  • Patent number: 4425823
Abstract: One or more remotely disposed valves may be opened or closed by a control handwheel by means of rotatable flexible shafting and mechanism associated therewith which may reduce the torque required to rotate the hand wheel and permitting much lighter weight and less costly flexible shafting to be employed. The associated mechanism comprises pulley-belt arrangements and/or gearing structures at each valve to be opened or closed as well as an optional pulley-belt arrangement cooperating with the handwheel. A torque limiting clutch device may readily be incorporated into the system for providing necessary slippage to the valve stems in the event one or more of the remotely disposed valves reaches the end of its travel prior to the remaining valves in the system.

  • Patent number: 4285499
Abstract: A cam actuated valve (10) is disclosed having a butterfly-type valve member (52) rotatably mounted to a crank member (40) extending into a fluid passageway (23) defined by the valve housing. A rectangular bracket (12) attached to one side of the valve housing has parallel edges (66, 68) forming guide surfaces which are slidably received in parallel grooves (62, 64) molded into an actuator member (14). The outer end of the crank member extends through an elongated slot formed in the actuator member thereby defining a cam-cam follower arrangement which transfers the linear movement of the actuator member to rotation of the crank member. The configuration of the cam slot and its position relative to crank member follower end provides a mechanical advantage enabling a relatively low input force exerted on the actuator member to operate the valve.

  • Patent number: 4266573
Abstract: A system is disclosed for providing an interconnection between two needle valves such that movement of either needle valve, in opening or closing thereof, is affected or limited by movement of the other valve. The invention is particularly suited to an anesthesia machine wherein separate supplies of oxygen (O.sub.2) and nitrous oxide (N.sub.2 O) are fed to individual needle valves which are then individually adjusted to provide a desired mixture of N.sub.2 O and O.sub.2 for administration to a patient to anesthetize the same. The system herein disclosed interconnects the individual needle valves such that the O.sub.2 needle valve may be opened fully without restriction, however, when the N.sub.2 O valve is open, the interconnection provides that closing of the O.sub.2 valve will, at a predetermined point, also correspondingly close the N.sub.2 O valve, thus preventing the percentage of N.sub.2 O in the mixed gas from raising above a set value, i.e.

  • Patent number: 4245660
Abstract: A dual valve actuator mechanism for a fire extinguisher bottle in a milit vehicle. The mechanism includes an electrical trigger system for operating the valve automatically in response to energization of an electronic optical fire sensor; alternately the electrical trigger system can be operated by closure of a manual switch from within the vehicle interior. A second cable system is provided to operate the valve manually from a point external to the vehicle, as when the vehicle is unoccupied at onset of the flame or when the soldiers are forced to exit the vehicle to avoid inhalation of fumes or vapors. Unfortunately the valve actuation stroke is very small, on the order of two-tenth inch or less. The present invention relates to a lost-motion connection in the cable for lengthening the stroke necessary to operate the valve; this prevents inadvertant valve actuation due to vehicle vibrations or installation tolerances.

  • Patent number: 4241748
Abstract: A pair of butterfly smoke/fire dampers are mounted on a single frame. Each damper includes a pair of blades which can be locked in the open position and which, when released, rotate about a hinge to the closed position. The frame has a flange around the inner periphery thereof which engages the edges of the blades in the closed position. Each pair of blades are moved to the open position by an operator cable which extends through a first ferrule in the frame, through a second ferrule in one of the blades and thereafter across the blades to a point of attachment complementally located on the opposing blade. The frame ferrule is offset from the blade ferrule whereby withdrawing the cable causes both blades to be drawn toward each other. The blades can be held in the open position by maintaining tension on the operator cable or by a fusible link or other heat responsive latching mechanisms.

Flexible means are coupled between the push rod assemblies of the motors and spaced apart points on the rotor such that when one of the motors is actuated, the respective one of the push rod assemblies is moved linearly in a direction to transmit torque to the rotor, thus causing the rotor to rotate about its axis in one direction and manipulate the valve member to one of open and closed positions, and when the other of the motors is actuated, the other of the push rod assemblies is moved linearly in an opposing direction to transmit torque to the rotor whereby the rotor is rotated about its axis in an opposite direction to manipulate the valve to the other of open and closed positions.
