  • Patent number: 6123091
Abstract: A combination playyard and canopy assembly is provided. The playyard includes a top frame having first and second side rails and first and second end rails that define an opening. The canopy includes a mounting clip, frame members, and a cover. The frame members are pivotably coupled to the mounting clip for movement about a common pivot axis and the cover is attached to the frame members. The frame members are pivotable relative to the mounting clip between a first position in which the cover extends over the opening and a second position in which the cover is moved away from the opening to allow access to the interior region of the playyard. The mounting clip includes deformable members snapped onto the top frame to mount the canopy to the top frame. The bottom perimetral edge of the cover is attached to the top frame so that the cover encompasses the entire top frame when the frame members are in the first position.

  • Patent number: 6109280
Abstract: A cabana system adapted for use in a stand-alone mode is disclosed. The system includes a separable floor for use as a cover for a playyard of the type having vertically extending reception apertures in the upper corners thereof. The system is comprised of a frame fabricated of two flexible rods. Each flexible rod is hollow with free ends adapted to be received within apertures of a playyard. The rods are positioned in side-by-side relationship to thereby form a generally cylindrical central extent. The rod placement further forms spaced semi-circular planar surfaces on opposite sides thereof at the ends of the central sections. A fabric cover covers the tubes with a screen door in a semi-circular configuration in one planar face thereof with a fastener for coupling and uncoupling the screened panel. A fabric floor is formed as an extension of one planar face remote from the screen door and is adapted to depend downwardly over one side of the playyard when deployed thereon.

  • Patent number: 6098218
Abstract: A cabin cot includes a canopy, a base sheet, and legs. The base sheet forms a bed portion, and the canopy includes window mosquito netting portions. A plurality of legs support the cabin cot. A pair of ribs having stop portions are assembled in end frame members, and the end frame members are connected to side members for supporting the base sheet. The ribs are formed as rods of flexible material, so that they can be stored or carried as a generally straight piece, and can be manually bent or flexed into position in the end frame member 40 when assembly is performed. The resiliency of the ribs serves to provide a retaining force which retains each rib in position in retaining apertures in the respective end frame member. The retaining apertures can be disposed at varying angles, and the angle of the retaining apertures determines the amount of force retaining the ribs to the end frame members.

  • Patent number: 6095172
Abstract: A sunshade assembly removably mounts to outdoor furniture, such as a lounge chair, and includes a canopy structure having first and second pivotally movable frame members, and a foldable material canopy fitted to and extending between the frame members. A tensioning bar removably secures to the respective frame members at opposite ends to maintain the frame members separated so that the canopy is pulled taut, thereby blocking the sun's rays and creating an area of shade. A telescoping support arm attaches to the furniture at one end and to the first frame member at an opposite end and is adjustable in length to selectively position and maintain the expanded canopy throughout a range of adjusted positions relative to the furniture, thereby controlling the location of the created area of shade. The canopy structure collapses behind the furniture upon removing the tensioning bar and releasing the lower end of the support arm from attachment with the furniture.

The outer supported edge is designed to bend inward, downward, or upward when in contact with trees or bushes while hiking. Integrally formed along the rear portion of the canopy is a rear cover which is designed to extend rearward and partially cover the top portion of the backpack. A vertical support is provided which holds the canopy in an elevated position above the user's head and shoulders. The vertical support may be attached to a backpack or to a waist belt or chest harness. Hook and loop strap connectors are used to selectively attach the vertical support to frame members on a typical backpack. Also included are two pitch control straps located on opposite sides of the canopy which enable the user to adjust the pitch of the canopy to improve visibility and the amount of shade.

  • Patent number: 5711743
Abstract: A tent is provided for selective attachment to a conventional trampoline. The tent includes a low profile domed shell having a base that is removably secured around the perimeter of the trampoline. A pair of primary support rods are hingedly mounted on opposing sides of the trampoline and are biased against the shell to keep the shell elevated off of the trampoline. An adjustable support rod has opposing ends slidably mounted to opposing ends of one of the primary support rods. By disconnecting the shell from the trampoline along one side of the trampoline, the shell and support rods can be folded about the opposing side of the trampoline. An apron is attached to the shell along the opposing side of the trampoline and is configured to enclose the shell and support rods below the top of the trampoline. Ties are then used to secure the apron around the shell which is connected to the trampoline frame.

  • Patent number: 5690133
Abstract: A floating sun shield apparatus includes a frame having oppositely disposed longitudinal frame members and oppositely disposed transverse frame members. The frame members have a perimeter defining a user area. Also included is a canopy operatively coupled to the frame and disposed over the user area where the canopy is configured to block sunlight from the user area. Two flexible canopy support rods releasably attach to the frame at opposite ends substantially forming an arch where each support rod is configured to attach to either the longitudinal frame members or to the transverse frame members such that the canopy support rods are maintained in a flexed convex orientation relative to the frame. The canopy has opposite longitudinal sides configured to engage the canopy support rods such that the canopy is maintained in a curved orientation above the user area. The frame is configured to be buoyant in water such that the canopy is maintained above the user area.

Abstract: A stiff supportive covering with an attached net-like material that forms a tent-like enclosure for protection from flying insects when the stiff supportive covering is positioned atop a conventional umbrella in an open position and the net-like material is extended to the ground. The stiff supportive covering is preferably a circular-shaped plastic material and defines a relatively small circular opening permitting passage therethrough of the uppermost end of the conventional portable umbrella's supporting pole. The net-like material is attached about the circumference of the covering and has a length sufficient to extend to the ground. The net-like material has a plurality of weights attached at a lower edge thereby to retain the net-like material in contact with the ground.
