Axially Movable Outlet Part Patents (Class 239/456)
  • Patent number: 5853129
Abstract: A spray nozzle is disclosed including a valve body with a water inlet and outlet and a helical spray vane at the valve body outlet. A tapered plug carried by the valve stem, corresponding in shape to that of the interior of the helical spray vane, moves with the valve stem to decrease the area of the outlet and thereby reduce the discharge flow rate into the helical spray vane. At the same time, the tapered plug moves into the interior of the helical spray vane, causing a reduction in size of a passage formed between the tapered plug and the interior of the helical spray vane. This reduced passage size serves to maintain the velocity of the fluid as it is directed to the active surface of the helical spray vane, thereby substantially maintaining the size of particles produced by the helical spray vane.

  • Patent number: 5823161
Abstract: A fuel injection device for internal combustion engines, having a high-pressure fuel pump, which pumps fuel from a low-pressure chamber via a feed line into a high-pressure collection chamber that communicates via high-pressure lines with the individual injection valves that protrude into the combustion chamber of the engine to be supplied. In order for this system to make variable injection cross sections at the injection valves possible, these injection valves are embodied as injection valves with an outward-opening valve member, via whose controllable opening stroke motion in the direction of the combustion chamber, a variable injection cross section can be adjusted at the injection valve.

  • Patent number: 5215254
Abstract: A self-cleaning spray nozzle in which a standard fitting serves as the nozzle body. A unitary valve assembly is inserted partially into the fitting and secured to it. The valve assembly includes a secured valve seat biased by a spring into a spraying head so that the valve seat and spraying head form a seal. The spraying head is designed so that it does not form a complete seal with the valve seat, the gap in the seal defining a metering orifice so that under normal fluid pressures, fluid will spray out of the orifice in a predetermined pattern. When a force sufficient to overcome the spring bias is applied to the spraying head, the spraying head separates from the valve seat breaking the seal and allowing the fluid to flush the outlet. The force can either be applied manually, or caused by an increase in fluid pressure. An optional deflection collar may be snapped onto the nozzle for influencing the direction of the spray.

  • Patent number: 4909445
Abstract: A spray desuperheater maintaining a desired homogeneous spray pattern throughout the full range of operation, including relatively low rates of flow. Water flows to a spray orifice through a variable-geometry control which constricts at flow rates below the minimum flow required to maintain pressure control across the spray nozzle. This constricted flow increases the velocity of the water tangentially entering a spin chamber leading to the spray nozzle. The increased velocity of water at the lower rates of flow, combined with the spin imparted to the water, maintains the desired homogeneous spray pattern at the lower flow rates. The variable geometry control is fully open at flow rates sufficient to sustain pressure control at the spray nozzle, and a fixed-geometry control adjusts a higher range of flow rates.

  • Patent number: 4619403
Abstract: A pistol grip spray gun for the incremental control of sprayed liquids. The gun has a handle, an actuating member movable with respect to the handle in the manner of a trigger, and a barrel with an outlet for delivering a spray of the liquid. The actuating member is movable from a closed position thereof, corresponding to a closed condition of the nozzle, through a range of open positions with differing spray characteristics. A retention system is provided for retaining the actuating member in a selected position in the range of open positions. A release button is employed for releasing the retention system to permit the actuating member to return to or toward its closed position. In this manner, the spray characteristics of the gun can be varied, and retained in any chosen characteristic, by control of the trigger without the necessity of a separate adjustment of the nozzle.

  • Patent number: 4569485
Abstract: A variable precipitation rate mist emitter (10) is disclosed. The emitter includes an emitter head (14) having an inlet opening (19), an outlet opening (26), a deflector disc (28) spaced from the opening for redirecting the water flowing from the outlet opening, and a projection (42) extending from the deflector disc toward the outlet. The projection has a tapered exterior surface with its smallest dimension adjacent the outlet opening and its largest dimension adjacent the deflector disc. A mechanism (30, 54, 56) for adjusting the position of the projection relative to the outlet opening locates a preselected and variable portion of the projection in the outlet opening whereby the size of the opening and the precipitation rate of the emitter are adjustable.

Abstract: A vehicle for deicing aircraft comprises an undercarriage (1) having a lifting device (4,5,6,7) carrying a closed operation cabin (3). The vehicle includes a spray device for applying spray fluid to the aircraft, and this spray device comprises a pump and a connected spray nozzle. To avoid frequent adjustments of the position of the carriage and to allow spray operations close to the areas to be sprayed, the spray nozzle is supported on a longitudinally adjustable lightweight boom (20) carried by the cabin (3). The cabin (3) is further pivotally supported by a turntable construction (15,16) relative to the carriage (1). The nozzle is also connected to remote control devices in the cabin (3) for pivotal movement of the nozzle about two axes extending perpendicular to each other. The two pivot axes are appropriately intersecting in a point coinciding with the direction of the jet from the nozzle.

  • Patent number: 4552490
Abstract: A control valve assembly for controlling particulate solids feed upward into a fluidized bed reactor, utilizing a purged valve seat mating with a poppet head and valve stem having a vented clearance space. The valve seat surface and a stem clearance space are each purged by a clean externally supplied gas, the solids flair in an elbow-shaped passageway are fluidized by air supplied through booster nozzles, and the valve stem is operated by a pneumatic actuator. A particulate solids material such as coal is transferred by a screw conveyor through a horizontal conduit, and then fed through the elbow-shaped passageway and the poppet valve seat upwardly into the reactor fluidized bed.

  • Patent number: 4545221
Abstract: An actuating mechanism for varying the Venturi gap of a jet dyeing machine allows adjustment of the gap between a zero spacing (for easy centering) and a self-cleaning, fully open position, adjustment being provided without interrupting production. As is conventional, a textile material passing pipe is reciprocal within an outlet pipe, with an end of the textile material passing pipe forming a Venturi with a circumferential lip formed on the interior of the outlet pipe. A cam and follower mechanism is mounted exteriorly of the textile material-passing pipe between it and the outlet pipe, with a cam shaft extending through the outlet pipe wall to an exterior position. Power means, which may be responsive to sensors for sensing fabric flow and liquid flow, effect rotation of the cam shaft to effect reciprocation of the textile material-passing pipe, and thus adjustment of the Venturi gap.

  • Patent number: 4465459
Abstract: A burner is disclosed for alternatively burning coal dust or oil. An annular housing includes a blower at one end thereof for directing a rotating air stream through the housing. A chamber located downstream from the blower has a plurality of outlet pipes extending downstream therefrom in an annular configuration about an atomizing nozzle and an eddy plate. An adjustable burner head is mounted on the end of each of the outlet pipes, the burner heads being arranged for optimum mixture of coal dust and air, fed from the chamber through the outlet pipes to the burner heads, with the rotating air stream passing about and through a hole in the eddy plate to insure optimum combustion. An oil ignition auxiliary burner having a nozzle between the eddy plate and the outlet end of the chamber serves to ignite the coal dust and air mixture. An atomizing nozzle for feeding atomized oil into the burner is provided as an alternative fuel source.
