Abstract: A method performed by a zone controller for a zone of a building for improving energy efficiency in a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system is provided. The method includes operating in a ventilation mode. A temperature of the zone and outside air conditions for the building are monitored. A determination is made regarding whether to switch from the ventilation mode to an economizing mode based on a first set point for the temperature of the zone and based on the outside air conditions. The first set point is determined based on a second set point for the temperature that is different from the first set point. A determination is made regarding whether to activate the HVAC system based on the second set point.

Abstract: A temperature regulating device includes a C-shape portion, at least a solar panel and a small fan. A space is provided in the C-shape portion. Several outlets are disposed on top of the C-shape portion. Several inlets are disposed on the bottom of the C-shape portion and are in fluid communication with the space. The solar panel is disposed on the outer side of the C-shape portion to absorb sunlight so as to convert it to electricity. The small fan is electrically connected with the solar panel and is disposed in a space of the C-shape portion. Therefore, a user may wear the device and uses the solar panel to generate electricity. The device is easy to carry and use and is environmentally friendly.

Abstract: Heat exchangers of a refrigerant circuit are constructed of a first adsorption heat exchanger and a second adsorption heat exchanger, both of which have an adsorbent supported thereon, and are constructed so as to be switched into an evaporator and a condenser. An air passage is constructed so as to be switched into states in which air flowing from the outside of a room to the inside of the room and air flowing from the inside of the room to the outside of the room flow through either of the first adsorption heat exchanger and the second adsorption heat exchanger. A dehumidifying operation mode and a humidifying operation mode can be performed by switching the flow of refrigerant and the flow of air at specified intervals, a cooling operation mode and a heating operation mode can be performed without switching the flow of refrigerant and the flow of air, and an ventilating operation mode can be performed by flowing air through the air passage in a state where the refrigerant circuit is stopped.

Abstract: An HVAC system for controlling the temperature and humidity of air supplied to a comfort zone includes a heater and a cooler operating concurrently. In response to a supply air temperature sensor, a PID control loop with substantially constant gain controls the cooler to maintain the zone air at a certain comfortable temperature. The heater, also under PID control, is controlled in response to a humidistat. To prevent the heater from overloading the cooler during periods of high cooling demand, a variable gain multiplier decreases the heater's gain when the cooler's output exceeds a predetermined limit; otherwise, the heater's gain remains substantially constant. When the cooler is operating above the predetermined limit, the multiplier varies linearly between positive-one and negative-one and does so inverse-proportionally with the cooling load to smoothly change the heater's PID control from direct acting to reverse acting as the cooler approaches its maximum capacity.
