crankcase and communicated with the outer slot, and a connecting passage formed in the crankcase and the gearbox and communicated with the outer slot and a lubricant passage in the drive shaft.

  • Patent number: 6968821
Abstract: A model engine starter assembly is provided which is capable of quickly relieving the engagement between the actuator and the coupling pin upon the start of the model engine and includes a starter shaft which carries a starter pin and defines a shaft axis, and a hub provided with a guide groove which is slanted at a predetermined angle with respect to the shaft axis. The hub has a bore in which a rearward end portion of the starter shaft is inserted for rotational movement relative to the hub. The starter pin is received within the slanted groove so as to move the starter shaft in the direction of the shaft axis in response to rotation of the shaft axis relative to the hub to thereby move an actuator attached to a forward end of the starter shaft into and out of engagement with a connecting pin of the model engine's crank shaft.

  • Patent number: 6684843
Abstract: In an engine, a cover member closing an opening in an engine block is integrally formed with supporting arms extending radially outwards beyond an outer periphery of a flywheel mounted on a crankshaft supported at its one end on the cover member, and a recoil starter located axially outside the flywheel is supported on the supporting arms. Thus, the recoils starter can be supported easily and reliably without provision of a special mounting bracket and a stay and while preventing the interference with the flywheel. Moreover, the coaxiality of the recoil starter and the crankshaft can be ensured.

  • Patent number: 6253722
Abstract: A starting device has a rotary drive member that is operable by hand or power devices. The device has a detented or geared strip arranged to engage with a similarly detented or geared starting wheel. The teeth of these parts are designed to grab and lock with each other in the starting direction and to slip past each other in the opposite direction. Crimping, sticking and other failure modes of conventional wind up rope units are virtually eliminated. A more consistent pull is afforded owing to a constant radius interface with the starter wheel rather than a diminishing radius of the type delivered by a wound rope.
