Butt Edge Joining Of Laminae Patents (Class 156/304.1)
  • Publication number: 20010007272
Abstract: A veneer edge jointing apparatus which comprises a plurality of rows of conveyors (chains) for transporting a veneer piece until a trailing edge of the veneer piece in a direction of transportation comes to an abutting position; an adhesive-applying device for applying a hot melt adhesive to a leading edge of the transported veneer piece in the direction of transportation; and a bonding device for abutting the leading edge of the veneer piece transported by means of the conveyors against a trailing edge of a preceding veneer sheet in alignment with the abutting position, and then pushing and feeding the veneer piece to bond the veneer pieces to each other into a continuous veneer sheet. The bonding device is arranged at a position for substantially filling vacant regions in the direction of width orthogonal to the direction of transportation.

  • Patent number: 6231947
Abstract: A method of forming a wood-veneered product. The method includes (1) providing a veneer having a main portion formed of wood and an edge portion joined to the main portion, the edge portion being formed of a material different from the wood of the main portion, (2) providing a core having an edge portion and a surface for receiving the veneer, (3) affixing the veneer to the surface of the core, so that the edge portion of the veneer is adjacent the edge portion of the core, and (4) shaping the veneer and core, so that the edge portion of the veneer is removed, to form the wood-veneered product. The method reduces waste, because it reduces the amount of wood required for the main portion of the veneer. The core and veneer may include various materials of various sizes. The core and veneer may be formed and joined in various ways. The invention also provides a wood-veneered product constructed in accordance with limitations (1)-(3).

  • Patent number: 6214157
Abstract: A trim component (1) for an automobile or the like includes a substrate (2) and two different cover materials such as a cover film (3) and a cover cloth (4). The two cover materials (3, 4) are not spliced together, but instead are independently adhesively bonded directly onto the substrate (2) by a hot-melt contact adhesion. The junction (7) is received in a valley (6) of the substrate (2) that is pinched closed during molding of the trim component. For forming the trim component, a molding apparatus includes a horizontally movable pinching stamp (13) that forms a pinching gap (16) relative to a protruding edge (11A) of a fixed mold tool (11). A tucking blade (22) presses the substrate and junction (7) of the cover sheets into the pinching gap (16), and is then retracted while the pinching stamp (13) pinches closed the pinching gap (16).

  • Patent number: 6190491
Abstract: An organic shell inlay blank is provided including a first layer of organic shell matter having two opposed surfaces defining a first thickness therebetween rendering the first layer flexible, a second layer of organic shell matter having two opposed surfaces defining a second thickness therebetween rendering the second layer flexible. One of the surfaces of the first layer substantially overlaps and is secured to one of the surfaces of the second layer. A bonding agent secures the layers together to form the inlay blank. A method for manufacturing an organic shell inlay blank includes the steps of cutting a plurality of flexible pieces of organic shell matter from an organic shell, stacking the pieces in a substantially overlapping relationship with a bonding agent between the pieces, and urging the pieces together while the bonding agent cures to form the inlay blank.

  • Patent number: 6179950
Abstract: A process for joining together a first polishing pad with a second polishing pad to form a larger pad for a machine that performs chemical-mechanical polishing of silicon wafers. The process includes laying a first polishing pad on a surface and laying a second pad on the surface so that a portion of the second pad overlies a portion of the first pad, creating an overlap region. The first and second pads in the overlap region are cut through to form a first cut edge on the first pad and a second cut edge on the second pad, the first and second cut edges having shapes which are complementary. The first and second cut edges are brought into engagement, and the first pad is joined to the second pad at the first and second cut edges.

  • Patent number: 6176963
Abstract: A C-shaped clamp cut from a PVC tube having a longitudinal axis and comprising a circular ring of a predetermined diameter and having side edges and a predetermined radial wall thickness extending through a predetermined width between the side edges and a slit cut across the width of the ring to define jaws on either side of the slit. A plurality of the circular clamps are utilized in a method for fabricating a counter top. Edge trims strips are adhesively laminated together on a shelf while held by clamps for curing and later adhesively secured to the periphery of a counter top panel, again held in place by clamps including corner clamps. In an another version, two panels are held in edge to edge contact by either abutments on the panels or by a stringer held in a bowed configuration by a combination of abutting clamps Handles are provided to facilitate manual opening of the clamps.
