  • Patent number: 11946830
Abstract: The system and method for wireless water leak detection provides for manual prevention of external action, such as an external alarm and/or valve shut-off, if a leak sensor can be reached by a respondent within a pre-set time threshold. Upon detection of a leak by a leak sensor, a local alarm, such as an audible alarm or the like, is initiated. Additionally, at the time of detection, a first time is recorded. A first alarm signal is transmitted from the leak sensor to a base station. The first alarm signal includes data representative of the recorded first time. If manual input is not received by the leak sensor within a pre-set time threshold measured from the first time, then the base station transmits a second alarm signal to at least one external device, and may further wirelessly transmit a shut-off signal to a valve controller for closing an associated valve.

Abstract: Compact reeds maximize flexural length by efficiently utilizing available space surrounding the port. Maximum length arms are disposed at the perimeter of the housing inlet port. Stresses at the ends of the arms are mitigated by utilizing compound radius transitions. The transitions are constructed by two or more arcs of different radii, which produce lower stresses at such junctures than if single radius transitions were used. The arms are disposed close to the reed sealing surface edge to orient the flow streamlines to be aligned with the arm width, thereby minimizing frontal drag area. The reduced frontal area reduces drag forces and related stresses on the arms, and reduces the overall flow related pressure drop across the reed. Replacing a single hole port, a port comprised of multiple passages of varying size control the velocity exiting the passages. The velocity gradient across the port provides further capability to orient the said streamlines to reduce said drag.

Abstract: Valve assemblies optionally with inflatable bodies for modulating fluid expulsion from an inflatable body, without active user participation. Valve assemblies include, in separate components or in integrated form, a vent body defining an external orifice, an internal orifice in fluid communication with the external orifice, and an inflatable body interface. Extending from the internal orifice is a collapsible, hollow elongate member defining longitudinal and lateral axes. Sealing closure of the elongate member, which is preferably constructed from a resilient material, results from application of generally opposing mechanical forces across a lateral surface of the elongate member. Compression localizing members may be used proximate to the elongate member to increase closure performance. In addition, performance parameters can be varied by modifying the physical characteristics of the compression members (height, upper surface area, lower surface area, composition, density, use of localizing ridges, etc.

Abstract: A valve assembly comprises a rotatable valve, an electrically operated actuator, and an overstroke device. The actuator comprises a component configured to move in a direction to an actuator position so as to cause corresponding rotation of the valve to a valve position in response to electrical operation of the actuator. The overstroke device is configured to enable the component to move in the direction beyond the actuator position to an overstroke position while the valve remains in the valve position in response to electrical operation of the actuator.

Abstract: An actuator for selectively moving a part relative to another part includes a shape memory wire, which contracts when heated. One portion of the shape memory wire is fixed to a first body, and another portion of the shape memory wire is coupled to a second body, which is movable relative to the first body. When heated the shape memory wire contracts and moves the second body in a direction of travel from a first position relative to the first body toward a second position. The actuator further includes a magnetic field for generating a magnetic force on the second body. The magnetic force acts on and moves the second body in the direction of travel to the second position after the shape memory wire initially contracts, and further decouples the second body from the shape memory wire when applying the magnetic force to the second body to thereby unload the load on the shape memory wire when the second body is moved to the second position.

Abstract: A rainwater collection and diverging system includes a housing that has a bottom wall and a perimeter wall. A door is positioned in the bottom wall. A hinge hingedly couples the door to the bottom wall and a biasing member is attached to the door and biases the door in a closed position. Fluid in the housing may flow outwardly through the bottom wall when a biasing action of the biasing member is overcome and the door is moved to an open position. An outlet is fluidly coupled to the housing. A downspout has a bottom end extending into the housing. A conduit is fluidly coupled to and extends between a free end of the outlet and a fluid receptacle. Water flowing down the downspout is directed into the conduit until a force of the water flowing down the downspout overcomes the biasing action and opens the door.

Abstract: An outflow valve includes a valve closure mechanism that automatically closes the outflow valve in the unlikely event the outflow valve actuator becomes inoperable. The valve closure mechanism includes a pulley, a load plate, a cable, and a spring. The pulley is coupled to a valve element is the outflow valve and is configured to eccentrically rotate therewith. The cable has a first end coupled to the pulley, and a second end coupled to the load plate. The spring is disposed between the valve and the load plate and surrounds a portion of the cable. The spring is configured to supply a bias force, via the load plate and the cable, to the pulley that biases the valve element toward the closed position.

Abstract: A valve construction for use with a holding or waste removal tank of a vehicle is provided and includes a gate valve having a valve closure member, and at least one panel having an opening extending from an inside surface to an outside surface connected to the vehicle. Also provided is an axially moveable cable with a first end connected to the gate valve to impart movement to the valve closure member and a second end having a terminus, and a first and second means for securing the second end to the panel. The first means is radially contractible and expandable for penetrating the opening by contracting as it is moved to penetrate through the inside surface of the panel and expanding as it is moved to exit the opening through the outside surface of the panel whereupon it abuts the outside surface. The second means adapts to tightly abut the inside surface of the panel to cooperate with the first means to enable the secure mounting of the second end of the cable to the panel.

  • Patent number: 7159614
Abstract: An improved assembly for use in an in-line starter valve. A flexible material system in the form of a flexible belt is used to translate motion from a manually operable wrench shaft to a piston rod in order to render an in-line starter valve to a closed, partially opened, or an extreme opened position. When the wrench shaft is manually rotated, tension is imparted on the flexible band which, in turn, translates tension to a piston rod which then travels longitudinally resulting in the opening or closing of the in-line starter valve. An index mark on a handle of the wrench shaft indicates the closed, partially opened, or extreme opened position of the in-line starter valve. The use of the flexible belt affords greater durability, less weight, and less costly production than the prior art assemblies.

  • Patent number: 7040600
Abstract: A valve, e.g. of an aircraft drinking water system, has a rotatable adjusting shaft to adjust the valve between its open end position and its closed end position. A mechanism for operating the adjusting shaft includes a push-pull cable connected to a toothed rack that engages a toothed gear element secured to the adjusting shaft. The mechanism converts the push-pull linear motion of the cable to a reciprocating rotational motion of the adjusting shaft. End sections of the rack and the gear element have no gear teeth, so the rack automatically disengages from the gear element once the end position of the valve is reached. The disengaged rack can slide beyond the stopped end position of the gear element, and re-engages with the gear element once it slides back into the operating range. The valve cannot be forced beyond its end positions, despite excessive input motion of the cable.
