Abstract: A panel-sealing and securing system for securing a panel to a mullion coupled with weather seal pressure gaskets for sealing exterior joints under high wind velocity. The mullion is formed in one piece or in two halves of a split mullion which occurs at the joint between multiple pre-fabricated units of a unitized grid system. The mullion has a concealed front corner cavity adjacent to panel for installing the panel-sealing and securing system. For weather sealing, elastic pressure gaskets and expansion joints comprising panel gasket seals at a joint between the panel and the mullion and mullion gasket seals at a joint between the two halves of split mullion where a unitized split mullion system is used. To securing the panel to the mullion and allow for thermal expansion movement of the panel, two segments formed in one piece or in two hinge connected pieces include a gasket holder segment and a spacer plate segment.

Abstract: Generally speaking, in accordance with the invention, a putty is provided that can include many or all of the handling characteristics of a traditional plumber's putty, but with reduced staining qualities. Such putty can facilitate substantially stain free installations. Putties in accordance with the invention can contain combinations of polymers or oligomers, solvents, fillers and optional rubbery materials. A composition according to the invention is preferably sufficiently stain-free to be used on porous stone, such as marble and granite, without damaging the appearance of the stone. This is achieved by eliminating oil completely, or at least substantially, or restricting their ability to cause stains sufficiently. Because compositions of the invention can be made to be free of oils, they can also have the effect of eliminating the greasy feeling to the hands, which can occur when handling traditional putty.

Abstract: In a gas turbine including a nozzle retaining ring having a first annular axially facing sealing surface and a shroud segment having an axial registering second surface. To minimize or prevent leakage flow between the retaining ring and shroud segments, a generally U-shaped seal having reversely folded U-shaped marginal portions is received in a cavity formed in the second surface. At operating conditions, the marginal portions seal against the base of the cavity and the first surface of the retaining ring to prevent leakage flow past the retaining ring/shroud segment interface. To install the seal, the seal body is first compressed and maintained in a compressed state by applying one or more wraps about the seal body and an epoxy is used to secure the seal when compressed in the cavity. At operating temperatures, the retention means releases the seal to engage marginal portions against opposite sealing surfaces of the shroud segments and retaining ring.

Abstract: A seal arrangement is used for a folding roof of a hardtop vehicle, which has a front roof part, a rear roof part and a frame. The rear roof part can be moved from a closed position into a storage position inside a rear luggage space. The frame has a rear window and is pivotable in relation to the lateral roof pillars. The seal arrangement includes a sealing strip at least partially disposed in a region adjacent to a front end of the rear window, and an additional seal extending under the rear window and from the region of the pivoting axis to a rear edge of the rear window. The sealing strip extends under the front roof part and the lateral roof pillars and into a region of a pivoting axis of the rear window. The sealing strip includes a main seal having a surface, a comfort seal, and a channel disposed between the main seal and comfort seal.

  • Patent number: 6503051
Abstract: A seal is provided between a pair of members by a flexible seal element fixed to one member and having a turned edge. The seal element overlies a contact surface of the other member to effect the seal, the seal element spanning a gap between the members and being pressed into the contact surface by a high pressure region on the same side of the gap as the sealing element. In other forms, a second sealing element is employed in conjunction with a spline seal forming a tortuous sealing path between the members.

  • Patent number: 6500390
Abstract: A microplate assembly comprising a multi-well microplate, a plurality of vent caps and a porous vent film. The microplate includes a frame that houses a plurality of open wells in a rectangular array. Vent caps mount on the microplate to seal and vent the wells. When the vent caps are coupled to the wells, an interior volume is formed in each well. The wells function as a vessel for liquid samples that occupy predetermined spaces within the interior volumes. Each liquid sample remains within its predetermined space for all orientations of the microplate assembly. The vent cap comprises an array of well inserts. Each well insert comprises a sealing plug and a vent tube. A flexible perforated web interconnects the well inserts to each other. The vent tubes are fixed to the sealing plugs and terminate in a vent. A barrier formed from a plurality of nested flaps resiliently mounts on the vent tube to partially cover the vent and help inhibit the evaporation and loss of the liquid samples.

  • Patent number: 6497413
Abstract: For manufacturing a seal between two machine parts (10, 11) which together enclose a space (14) in which, at least at times, high pressure and/or high temperature prevail, sealing means which contain a curable composition (30) are arranged between the two machine parts (10, 11). The curable composition (30) is applied directly onto one or both machine parts (10, 11) in liquid form at least in the area which does not directly adjoin the space (14) in which, at least at times, high temperature and/or high pressure prevails. The two machine parts are built in before the curing of composition (30). A sealing ring can be inserted between the two machine parts (10, 11) directly around the edge of the high pressure and high temperature space (14) or that edge can be slightly raised and the curable composition (30) can be used for sealing outside this area.

Abstract: Methods and devices are provided for mechanically sealing the reservoirs of microchip devices to prevent leakage from or between any of the reservoirs. In one embodiment, the method includes sandwiching a microchip device and a gasket material covering the reservoir openings between a front sealing frame and a backplate, such that the gasket material is compressed against the back side of the microchip device by the back plate. The front sealing frame is secured to the back sealing plate using fasteners or welding. The gasket material is preferably a flexible polymeric sheet, which is biocompatible and compatible with the reservoir contents. In another embodiment, a composite backplate is used in place of the back sealing plate and separate gasket material. The composite backplate can include a substrate having sealing plugs defined thereon. The composite backplate also can be designed to hold the drug, thereby combining the assembly steps of reservoir filling and sealing.
