  • Patent number: 5971047
Abstract: A tire has a carcass reinforcement (1) which, when viewed in meridian secn, is wound in each bead B about a bead wire (2) coated with a rubber mix, passing from the heel to the toe of the bead B, the upturn (10) being located in a profile (3) of rubber mix in the form of a wedge defined by two sides (31 and 32) coming from an apex A located beneath the section of the coated bead wire (2). Advantageously the upturn (10) surrounds in its entirety the contour of the profile (3), forming either a first radially inner side (32), a lateral side (30), and a final radially outer side (31) or a first radially outer side (31), a lateral side (30), and a final radially inner side (32). • Patent number: 4650257
Abstract: A heavy equipment tire rim is constructed from stock shapes of metal. The base is a right cylinder. Flat radial annular disks are welded to the cylindrical base and support a steel cone having a cone angle of 15 degrees from the surface of the cylinder to support the tire bead. There are two disks for each cone to support the cone at its smallest diameter and at its largest diameter. Additional intermediate disks may be used. In another version bar stock lengths span the diagonal between the base of the outermost annular disk where it meets the cylindrical base and the periphery of the smaller radial disk where it meets the smallest circumference of the cone. The bars are in closely spaced annular series. The tire bead stop is welded to the outer circumference of the cone or to a cylindrical skirt extending the outer circumference of the cone. The stop is made of round, semi-round, or quarter-round stock. The tire bead is retained by an arc which is a quarter of a circle.

  • Patent number: 4434830
Abstract: A pneumatic tire having better aerodynamic characteristics than conventionally shaped tires is disclosed. A radial cross-section of the tire has an external contour on each side of its mid-circumferential plane, exclusive of indicia on the sidewalls or traction elements of the tread portion, that extends continuously axially outwardly and radially inwardly to the point where the external surface of each sidewall intersects a radially extending line, that is tangent to the axially outer edge of a retaining flange of a rim that the tire is mountable upon, with a portion of the external contour on each side of the mid-circumferential plane at least approximating an ellipse. The external surfaces of the sidewalls do not extend more than 2.54 millimeters (0.1 inch) axially outwardly of the axially outer edge of the retaining flange of the rim at any location.

  • Patent number: 4371024
Abstract: The invention relates to an emergency running ring for pneumatic tires mounted on vehicle rims. A lubricant is contained in cavities formed by virtue of the shape of the ring, or is contained in auxiliary members mounted in openings in the ring or mounted on the surface of the ring. In all instances, the loss of tire pressure due to emergency conditions causes the lubricant to be released so as to reduce the friction between the inner face of the tire cover and the ring.
