Abstract: This invention discloses a method, using pure niobium as a transient liquid reactive braze material, for fabrication of cellular or honeycomb structures, wire space-frames or other sparse builtup structures or discrete articles using Nitinol (near equiatomic titanium-nickel alloy) and related shape-memory and superelastic alloys. Nitinol shape memory alloys (SMAs), acquired in a form such as corrugated sheet, discrete tubes or wires, may be joined together using the newly discovered technique. Pure niobium when brought into contact with Nitinol at elevated temperature, liquefies at temperatures below the melting point and flows readily into capillary spaces between the elements to be joined, thus forming a strong joint. A series of diagrams of the interface at various stages of brazing is illustrated by FIG. 10.

Abstract: A gear pump having an inner rotor and an outer rotor is covered by a cylindrical outer casing and side casings. The cylindrical outer casing has two outer circumferential edges which are welded over the entire circumference thereof to the outer edges of the side casings, respectively. The outer casing has two angularly spaced recesses in its inner periphery for receiving slide seals therein. Welding is started at a welding start point which is 90 degrees spaced from the middle point between two recesses. During welding, welding energies are applied to the welding start point and the middle point between two recesses. Those energies tend to deform the casing into oval shapes that are 90 degrees out of phase from each other. Thus, these energies cancel each other, thereby preventing the casing from being deformed.

Abstract: A manufacturing method for an outer shell unit (10) provided with a cylindrical outer shell (3) housing a damping force generating mechanism and a knuckle bracket (7) mounted on the outer shell (3) to connect a knuckle. The knuckle bracket (7) is fixed by welding to the outer shell (3) after closing the bottom (31) of the outer shell (3) with a closing process. Consequently productivity is increased due to the fact that the number of processing operations for cutting an inlay and the number of operations for assembling the lower cap are reduced because the bottom is formed using a closing process. Furthermore productivity is increased since it is not necessary to seal the bottom by welding since the sealing characteristics of the bottom of the outer shell are ensured by the closing process.
