Patent number: 6347410Abstract: The self-sizing baseball cap with a two or more piece, one or more layer sweatband satisfies the long recognized need of providing a baseball cap that fits a range of head sizes comfortably without any wearer adjustable cap sizing devices. This sweatband is flexibly attached to the self-sizing baseball cap so that it can be in either the stowed or deployed position when wearing the cap. When deployed, it creates an expanded self-adjustable attachment area on the wearer's head and provides more shade and warmth to the wearer. The two or more piece, one or more layer sweatband can be made from one or more than one different material with some or all materials biaxially or uniaxially stretchable. Each piece of the sweatband can be a different color or the same color as the other sweatband pieces.Type: GrantFiled: June 14, 2001Date of Patent: February 19, 2002Inventor: Razgo Lee

Patent number: 6260206Abstract: The Modular Head Covering System includes a temperature regulation module, an insect-excluding module and a rain cover module. The temperature regulation module can include the following components: a head-encircling member such as a headband, to which a visor, a scarf-like headcover, and a pair of side flaps can be detachably attached in varying combinations for shade, regulation of body heat, and insulation. The headcover attaches within a pocket built into the section of the head-encircling member that crosses the forehead of the wearer. Two notches are cut into the headcover, one on each side, where the pocket ends at approximately the temples of the wearer. Notches allow the attaching edge of the headcover to be fastened within the pocket, and the rest of the headcover to be positioned either over (on the outside of) the head-encircling member or under (on the inside of) the head-encircling member. Patent number: 6067658Abstract: A free-size cap is disclosed. In the free-size cap of this invention, the gores of the crown are made of double-knit weft knitted fabrics having a weft directional elongation higher than 50%. The crown thus has a high ventilation effect, a high flexibility, a desired tightness, and allows a user to feel comfortable while wearing the cap. The free-size cap is also designed in that one reference-sized cap is commonly and freely usable by users having head sizes different from each other within a difference of about 12 cm. The free-size cap of this invention is further provided with a sweat band made of an elastic woven fabric having both a weft directional elongation higher than 65% and an elastic recovery higher than 95%, thus almost completely overcoming the problem of a row elastic recovery derived from the crown made of such weft knitted fabrics. Patent number: 6023788Abstract: A hat has a storage pocket on the inside of the hat which is located entirely within a dead space at the front portion of the hat extending from a location spaced above a hat band towards the crown of the hat. When a hat is worn, there will be a dead space inside the hat where the hat does not contact the wearer's head, which typically extends from a location just above the hat band to the crown of the hat, due to the difference in curvature between the wearer's head and the hat itself. By positioning a storage pocket in this area, unsightly bulges are avoided, as well as discomfort due to stored items pressing against the wearer's head.Type: GrantFiled: March 9, 1998Date of Patent: February 15, 2000Inventors: Timothy P. Patent number: 5740556Abstract: Headgear being an absorbing forehead perspiration collector and discharge device using primarily impermeable materials comprising a soft pliable absorbing body that features a fluid barrier with absorption apertures. The extremities of the absorbing body has a junction with a pair of attachable conduit assemblies being the means for fluid discharge. The pliable absorbing body member envelops an absorbent material and when this forehead section is secured to the wearer's head utilizing its unique attachment means it serves to block and absorb forehead perspiration flow. The plug ends of the conduit assemblies are adaptable to a support means for the benefit of dark shaded lens frames. When sweaty fluids reach excessive levels in the absorbing body they flow out through the attached conduits assemblies. The conduit assemblies also serve to secure the device to the wearers head which is effectively achieved with the aid of sliding elastic cord retainers.Type: GrantFiled: August 26, 1996Date of Patent: April 21, 1998Inventor: Robert L. Patent number: 5724678Abstract: A hat has a storage pocket on the inside of the hat which is located entirely within a dead space at the front portion of the hat extending from a location spaced above a hat band towards the crown of the hat. When a hat is worn, there will be a dead space inside the hat where the hat does not contact the wearer's head, which typically extends from a location just above the hat band to the crown of the hat, due to the difference in curvature between the wearer's head and the hat itself. By positioning a storage pocket in this area, unsightly bulges are avoided, as well as discomfort due to stored items pressing against the wearer's head.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 1995Date of Patent: March 10, 1998Inventors: Timothy P. McCallum, Frank C. Del Pizzo, Jr.

Patent number: 5724675Abstract: The cap of the invention has a crown portion comprised of a plurality of segments, a visor extending outwardly from the forward lower edge of the crown portion, and an earflap foldable with respect to the crown and extending rearwardly around the lower periphery of the crown from one side thereof to the other. An upstanding band is secured to the inside of the crown portion to the forward lower edge thereof. The band has a sufficient height to provide a compartment to receive an elongated piece of elastic or foam material. The flap portion is a part of the single piece of the elastic material comprising the rearward segment of the crown. The earflap is defined by a generally horizontally disposed fold line dividing the rearward segment into an upper portion and the earflap portion. The forward segment of the crown is comprised of an outer fabric layer, a central stiffener layer, and an inner foam layer forming a single laminated layer.Type: GrantFiled: September 17, 1996Date of Patent: March 10, 1998Assignee: Adcom of IowaInventors: Charles A. Patent number: 5704070Abstract: A cap for head wear is provided with a pocket on an interior surface of a crown portion of the cap. The pocket is defined by attaching pocket panels along the interior surface of a front portion of the crown wherein the pocket extends from a top of the crown toward a sweat band at the base of the crown. The opening into the pocket is adjacent to and spaced from the sweat band.Type: GrantFiled: August 14, 1996Date of Patent: January 6, 1998Inventor: Richard L. Stogner

Patent number: 5692380Abstract: An evaporative cooling device and method for removing heat energy from an object in thermally conductive contact with the device that is formed of a flexible and conformable container that is at least partially filled with a liquid absorbing material. When the device is hydrated and placed in thermally conductive contact with an object to be cooled, heat energy is transferred from the object to the device and the liquid that was absorbed by the material is evaporated. The amount of heat transferred is substantially equal to the latent heat of vaporization of the liquid that is evaporated. The use of the liquid absorbing material also allows the container to remain dry to the touch, even after it is hydrated.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 1994Date of Patent: December 2, 1997Assignee: Kool Tube, Inc.Inventors: Donna R.
