  • Patent number: 6135255
Abstract: A clutch that connects a first rotating member to a second rotating member in a manner that allows directional rotation between the two members in an engaged mode and free rotation between the members in a disengaged mode. The novelty of this invention lies in the combination of directional rotation (i.e., rotation in one direction) capability with free rotation (i.e., rotation in both directions) capability in a single device.

  • Patent number: 6116393
Abstract: In an annular space between a pulley and a shaft body disposed coaxially with each other, a one-way clutch is interposed in an intermediate range in an axial direction and rolling bearings are disposed on both sides in the axial direction of the one-way clutch. A tightening distance for fitting between the one-way clutch and pulley is set to be smaller than that between the rolling bearing and pulley. Due to this structure, in a condition in which an excessive radial load acts upon the pulley, that radial load acts on not the one-way clutch but the rolling bearings on both sides thereof, so that a clutch operation of the one-way clutch can be carried out stably.

  • Patent number: 6102179
Abstract: A device for the transmission of one-way torque comprising an outer annular member having a plurality of radially inwardly projecting teeth each comprising a driving surface and a cam surface, and a shaft concentrically mounted with respect to the outer annular member and comprising a plurality of drive elements each having a driving surface and a cam surface. Rotation of the shaft or outer annular member in its driving direction causes engagement of a driving surface of at least one drive element with a driving surface of at least one tooth thereby resulting in joint rotation of the shaft and outer annular member. Rotation of the shaft or outer annular member in its non-driving direction causes engagement of the cam surface of at least one drive element with the cam surface of at least one tooth resulting in additional relative movement, substantially radially, between the drive element and tooth, thereby preventing rotational movement being transmitted between the shaft and the outer annular member.

  • Patent number: 6095693
Abstract: An inner ring is shaped in its contour by a cold-shaping treatment and is hardened on its surface by a nitrosulphurizing treatment or a soft-nitriding treatment. As a result, the hardness of the surface of the inner ring is enhanced by the cold-shaping treatment and further by the subsequent hardening treatment. As a result, the inner ring is improved in its wear resistance and its seizure resistance. Moreover, the hardening treatment is effected by the nitrosulphurizing treatment or the soft-nitriding treatment so that it can be suppressed from straining in that treating procedure.

Abstract: A crankshaft decoupler has a mounting hub, a pulley rotatably mounted on the mounting hub, an annular carrier mounted within said pulley, a biasing device mounted therebetween, and a one way clutch mounted between the annular carrier and the pulley. The biasing device cushions the belt drive from crankshaft impulses and lowers the angular resonant frequency of the belt system. The one way clutch prevents sudden reversal of the belt tension in the drive due to start/stop of the engine or sudden deceleration of the engine and prevents momentary reverse slip belt squeal as a result of the tensioners' inadequate output for the reverse mode. Abstract: A clutch mechanism for use on a conventional bicycle which permits independent actuation of both pedals and provides a driving force through 100% of a pedal stroke. The clutch is generally comprised of a single, outer, cylindrical rotor which extends between the two pedals, and two internal rotors, respective to each pedal, positioned within the outer rotor. The internal rotors each include respective longitudinally extending, annularly spaced webs and longitudinally extending V-shaped portions integrally positioned between successive webs. In addition, magnets are attached to each rotor and positioned at the vortices of the V-shaped portions. The clutch further includes a set of cylindrical rods positioned between the two rotors which become wedgingly engaged between the magnets and the outer rotor when the pedal is actuated by a user of the bike. In addition, each pedal is attached to the frame of the bike via a spring which prohibits the pedal from being rotated a full 360.degree..

Abstract: A torque transmission device has an outer ring and an input shaft rotatably mounted in the outer ring. The outer ring and the input shaft are formed with engaging surfaces so as to be opposite to each other. A cage is rotatably mounted between the engaging surfaces and provided with pockets. The engaging elements are mounted in the pockets and adapted to engage the engaging surfaces when the input shaft and the cage rotate either in a normal or reverse direction relative to each other. Elastic members are mounted in the pockets to hold the engaging elements in a position where they are not engaged. A control shaft is mounted coaxially and rotatably with respect to the input shaft. The cage and the input shaft are coupled together through the control shaft so that a turning torque can be transmitted therebtween. A gap is provided in the direction of rotation at a coupling portion between the input shaft and the control shaft.

Abstract: An overriding clutch adapted for use within both metallic and synthetic resin structures has a housing of generally annular cross section with at least three equidistantly spaced recesses about its inner periphery each having a radial throat portion and a secantally extending portion elongated in the direction opposite the normal direction of rotation of the shaft. The radially outer surface of the secantal portion has a secantally extending rectilinear ramp portion which is inclined to a smaller radial dimension. A roller bearing in the recess has a diameter slightly larger than the throat, and the radial depth of the recess to the ramp surface is less than the diameter of the roller bearing so that the outer circumference of the roller bearing extends radially inwardly of the housing to provide a bearing surface for the shaft. Abstract: The throttle of an aircraft can be alternatively controlled either by a flight control computer or by the manual control of the pilot. A clutch is installed between the throttle control lever and a control input to the flight control computer which in the autothrottle mode of operation is engaged to enable control of the throttle by the flight control computer with the control lever being positioned in accordance with such control. When manual takeover of the throttle control is desired, a switch is actuated by the pilot which operates to disengage the clutch and thereby disconnects the control output of the computer from the lever so that only manual control is provided. A unique clutch mechanism is employed which utilizes a pair of locking wedges which operate in conjunction with a pair of rollers. The wedges and rollers are driven into engagement with each other by a solenoid, the opposing plates of the clutch being held in locking engagement through the intermediary provided by the wedges and rollers.

Multiple rolls of ribbon are utilized on the ribbon mandril to accommodate the documents. The ribbon is kept taut across its print head by the feed system controller.
