Abstract: A clamping mechanism having two or more jaws which may be opened to allow a tubular to be introduced within the jaws and closed to retain the tubular therewithin. The rollers are located within concave recesses and maintained in spaced apart relationship by biasing means, whereby rotation of tubular may cause the rollers to be wedged between a wall of the recess and the tubular to grip the tubular within the jaws. The clamping mechanism may be utilized as an oil field tubular clamp, a slip, a pipe clamp, and other mechanisms. There is also disclosed a clutch comprising an outer race, a cage, and an inner ring. Recesses are provided in an outer race and accommodate rollers therewith and maintained in spaced apart relationship by the cage. The cage may be moved by an actuator to selectively allow free wheeling or prevent rotation. A socket ratchet incorporating such a clutch is also disclosed.

Abstract: A switchable free-wheel device for a transmission for a crank-driven CVT of a motor vehicle. The device includes at least one free-wheel unit with a drivable outer ring, an inner ring in the form of an output shaft, and clamping bodies disposed between the rings and rotatable about their longitudinal axes. In the axial direction, each of the clamping bodies includes first and second grooves that are axially spaced from each other and offset relative to each other in the peripheral direction of the clamping body. Annular worm springs surrounding the clamping bodies are displaceable in the axial direction of the body by a switching mechanism, such that the springs engage either in the first groove or in the second groove. The clamping body rotates about its longitudinal axis such that the force applied by the worm spring runs on a side of the longitudinal axis.

Abstract: A rotation transmission device which can quickly change the direction of rotation includes an inner ring having cam surfaces on its outer periphery, an outer ring having a cylindrical surface on its inner periphery, and pairs of circumferentially opposed rollers, the rollers of each pair being disposed between one of the cam surfaces and the cylindrical surface to be circumferentially opposed to each other. A roller separation spring is disposed between the rollers of each pair of rollers to bias the rollers away from each other so that the rollers are wedged between the cam surface and the cylindrical surface. The rollers are retained by a roller retainer which can change the distance between the rollers of each pair of rollers. By reducing the distance between the rollers of each pair of rollers with the roller retainer, the rollers can be disengaged from the cam surfaces and the cylindrical surface.

Abstract: A one-way clutch unit includes a one-way clutch 2 and an unlocking member 3. The one-way clutch includes inner and outer races 6 and 7. Two pockets 8 having wedge spaces having a wedge angle ? are formed between the inner and outer races. Several rolling elements 15 are received in each pocket 8. The unlocking member 3 includes an annular portion concentric with the inner race 6, and axially extending unlocking pieces 18 each received in one of the pockets 8 between the end of the pocket 8 that faces the narrow ends of the wedge spaces having the wedge angle ? and the rolling elements 15. By externally actuating the unlocking member 3, the rolling elements 15 are moved toward the wide ends of the respective wedge space having the wedge angle ?, thereby unlocking the clutch. Thus, it is possible to unlock the clutch and prevent transmission of torque to the output member while the input member is rotating in the forward direction.
