Abstract: An apparatus applies product and includes a pivotal platform solely supported through bushings formed of compressible material. The ground speed can be locked by stepping on a step pivoting a composite block to engage with an engagement of the transmission proportioner arm. A gate is opened utilizing a control lever pivotally mounted to a pivotably mounted control block to either engage or avoid a tang of an adjustment guide. A drive belt system includes a variator having first and second sheaves having variable effective diameters when their pivot pin is moved by pivoting a lever. A spray tip sprays a fan style spray at a small acute angle to the application area. A flip shield is pivoted about an axis parallel to the movement direction and includes a linear straight portion parallel to the axis in a redirection position.

  • Publication number: 20140131463
Abstract: Systems and methods for producing consistent spray patterns and for diminishing clogging experienced when applying spray adhesive from a spray gun are provided. One system includes an automatic non-atomizing spray valve operably coupled to a first and second flow valve. The spray and flow valves are electronically controlled using logic running on a processing unit. The logic is programmed to carry out a spray cycle that involves dispensing a first liquid from the spray valve (first phase) and then dispensing a second liquid through the same spray valve (second phase). Because the first liquid (e.g., water-based adhesive) has the potential to clog a nozzle of the spray valve, a short burst of the second liquid (e.g., cleaning fluid) is introduced to prevent the nozzle from clogging. The spray valve is configured as a pulse width modulated spray gun to further reduce clogging and to generate an evenly distributed spray pattern.

Abstract: Utilizes machine vision to thin fields, for example by selectively spraying plants with enough fertilizer to kill the plants, for example to maintain a minimum distance between plants or to enable remaining plants to grow in a pattern, for example two dimension diamond pattern. The use of fertilizer to kill plants has the benefit of fertilizing the field, i.e., the remaining plants not to be killed, at the same time. This unexpected result which occurs in the thinning and simultaneous fertilizing of a field is based the discovery that immature plants are more sensitive to fertilizer than mature plants. The system and method eliminates the need for harmful chemicals and mechanical thinners and may be retrofitted onto existing spray systems and platforms, thus eliminating herbicides and thinning machinery.

Abstract: A spray gun (1) has a fluid reservoir (11) with a removable liner (13) received in a container (12) having a detachable lid (15). The liner (13), which may be thermo/vacuum-formed from a planar material, has a shape that corresponds to and is a close fit within the interior of the container (12) and collapses as fluid is withdrawn from within the liner (13) during operation of the spray gun (1). The lid (15) has an outlet (16) connected to an inlet on the spray gun (1) for transfer of liquid from the reservoir (11) to the spray gun (1) and the container (12) has a vent (12A) in the base end for admitting air between the container (12) and the liner (13) as liquid is withdrawn from within the liner (13).

Abstract: Aerosol-free spray devices are provided. According to some embodiments, a spray device includes a piston operable within a piston chamber and coupled to a vacuum plunger operable within a vacuum chamber. A charger is operable to move the piston and the vacuum plunger in a first direction to generate a vacuum in the piston chamber and the vacuum chamber, thereby drawing liquid into the piston chamber. The vacuum in the vacuum chamber acts on the piston to pressurize the liquid in the piston chamber. A spray actuator is operable to open a spray valve, thereby causing the vacuum in the vacuum chamber to force the plunger and the piston to move opposite the first direction, and forcing the liquid in the piston chamber through a spray nozzle as a liquid spray. According to other embodiments, a spring replaces the vacuum chamber and vacuum plunger.

Abstract: A chemical mixture and a system and method using the chemical mixture to reduce damage to the buried lines and discharge components of a subsurface drip irrigation system from rodents that may otherwise chew through these components. The chemical mixture comprises a liquid base, a surfactant, a dye and an odor producing chemical, preferably methyl mercaptan. The chemical is selected so as to produce an odor which is sufficiently intolerable to rodents to negatively disrupt their life cycle, causing rodents to exit to the surface where they are likely to be eaten by predators and to interfere with their eating and mating activities. The system and method of injecting the chemical mixture into the distribution lines of the drip irrigation system so that the mixture flows into the soil with the irrigation water. The methyl mercaptan binds with the soil, creating an odor that disrupts the life cycle of rodents.
