Abstract: In a process for continuously making disposable wearing articles, a first web which will be finally cut into a series of sheet members that are contiguous to one another in a transverse direction, and that define an outer surface of the article, is continuously fed in a first machine direction. A second web having a ?-shaped cross-section forming individual adhesive taper strips is fed in a second machine direction orthogonal to the first machine direction. The second web is periodically cut in a second cross direction orthogonal to the second machine direction to obtain composites. • Patent number: 6926785
Abstract: The method of this invention adheres a low emissivity radiant barrier material to an underlying lignocellulosic substrate within the primary manufacturing operation of the underlying lignocellulosic substrate. Thus, a radiant barrier covered substrate is formed by integrally joining the radiant barrier covering to a mat of lignocellulosic material during consolidation thereof with a first adhesive bonding material to form an underlying substrate. The integral joining operation can, for example, be accomplished by bonding the radiant barrier covering to a lignocellulosic mat in a product formation press. This is typically accomplished using a second adhesive bonding material for adhesion of the radiant barrier material to the lignocellulosic mat, and a first adhesive bonding material for consolidating the lignocellulosic mat to form a lignocellulosic substrate.

Abstract: The machine of the present invention fabricates an undergarment assembly having an elasticized pad support panel secured to inner surfaces of the rear panel and the openable front panel. The machine makes the garment assembly from two half width webs, one of which has a reinforced edge. The machine arrangement includes first and second transversely spaced web paths and components to bond tensioned elastic strands to spaced dots of adhesive located on a third pad supporting web that is secured to adhesive areas applied adjacent, but not in, the garment crotch area with spaced adhesive applied to the innermost surfaces of the rear and front panels. The machine includes devices to add side margin and front panel connecting tapes, and die cutting rolls to cut leg openings in side margins. The machine includes components to divert cull product and deliver flat unfolded product, or longitudinal and transverse folded products for packaging.

  • Patent number: 6197138
Abstract: A machine and process are disclosed for bonding an elastic member to a moving substrate web while the elastic member is in an un-stretched condition. The machine provides for upwardly folding a moving substrate web along a longitudinal centerline while maintaining the side edge regions of the web in a flat un-folded or un-gather condition. An elastic member is applied to the moving web while the elastic member is un-stretched, applying the first and second end regions of the elastic member to the respective first and second side edge regions of the moving web. The end regions of the elastic member are next bonded to the side edges of the web, leaving the remainder of the elastic member un-bonded to the web. The web is then un-folded or un-gathered to its first normal width, stretching the bonded elastic member. At least a portion of the remainder of the elastic member previously un-bonded to the web is then bonded to the web, and the stretched elastic member is allowed to relax.

Abstract: A pocket coil spring structure assembling apparatus includes a feeder mechanism for supplying a group of pocket coil springs to a positioning transfer conveyor. A positioning transfer conveyor mechanism conveys the group of the pocket coil springs supplied from the feeder mechanism to a predetermined location. A cutter mechanism mounted between the feeder mechanism and the positioning transfer conveyor mechanism separates a group of the pocket coil springs from succeeding pocket coil springs by cutting to a given length. A press holding mechanism holds and lifts the group of the pocket coil springs on the positioning transfer conveyor by pressing the radial center of each pocket coil spring from opposite ends thereof. A press holding mechanism carrier mechanism moves the press holding mechanism in four, i.e. forward, backward, leftward, and rightward, directions. A spray mechanism including a spray nozzle applies a spray of an adhesive material to the group of the pocket coil springs.

  • Patent number: 5928452
Abstract: A method of making an absorbent device that is worn interlabially by female wearers for catamenial purposes, incontinence protection, or both, is disclosed. The method involves at least partially enclosing a continuous length of absorbent material in a cover material. The cover material is positioned so that it lies on opposite sides of the length of absorbent material. The absorbent material is then optionally shaped so that along its length there are regions of greater and lesser thickness on alternating sides of the longitudinal axis of the absorbent material. In one embodiment, the shaping is accomplished by bonding a first portion of the cover material to a second portion of the cover material on the opposite side of the absorbent material so that the bonding penetrates through the absorbent material. A generally transverse direction cut is made across the length of absorbent material which alternates longitudinally across the length of absorbent material to provide the device with shaped ends.

  • Patent number: 5772838
Abstract: Apparatus and a method for production of laminated electronic or electrical devices are described which enables one thin patterned or unpatterned substrate to be easily and accurately incorporated into a previous stack of substrates by registration of a coated tape from which the substrate is excised. In the present invention the tape is indexed to a fixed position and then a platen with the previously stacked substrates is brought into registration with the stationary tape, following which the substrate is excised from the coated tape and added to the stack of substrates. Since the tape always is positioned in the equipment as indexed at the same location with each indexing step, and since once indexed the tape does not move, the platen can be brought into accurate alignment and registration with the tape.
